Escaping the Trouble We Buried Ourselves In
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 лют 2024
- Well, the Department of Transportation paid us a visit recently....... seems we let our housekeeping go just a little too long. The truck traffic leaving the landfill has carried with it quite a bit of mud and dirt! Unfortunately its going out onto the roadway and we kind of covered up some of the lines on the road. We bough a new CAT attachment for our 299 skid steer to help with the issue. This broom attachment is pretty handy at sweeping up dirt off the roadway!

Put in a rinse pit. Our local gravel pit has an area where they pump clean water into a pit and the trucks drive in the pit and get the dirt rinsed off before they hit the scales. Keeps dirt off the scales and keeps dirt/dust off the road. The pit is about 1 foot deep about 20 yards long. Drivers just drive through nice and slow and rinse off the tires,,, the water is being replaced all the time,,, has sprayers spraying the sides of tires. Once its installed, I would think it would be well worth the investment.
Thanks!
In the UK they are called wheel or truck washers
I'm a little late to the party here but in the UK most quarry and landfill operations use a wheel wash.
Similar to a wash pit but also has high pressure jets aimed at the wheels.
It switches on when a truck approaches and recycles the water.
I appreciate it's a cost but less hassle than dealing with the DoT 👍
Might have to install one eventually. Thanks for watching!!
I’d be looking for a regular street sweeper. Then you could run the road the length of your frontage and really be a good neighbor. Don’t forget the other side of the street too.
That would be cool!
Love the water feature from the old cable shovel. Had noticed that in previous videos and assumed it was a family heirloom. Nice that you take pride in your property and keep it looking good.
We trying, thanks for watching!!
Hit the wrong button so half a comment. When you talked calm and under control when talking to the plant thief lady. It showed what a truly nice person you are.when you said you didn’t want her on your property. You were still nice and in control 👍
I try!
When i still worked at Justice Excavating a local company from where live. Whenever we get rain we'd spread stone at the entrance of the job site and drive back and forth a few times in our work trucks to clean the tires off
Great idea, we’re gonna do some renovations soon. Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment!
That should keep the DOT off your tail. It looks a lot better. Great job guys.
It does!
I used to haul household garbage to a land fill in Mississippi they had to wash our tires off before we left the gate on muddy days it was awesome to see the mountain grow we called it magic mountain from the the hole was lined and Sand put in the bottom to filter the liquid out .
That’s interesting! Thank you for watching
Great video! It shows that you take care of your property. I would be sneezing like crazy. Thank you for sharing! 👍 😊
I’m still sneezing, thanks for watching!!!
i miss running the CAT 259D3 i use to run at work it was a little beast
They tough!
Most similar companies over here have a wheel wash or a sunken lane filled with water and steel grilles they have to drive over. Thank you for making these videos.
Yes, we are trying to avoid that due to space and cost
Bedt thing to use when it's dried dirt like that is a street sweeper vac like they use on city strrets and parking lots.
That would be a cool piece of equipment to have!
Sure, if you have an extra half a million bucks just lying around lol
Another great video. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it, I appreciate ya!
Great job, enjoyed the ride with you, many thanks 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it, and appreciate you commenting!
iv never used one of these before but can really see how much better it sweep in reverse. I'm guessing its the rotating in from the bottom and out on top. go in reverse used the broom to push it and pile with while tossing it in the bucket. going forward is just running it over and tossing it in front. so to save you on a new broom only sweep in reverse and lift it too drive to the start of your pull.
Thanks!!
Our landfill has a water flush system that we drive over and it flushes off the tires. It is a grate and the water is recycled and there is a pit that catches the sediment. Roads are always spotless.
We may eventually have to go that route, thanks for commenting!
When I did gas work we mounted a water tank on the roof with a pump and spray bar on the back to keep the dust down. We always backed up too. Worked out great
cool idea
I work at Landfill also I must say your best Boss I ever seen. And I had bout 6 or more.
Hey thanks buddy, I appreciate that!
Cleaned up miles and miles of roads with one of those on an asphalt mill crew. We always said sweep forward, erase reverse. Arms down, tilt forward a little bit. Running the broom in reverse helps when dumping. Love the channel man, glad dirt perfect visited you!
Great tips, thank you very much & I sure appreciate you watching!!
That's beginning to look a whole lot nicer! Nice work to you and your crew!
Thanks 👍
you should install a amber caution light on that skid steer ,,, as your working along a road way ,DOT could use that as a reason too add to your aggravations in complying with them
Great idea
Mr Digg just an idea put in a tire wash before and after the scale that should alleviate the amount of tracking rock quarries use this because the faced the same exact issues
Trying to avoid that if possible
Mr digg thank you for another video . let me give you a piece of advice on these sweepers . drive backwards instead of forwards and see youre sweeping quality and speed improve about 200% .
Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it next time!
Something that I do when I’m using the broom when I spins it forward when I dumping
Good info, thanks!
Really nice operation. And maintenance on the facility or equipment never stops. I have a new found respect for you Ryan. You sure have a full plate and evidently a good set of managers and employees to help you keep it all together. Thanks for posting.
If I didnt have good folks running the place, it wouldnt exist. Thanks so much for watching & commenting!
Freddy Lauwers has the right idea---you need an extra long tracking pad and from my experience---in site and heavy construction for over 50yrs----calcium chloride( the type that comes in a flake form) also worked very well with dust control---the sweeping also should be done everyday----I'm surprised that the state has not come down on you for the dust!!!
Cool idea, thanks for sharing
Make the anti-tracking extra long and wider----also I had good luck using wood chips also---but, calcium worked the best----DOT is tough---Good Luck!!!!!@@TheRealMrDigg
Well you just gave me my answer being cat here don't have a 299D in stock an I am buying a new track loader this spring an my only dealer options are cat 299d bobcat t770 or the n50 wacker newson all in the 97 to 100hp. I wondered how the view out the back is as I can't turn my head a lot. The other 2 have a wide open view all around. I leaning more an more to the wacker
Glad this video helped a little, thanks for watching & good luck!
Just a thought, have you considered a wheel wash so every vehicle on the way out regardless has to go through the wheel wash, this would result in a clean road and it would get rid of the DoT giving you a hard time.
Regards from UK.
Trying to avoid a wheel wash due to space and expense
I was in the mining business for over 30 years, so I can relate to your tracked mud situation. It’s a continual mess to stay on top of. Have you considered a wheel wash pit prior to your outbound truck scales? Take care
Trying to avoid installing one if possible
Mr. Digg you could put a wheel wash you drive though.
Trying to avoid that, they expensive!
You mentioned that the recycled concrete was being used by loggers to keep mud off the roads. Maybe you need some of that for your entry.
Yes, we are gonna try that. It just gets plugged with mud during rainy season so quickly
Some of the pits we have here in Texas have a small v shaped water pit you drive through to clean tires before you get on the roadway
Trying to avoid having to install them.
now that's the way it should be done I think you did a great job.
you may won't to look into getting a tire washer before the scale and the exit
Trying to avoid that because they aint cheap
Thank you for another great video. Stay safe out there. Cheers
Thanks, you too!
We spread crushed concrete where our trucks dump at sample and son and on any of our roads the trucks drive on. No problems tracking mud anywhere.
We’ve just got so much Mud everywhere out here!
@@TheRealMrDigg you really should try the crush concrete would be surprised on how good it does
Time for the TREX to go to the auction.
Yup!
New subscriber after seeing you on Dirt Perfect channel.
Looks like a well organised operation you have there...😊👍
Im guessing your Aaron is very similar to DP's Aaron....a valued right hand man, and virtually indispensable - not many could run that fabulous old grader as well as that nowadays !😊👍
Really looking forward to catching up on some of your previous videos, especially the steam shovel water feature....that looks amazing!
Definitely my sort of channel and is now on my go to viewing list. So glad Dirt Perfect was able to point me in your direction...😊😊
Thanks for subscribing! Aaron & all the other folks are who keep this place running for sure. We’ve got amazing people, couldn’t do it without them!
Here in Indiana, some operations have a recycling drive over wash station that the trucks drive through that wash off any debris from the tires.
Trying to avoid that due to space and cost, thanks for the suggestion though!
@@TheRealMrDigg understand I just subscribed. I started in 1976 on John Deere 350B track loader w/4in 1 bucket, pulled on a tri axle pulled with 1963 B series Mack dump truck with twin sticks.
@@jamesd.hummell4391thanks for all that you have done!
God bless you!
Same to you!
up here in new Jersey they have a sweeping company that sweeps the road all day to keep the town off their butt
Wish they had something like that around here!
@@TheRealMrDigg because what you are say most places like that have the same problem up here dot get on them it the town does
Maybe hire your son to be in charge of sand control if he is 16 give him a summer job.
Excellent idea!!!
Doing state or country job on road Country owns 15 feet from center of road state is 30 feet
Owning and maintaining are 2 different things! Thanks for watching
Surprised they haven’t made you install a truck wheel wash bridge in
Not yet
I was just thinking if you could kind of grade the road before you swept it would save money on new bruhes
Good idea!
You should invest in a street sweeper truck and a tire wash that every one that pays the landfill a visit must pass thrue on the way out Mabe conntact a few companys and ask if they are intrested in sponsor your youtube channel for advertising or something to help whit the cost
Cattle guard and wheel wash!
Good idea but we’re trying to avoid that because of space and expense
of all the things the dot can do, you're lucky!
You’re right
We have to go through an automatic wash down on the way out.
Trying to avoid putting one in if we can
i didn't think you had to manually lift the quick coupler levers on that 299D2 thought they'd be automatic
I wish
Are you going to spread some coffee grounds out there to spread some ground cover? I like your videos and find them enjoyable and informative keep up the great work. Hat tip to @dirtperfect for sending you my way.
That's the plan! Thanks for watching
Hearing that.
👍👍
I like the armoring of the windows. Does it prevent impact break age or just prevent separation of the glass?
Protects from impact
Might look into FODS mats.
Thanks for watching. I’ll look into it.
Red bull makes me pee too much. I drink monster the green one. Yes even at my age Ryan. Sometimes i mix mtn dew with it. Gets me fired up for a couple hrs.
I love me, some Red Bull!
welder fabber on you tube has a video where they use a pit with shaker strips under about 2 ft of water. trucks drive threw and get 90% mud ooff trucks
I’ll have to check that out, thanks for the tip!
Mr Digg check out the Case DL550 skidd steer @Dirt Perfect had one on his history channel LOL
OK, I will check it out!
install a wheel wash for the leaving trucks to drive through might help. A rock yard I use to go to used one and it cut down on the traveling dirt. just saying.
We may have to eventually
Hi the ideal thing would be a wheel wash on the way out reg bob uk
Thanks Bob, I’m gonna try to avoid the cost of the wash for as long as possible. Thanks for commenting & watching…. I appreciate it!
How come you leave those big mud holes at your entrance when you have access to an infinite supply of material to fill them in?
We’re working on fixing it now buddy
You could put a pit of water on the road
Actually, the water is kind of what’s making the mess but thanks for watching
Possibly dangerous to run on main road, may want to check out equipment auctions for a road grader with a broom attachment?
Great idea!
Would something like cattle guards help to get the dirt, mud, ect… to fall off in a easily maintained area?
Not a bad idea!
Need to invest in a wheel wash
Trying to avoid that because we don’t have a lot of space in their expensive. I’m hopeful that if we can reroute some water and put some more gravel down, we can avoid having to do a wheel wash. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment though I appreciate it!
Have you tried to sweep when you are going backwards even more like a dust pan
I tried going backwards. It worked, but not quite as well.
Spoooooooonssss!
Spoooooooooonssss!! 😂
Hey Man, ya'll probably know, but be real careful with that Cat skid steer you change and check them air filters real often; cause them Cat/Perkins engines are real easy to dust. Check the pre filter and pipes etc are all real clean too!
Ask me how I know..
God Bless
Thanks for the tip!
Haven’t you guys in fla heard of water with sweeping???
Not in FL
Got a question do you think you have any gold that you are washing out of the sand pit just curious
Going to check soon!
Put in a dran for the water
you need to bypass the switch
Thanks!
You could build a shallow pit and drive the truck through the water
Trying to avoid that if possible
🙋♂️ question…. On the “exit” side of the scales? ( Trucks’s are not pushing 80 thousand) what would happen if you put in ? Say a 100’ long grate system? Granted will not stop 100% but it will cut it down to maybe 20% tracking on the highway. One of our local pits put in a roller pipe ( to keep cows and goats in”” lol his landscaping crew as he calls them) but anyhow one of the unexpected plus’s of doing it was it cut down the mud an stone leaving the pit driveway. So he installed another one an? That practically eliminated the transmission of pit dirt and stone on to the highway. Granted it it a time consuming process but the returns were no labor or visitation from good ol’dot.. under the grate Mother Nature keeps it mostly washed out. it runs back down to the wash pit via small v ditch 🤷🏻♂️ some thing to think about ❤
That aint a bad idea at all, thanks!
I think you are running the broom in the wrong direction it goes the opposite direction as you think. The dirt carries over the top of the broom.
Really?? I’ll try it next time….thanks!
U need to put in a tire wash where they drive thru and wash there tires before they drive out
Trying to avoid that if possible
As a classic car owner, clean your streets ......
lol, ok buddy
The only way to stop it is to put in a tire washing
Trying to avoid that if possible….
So probably some guy in a lifted F350 with those wide offset wheels, and a hipster in a Tesla cried to the DOT about the road, people love to complain.
Gives them a taste of power I think! 🤔
How come you don't get an after dark crew to run it out on the road when there's less traffic?
Good idea, but we tired by then lol!
well I don't blame dot for paying you guys a visit if you all are making a mess on the roads then clean it up people don't like mud on their cars plus it can cause a reck.
Don’t want a reck!
DP sent me. If you are looking at expanding down to texas let me know. I know of 600 acres with some of that pure white sand that’s about to go up for sale. Leave a comment if ya are interested. Not but 3 of us know that it is on the ranch. Really nice place too which a 10,000 sq foot ranch house on it with and elevator in it. Would be worth the money and it is on the river.
That’s tempting, but ive got my hands full as is. Thanks for commenting!!
can u do a tire wash in
Trying to avoid that because they’re expensive
why don't you put a tire wash in
Because they are expensive
put a tire wash in
Trying to avoid that if we can……
@@TheRealMrDigg gotcha we have one of them at the landfill I work at
