A counter to your ambush rant at the end. Thanes have a skill that increases ambush defense by 10, and runesmiths have one that increases ambush defense by 20. Every Dwarf lord except Grombrindal has the ability to get 30 ambush defense as well. Combined with stances (underway and encamp) some traits, plus the tech it's almost impossible to ambush a dwarf army with leveled up heroes. I didn't see the skill tree on all 5 of his thanes, but I'd imagine he has at least 50% ambush defense chance in normal army stance even skipping over the tech.
Yeah, generally speaking while you can get a ton of ambush success chance as skaven, dwarves have a lot of ambush defense chance. But if an ambush did happen, it would be a potential problem, as ambush success chance and then ambush defense chance directly fight each other. So if both are at 100%, then the ambush success chance depends on the terrain on map. Otherwise it'd depend on who's got more surplus on their chance. At least based on what I'm currently aware of. But even a 9.5 is not really gonna see any problems in the campaign.
"Mighty Grombrindal, we have soundly crushed the treacherous Elgi!" "Excellent! Any losses?" "Aye, two of our irondrakes have perished." "WHAT!? Ugh, that's going in the book!"
this is a pretty similar map to when we last saw an irondrake doomstack way back when, what a coincidence loved watching the dragons get nuked out of the sky back then
@@mackenzieobrien7579 They just got reworked in ToD. Back when the WH2 version was made, the master engineers range improvement could stack so they ended up with 200 range and just insta deleted everything. All of the range improvement skills were changed shortly after to not stack with themselves.
Impressive early game doom stack. To make one exactly like this it will take 45 turns to get the grudge settlers, but you could make a similar one probably by turn 30.
Nah, faced a couple armies with lots of air units, they get completely wiped easily by the torpedoes, in any case I had much more trouble with skaven armies due to their magic and artillery, also their crap infantry that simply have too many units to wipe out fast enough
I actually got ambushed by 4 vampires doomstack and still win with this army. You just need to split like you’re playing Terran in StarCraft and use the unit that’s not pinned to melt vampires units blobbing around some of your units. My version have a lot more grudge settler irondrakes tho. The thing about having only 28 units is that enemies infantry will almost always form a blob when engaging in melee with irondrakes and unlike weapons team, irondrakes have a lot of armor and melee defense they can actually hold the lines very long. The damage output is also very high even when half your army is pinned and you are still able to wipe the first army and setup before second army comes in.
I'd like to see a series on crap stacks, like the better ones how practical and powerful they are, i guess I'm not the only one that wants to see this and i hope you could make this happen
Didn't see it mentioned in the comments but Thanes have a skill that gives 10% ambush defence to the hero's army, so the ambush weakness of this army is heavily reduced
Dwarves just really be eating good with army variety after ToD. This is also the third iteration of a trollhammer doomstack, I can't think of any other unit that has even had two show up on this channel.
The Dawi said enough is enough with the short jokes and now their anger erupts across the battlefield. Every single one of their doomstacks seem to do very, very good.
Grudge Settler fire weakness debuff + Irondrake Trollhammers + large Tree unit enemy = 11/10 , but that's just one of the wood loving avelorn units , the rest are just pointy ears.
Damn. I have always overlooked the troll hammers thinking they filled the role of anti large specialist and another gunner that needed direct line of sight. Had no idea they could delete regular infantry and arc their shots like bows
Really enjoying these doomstack videos. Data nerd here. Is there a possibility you can make like a spreadsheet of the top 10 doomstacks based on your rating? Would be really fun data wise to see if there is a pattern of some sorts.
I thought the ranged damage buff on engineers for the whole army stacks, so if he added at least one more engineer you could pump up those damage numbers even higher.
Torpedoes are big and heavy objects, but somehow dwarfs can carry already a lot of them casually. Then there are a bunch of thanes that somehow enable dwarfs to carry three times more. Somehow people question the strength of dwarfs 😂
Lore wise, dwarves are unbelievably strong. The gotrek and felix novels that feature other dwarves shows this, even side character dwarves are terrifying.
And then imagine how much ammo an engineer type of support can carry, if they can replenish dreadquake mortars, steam tanks, queen bess and other huge caliber from being on-foot.
Making this army with grapeshot cannons instead of grudge settlers also instead of thanes putting more trollhammers and couple more engies actually makes it much more powerful. You need to start as malakai then get grombrindal tho, so it takes abit longer to pull off
Feel like this army would get overwhelmed by a lot of cavalry, sometimes warzag build savage orc cavalry armies that might give this army a run for its money.
How do you move as formation without grouping? Also that rotate and stuff. Id love a video on that. Makes checkerboards and the like a lot cooler to use in my opinion.
@@12SickOne34 I just got this notification. Thanks! I forgot i even asked so seeing this was a boost to my day. Im doin a tomb kings campaign rn and will make heavy use of this.
Hey, I was wondering if and when you're moving your units you can cite the keybinds / methods you use to position your army. I spend a bit of my time selecting and positioning single unit groups and would love a quick explanation! Ty
Or a Chaos Knights of Slaanesh Lances (80 charge bonus now) + Fiends (16 models + Strider now) , fiends to tie up enemy, knights to +160 charge bonus flank. (not tested , just 5.1 relevant unit changes), would test in campaign, but vassal income are currently bugged so paused my nkari run. (love Strider addition on all the units though, makes running through high elf forests and hills a lot less annoying and taxing on fatigue/speed)
I run a similar army but I swap 1 or 2 thanes for runesmiths to increase damage 10% and 10 armor also reduce enemy missile resist 20% you also give yourself an extra 20 magic resist for any random spell they throw at you.
wouldn't it have been better to trade some of the thanes for more engineers? you'd have less line holding power but you'd still have plenty of ammunition and more killing power and speed
