I own 2 mountain bikes from 2017, they both have proprietary parts, 2023 is the year all those parts are becoming a problem, starting to wear out and it's a serious pain to get these parts. Next bike I get I really want to make sure all the bearings are standard, suspension is standard and no proprietary parts, that will be my main priority
I really don't like the look of high pivot, previous Slash looked way better and more aggressive in my opinion, even if the new one rides better maybe.
I agree and for the last one you said i don't think the gen 6 slash rides better the gen 5 can still rides better in terms of all Mountain enduro riding.
@@kawaspresso3228 there's a lot of Positive reviews about the Gen 5 slash and it did receives a lot of awards for being the best enduro mtb of 2021 and yes it rides Great better than most of the bikes in the same category, slash gen 5 is still better than some High pivot enduro Mtb that's why i can say in some ways it can still be better than the gen 6 slash
The looks are really dividing people! Don't think people are doubting this is possibly a better bike than the old one, but the looks are for sure controversial
It is a touch draggier, but actually pretty good on the new Slash. Be interesting if the next Enduro does go this way, as other brands, including Trek, have done high pivot DH bike first and then trail/enduro bikes later. Specialized hasn't on the Demo as yet
Personally, I think the high pivot is just adding more maintenance to a bike which isn't necessary. I can see why it is done but why overcomplicate things when they don't need to be.
I'd happily put up with a minute or two of scrubbing and an extra bearing change or two to do away with the amount of pedal kickback from the current slash
I get what you’re saying but it’s just a different design that comes with a tiny drawback. I’ve had a few Santa cruz bikes and they’re by far the most simple to maintain if that’s your biggest gripe.
That’s too many chainrings… if you’re a professional athlete and it actually delivers, then great, any extra fraction of a second that a bike can give you is worth it. However, if your a 4 days or less a week riding guy, the bike servicing and replacement parts will be a nightmare
It is more complex, but our experience of high-pivot bikes and their reliability has been good. In some cases it is only 2 extra bearings/pulleys like this. Old school MRP chain devices back in the day often had two plastic pulley wheels after all...
Gearboxes? Jack shafts like Pivot's/Starling's bikes? Lal bikes Supre? Who knows what's next, but each one is going to be a challenge to the eyes of many!
Couple of facts for the haters... #1. The Slash had the same frame from 2021-2023. This is the first rework since 2021. #2. High pivot may look ugly to some of you but it's very much functional and provides more advantages than disadvantages for hard riding.
That tripple pivot setup looks like a clock mechanism. Absolutely terrible looks. Im always biased towards Trek, specially Trek Slash however they made a complete bummer with this one. Hopefully this stupid and funky looking design is gone and forgotten with the next gen. Nobody asked for this. Its just looks absolutely trash. They should have just made an E-Slash. Made 2023 slash capable with a tq motor. That woulve been hell of a bike. Instead we get this abomination. Sorry Trek, but this is just a big fail.
9400 quid is simply absurd no matter how great the bike is. This stuff has been getting more and more ridiculous for a while now. Who buys these bikes anyways...
Would love to see an old vs new Slash comparison - maybe v4 vs v6 - to see how performance has changed
Do you remember that episode of the simpsons when Homer designs a car?
😂 Nailed It!

+1
Nice .. plz let it go head to head with the specialized enduro and other top enduro race bikes .. thank you
Or the G5 slash
No mention of dropped chains (numerous reports) or pedal feedback on climbs (definite issue). Huge oversights.
Seems nice but it's too expensive if even the base model is £4250/$4399, I don't think Trek are judging this right given the oversupply in the market
It is a high point of entry. There will be people who say the industry is inflating prices to make the inevitable sale deals looks better...
I probably will not be able to aford a bike like this in my whole life
Not many people will!
i’m having a hard time deciding between this or fuel ex would u say this really isn’t for normal trails?
This will be a lot of bike for lesser trails. A Fuel Ex will be a far stronger all rounder
@@bikeradar thanks i’m actually looking at the top fuel or fuel ex now because i really don’t want too much bike for just normal trails
If Loic Bruni doesn't use this three front sprocket system, neither will I. And yes I ride a new Fuel EX.
I mean technically Bruni doesn't ride a Trek, so by that logic, neither should you 😉
@@bikeradar ...other manufacturers also use it.
Gen 6 with more trending features the gen 5 slash with more traditional trek slash Dna.
Whatever they said 👆
In my opinion this high pivot trend is like mounting two steering wheels in a car. You can drive as better wit one...but trend is to mount two.
late northys? what does that mean
We blame Tom's muddled accent, he means Noughties (2000's)
soooo when I haver to purchase a new chain...... do I have to buy 2 to make one ?
You will find the answer in the video.
In this case, potentiall yes!
high pivot jeeezzz, more maintenance more drag. I am afraid New spec enduro will have same high pivot bs I am afraid!

lots of bits to keep working and doesn't really look that good either, always been a trek fan but not into this 1
It's an opinion splitter for sure, even among Trek fans!

High pivots are definitely dividing opinion, but it's nice to have the choice. If we all wanted simple, we'd all be riding rigid bikes!

It looks NOTHING like a Session now. Unless the next Session also gets a steep and straight seat tube and a torturous chain path.
looks like it can't go into the hardest gear... pretty bad chainstay design
It looks that way, but it does and works fine. There's not a huge amount of clearance, but it does work
What do you like about the new Trek Slash?
All the extra gadgetry makes these high pivot bikes fugly and complicated. What’s next, two more idler pulleys?
Gearboxes? Jack shafts like Pivot's/Starling's bikes? Lal bikes Supre? Who knows what's next, but each one is going to be a challenge to the eyes of many!

Well....Slash is off my list. That's a DH bike not an enduro bike. What is Trek smoking?
For me this bike is like a Ferrari or lamborgine

Trek needs to hire somebody to figure out a decent paint schemes😂
darn, comment 2
Better luck next time!
It's really ugly though.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! We're just not sure who it beholding this one! Seemingly not many judging by the comments
You don't need this....its just too much for most riders............
It is a lot of bike, stay tuned to see how it fares in our review!
