The All New Trek Slash: High Pivot, Frame Storage, Mullet | First Look

  • Since it's been a few years since the Slash saw a revamp, and given the recent development of the Session high-pivot frame, this new take on Trek's long travel all-mountain/enduro bike shouldn't come as much of a surprise. As those of you with a crystal ball or skilled intuition might have guessed, the Slash has gone the way of the idler, now featuring a high main pivot and all the spinny bits that accompany such changes.

The integrated bar/stem only comes on the highest end 9.9’s. They know that actual riders don’t care for them, but they look real nice in the showroom and are a good selling point for people with too much coin

Looks great but seems like a really bizarre choice to put a XC-style one piece bar on an enduro bike. Bars are the first thing I change on my bikes, and this means having to find a stem too.

I'll put this here... none of this is 'new' BUT coming out of the bicycle battle of manufactuers over the last 10 years - it seemingly is Trek and Specialized that have emerged as the overall big bike company winners and for good reason - good quality, good value and a very close to boutique level of internal componentry coming from Bontrager or Roval/Specialized.
I think they will never push the envelope on R&D, but play the fast follow to the popular boutiques - Evil, Pivot, Transition, Santa Cruz, IBIS, Yeti etc.. to then bring in a less-polarizing flavor of the next tech (hi-pivot here) to the market.
To note, I am now convinced Trek's bontrager components are every bit as good as RF, We are One, OneUp etc.. and they are big enough to really back up their warranty and provide a 30 day return gaurantee. 2 shops I spoke to, have expressed that they have had the least amount of issues with their carbon wheels and the hubs, which have as much engagement points as a iNine, hope, RF vault etc. Well also all know Specialized is every bit as good and people gravitate to their saddles, grips and even rubber.
Also when it comes to the latest gen of these gravity end of Enduros... thats what they are... Enduro race purpose bikes. They do that well. Fireroad up, and KOM on the way down. I just do not believe you get to enjoy the purity of the ride when you take them on flow, climb off camber, tight uphill switch backs or IMO anything in the saddle.
I think that there is a place to scale back some geo on the mid-travel bikes, such that you retain most capability, while still having a weighted front end for better steerability through fork trail for flatter, on the saddle handling. I rode my friend's Large (s4) 2020 27.5 Stumpy on a black/blue flow trail, where it was not just a climb up to get down, and found that the still slack 65 deg front end, but with a bit longer 442 rear end and 445 reach, was more appropiate than the Geo on my much longer Norco sight, which is NOW small compared to the Range, Druids etc..
anyways. my two cents. Amazing bike I'm certain, but like the other HP enduros, I think its like those 130+ underfoot skis... very purpose oriented and further from being a single quiver in the gargae

Modern bikes are getting very porky, I had a 2017 trek slash 9.8 and it weighed 14kg with pedals, this new version which is also the next model up weighs 16.5kg, 2 and a half kg heavier, not to mention its more expensive than a brand new suzuki rmz 450 motocross bike, damn.

Can they make a bike more complicated? What’s with the handlebars? Gonna cost you even more if you don’t like the setup. 9400 +. I could buy a used vehicle and a new bike for that kinda cash.

$9400? When will people stop paying motorcycle prices for MTB's? Who can afford this shit? Unless you work in the bike industry and get a massive discount or you're a dentist, who else is buying this?

there are definitely people that come in and just buy these rowdy expensive bikes. but yeah you nailed it on the head. employee discount for trek is 50%

People that get caught up in specs buy these. I will never pay over 3k for any bike. Unless your literally a pro or make 130k + buying this is dumb
