I doubt that. He sees the boat about thirty feet before hitting it and you can hear him release the throttle and see him turn to the right. Problem is PWC (especially older ones like this) do not have rudders and will not turn well at idle thrust (no throttle.) If he wanted to splash the guy you would not hear the throttle cut so far out.
I had many jet skis by the time I was 13 but I also started riding motocross at 7 and have a brain.. I owned and rode 3 stand up jet skis heavily modified for speed at 13.. never 1 incident
shortthrow50 and that’s sad but True. I knew that and I’ve never ridden one of the damned things! Ive always been under the understanding of stay off what you can’t ride. Keeps you from getting killed.
I don't buy it. If you are THAT blinded by the sun, why are you rolling full speed blind? It really looks like he was going to rooster tail the fisherman and probably chopped throttle at the last second, thus killing any turn he was trying to make. BAM.
this happens A LOT. I had a friend do this the first time he rode a jet ski. that kid was 100% purposely trying to splash the boat, but he was too stupid to realize that without throttle, jet skis DO NOT TURN. I'm glad the kid didn't die from this, but he's a freaking idiot.
@@steve5912 I was replying to Tygerwoody, read his comment again. His friend was 1st time riding jetski but 1st thing they try to do is to splash people. Same with the kid in the video tbh
This reminds me of the accident that happened by my lake house a few years ago. A family came to visit at someone else's lake house and the kids had never driven jet ski's before. Within 2 hours they managed to run into a dock full speed on a point out in the main channel. The jet ski half buried under the dock and catapulted the riders 40 feet into someones yard. Both ended up with serious injuries and a totaled jet ski. Along with property damage to the dock. The driver was also around 13 years old, and the passenger was 8 or 9. It was a great way to ruin their weekend!
His stepdad was driving the jetski by remote control. It was supposed to be a huge spectacular explosion. Black smoke with shards of flaming fiberglass raining down. No survivors. But the kid overpowered the servo controlling the steering on the jetski and merely glanced off the bow of the boat. Stepdad had taken out $500k life insurance on kid. He was shot and killed trying to flee into Manitoba Canada. The mother has not been found but is being sought for questioning regarding the incident.
Mandy Holmbeck So you’re going to claim a trolling motor on insurance? Most people have at least a $500 deductible. That trolling motor doesn’t look high end so I doubt it’s even worth it to make a claim. If that was my kid that hit that guy I would without hesitation pay for his damages.
So glad you both were okay. Yes these are so dangerous if youre not always cautious to other boats in the area. The way it appears it did get him some tho. It's a miracle he didn't really hurt himself. I think you're pretty cool about it honestly too. 💜😉
We were on the lake all the time as kids without parents because my friend lived on the lake. I had a really close call pulling a skier, looking back and I didn't notice the boat that dropped a skier and circled back in front of me. By the time I saw them, they were screaming and diving overboard. I stopped and turned away in time, but it was a lesson learned. You can't be too careful. The spot happened to be in front of my friend's house and some time later I saw a boat run over another boat in that exact spot.
I believe I could've helped him keep his head under water a little bit longer. Sometimes these spoiled rich kids think they own everything,no respect for others.
I've been riding jet skis since the late 1980s and never had anything close to this happen. But I've seen it with others. Losing situational awareness is not cool. Neither is a 13 year old riding a PWC or jet ski. Min age should be 16. How nobody died in this video is beyond me, let alone not injured so bad / disabled so you wish you died. Luck or God was with you guys this day.
I doubt he didn't see the boat. He let off the gas and as anyone with a pwc knows you lose some, if not all, steering control with no power on. He was trying to do a close pass or splash I'd say.
For those of you that dont know it was a 13 year old kid and it was only his second day riding a jet ski and the sun was in his eyes and he couldn't see the boat till it was to late, tye kids only had minor injuries
The ONLY reason that he was unable to avoid the fishing boat was because he let go of the throttle as he attempted to turn at the last second....JetSkis don't turn at high speeds AT ALL unless the throttle is engaged.

Jumped out! I think your boat was pulled right out from under you...thank goodness your ok
If he did have the presence of mind to jump/tumble out, then that (probably) kept the injuries and damage from being (more) significant. The impact with an 'empty' boat that can rise out of the water would have less inertia to spread/absorb than one throwing an adult *and* however much water it would need to displace laterally. --and avoided injury from being hit by the inside of the boat.
I thought for sure that the jet ski operator was killed or horribly injured, then when we are told it was a thirteen year old I was horrified... I am so happy, hard to believe, that no one was injured. Thank you for this video and your comments.
Slow Down On The Water : That is a helluva way to be taught a lesson. But you can be pretty sure he does slow down and take notice of his surroundings after that. I just flashed back to the first time I rode my friends Jet Ski. There was a wide open lake much like this and we were both zooming around on his 2 Jet Ski's. I do remember the feeling of freedom that the Jet Ski gave me because you feel kind of invincible flying along on it knowing if you wipe out ... no big deal. You just splash into the water, hop back on unhurt, and away you go. And I do not doubt it was much the same for that kid right up until 2 seconds before impact with this fisherman. Here is my story because it was much the same for us too. I was moving along at a good clip ahead of my friend. What I didn't know was that he was coming up fast behind me on my left planning on getting close to me, but then right as he pulled up along side of me was going to cut it hard to the left and hopefully splash me with a wave of water he would generate from the hard cut left. But since I didn't know he was coming up fast from behind (I could hear him but couldn't really make out he was closing distance Fast!) and I did what pretty much anybody new on a Jet Ski would do ... I started to swerve back and forth. But as soon as I swerved left ... WHAM! His Jet Ski cut across the front of the one I was riding and he went flying forward as I came to an abrupt stop. Luckily neither of us were hurt, but his Jet Ski put a big crack in the front of mine. The thing is, had I cut left just a second sooner and he would have hit me instead. Lesson learned the hard way too. I am very glad to know both of you were unhurt too. Amazing considering the footage you have. He looks as if he could have been hurt real bad even in this footage the way it is.
He is very lucky the wave runner hit the boat and sent it away as he hit it. Hopefully there are parents of kids this age watching this video and they are smart enough to show it to their kids! Glad everyone is ok.
