May the force be with you! Every detail on this pen has its meaning and reason to be there. The ink is your force here. The force reserve means you can either put a new cartridge in by turning/opening the barrel to keep the force flowing. Or this pen also has a little technical thing that lets one use even the last drop of ink by clicking or turning something. I can't remember how it was supposed to work. The design is made for kids and teenagers who are interested in Star Wars technical future stuff. The cap is big because of that law that a pen cap has to have a breathing hole or must be big enough, so that children can't swallow it. The law was established after a child in the UK had died after swallowing some pen part. The letters on the cap, I think it's "LYS" here, is the abbreviation of the name of the color combination. I got Rexor (blue and grey), Balium (red and orange) and Titanium (black and grey). That strange grip section is exactly the same on the Rotring beginner's fountain pen for young children. I'm sure its design was thoroughly thought through and tested probably by a whole school, as usual. Greetings from Germany!

I have the very same pen with the same smooth, broad nib. I’m very fond of it and use it often enough. To me, the section is the wackiest feature of the pen. It took me a fair while getting used to it. But once I did, I had no qualms about the Core’s looks, and certainly not the wonderful way it writes. I use a short cartridge in my pen. I use Iroshizuku’s Syo-ro ink in mine. And the only Rotring pen I like more than my Core is the silver 600 I’ve owned for more than 25 years.
Thanks, Alan, for showcasing this endearing (to me) oddity here today. It’s a far nicer pen than any Safari or Metropolitan.

I have one of these. They are comfortable to hold and write with. Mine still works fine.

The pen looks like a pen children would use in elementary school. In the Netherlands and I thought also in Germany when children are around 6 or 7 they learn to write with a fountain pen. Especially the large cap would make it easier for children to grab and take it off.

Kirk: "Mr Spock, have you got your phaser and tri-corder?"
    Spock: "Affirmative, Captain"
    Kirk: "And your Rotring Core?"
Spock: "Left it on the planet surface, Jim"
Kirk: "I told you to Klingon to it"

Thank you. I like this pen and I bought two of them from eBay and I wanted to see a review of them before I start writing, so your review was very useful. One of my pens has XS nib.

Crazy! The grip and clip make me wonder if it was made by a former disgruntled Lamy designer. LOL I first thought the ink window were led lights. Does using it posted make it very back heavy/cumbersome? Nice job matching the ink to the cap.

A pen everyone should have an opportunity to see &write with. Very unique. As expected from Rotring, it writes well. Comes in a wide range of colors & nib sizes. Packaging was also very creative.

Fascinating dinosaur, refined, if not improved, by Lamy and Faber Castell.
Surely intended for kiddywinkles. I'd buy one, if it wasn't too expensive, but not £40 on Ebay interested, for a quirky novelty.

The soft rubber is rubbing off. The grip gets some getting used to.

Rotring 600 looks like the epitome of industrial quality and elegance but this looks like a joke. Still, very interesting
