I love the "fingers crossed that I dont" part when referring to problems with the upper idler. Thank you so much for addressing the problems with it though. I was gonna get a slash until I learned about all the idler issues. Fuel ex for now, and then look into a slash next season if they fix the problem
I hope you like it! I personally liked the previous generation more as someone who appreciated how well that last one pedaled uphill. I feel like shock tunes and general geo/leverage curve are more important than the rearward axel path. I think DW bikes and maybe the Yetis are onto something far more than the High Pivot bikes.
How do you know if you likes it more if this just came out? Have you tested it for a while now? I have a slash of the prev gen 2... riddled between bgetting this new one.. Idk why
I will have to agree the PNW Range bar and stem are amazing! I kept having arm pump and numb shoulders when I was riding since upgrading to PNW products-- no more numb shoulders or arm pump. Great product referral! the Delium versatile reinforced tires...I have bombed 10 sets of stairs and ridden trails. No pinch flats they feel amazing first few goes with them the grip went you are in a berm is incredible they really come to life (lack of better terms) good luck in race!
Sram calls that new derailleur that mounts right to the frame Sram Transmission, Amazing system, supposedly capable of 600 lbs of lateral force and its fully rebuildable. UDH like you said is actually the type of derailleur hanger that Sram came out with to urge bike companies to build all new bikes with UDH, they did this because any bike that comes with UDH Is capable of running Sram Transmission, meaning bike companies have been designing their bikes to be Sram transmission compatable, without even knowing it until the announcement of Sram Transmission.
Might be my personal opinion but i think 2021-2022 and 2023 slash frames were stunning looking. 24 was imo a less eyepleasing. That double pivot makes it even worse. Idk about the performance, but visually imo it was big downgrade and i rarely say anything bad about Trek. I have 2022 carbon slash and was looking forward to maybe sell mine and get the new one. But i think ill keep it. But hope you enjoy the bike.
Sweet rig. I think it’s hysterical that the newest thing in non-electric mtbs is a technology that the industry has known about and used for like 30 years. I bet it will be like lying on marshmallow pillows on a feather bed going down. Wonder how the pedaling will be- that has always been issue with idlers.
I've demoed a few high pivots... weirdly i just can't get on with them. I'm quite a "jibby"/active/playful rider and I tend to find they don't respond well to riders who want to pump the trail. They just feel kinda mushy to me. Glad they exist and I'm sure for riders who spend most of their time ploughing through steep rough or racing tbey really come in to their own. Curious to see how you get on with it.
Great run but very frustrating with the chain coming off, could be the GX drivetrain that’s the issue. That’s an expensive bike with the cheapest SRAM drivetrain, I upgraded my GX and worked great but cost me a lot of money 😢
About half a year ago, I was wanting to get the old trek slash. But I decided they were too expensive for what you get, so I got a 2022 Norco Range c1. Lewis, I know you've had your experiences with them 😂but I love mine, and I will be soon putting a fox 40 kashima onto it and making it even more downhill capabe. But now, I actually love the look, and the new design of the trek slash and I'm curious of how it is going to go for you, for the rest of the year!
sick bike ! I was keeping an eye on that one to build from frame. It would be sick if you could report on a couple of things. Chain drag, pedaling, nimbleness. I also would like to know what made you go for AL instead of Carbon. Cheers mate !
I suggested a trek a few month ago but i wouldnt now! Carbon chain stay was first to crack within the first couple weeks. Mine is the Fuel Exe, Had the standard software glitches but just now im having to replace the cranks as one bent hitting something and pedal thread is knackered (the ethirteen cranks must be made of plastercene) You get a hex key that locks onto rear wheel thru axle and also fits the front wheel so naturally you would think you could use it for both except you cant get a full turn on front wheel since it hits the fork lower, the dropper post is too short. Pretty crap for an £8k bike!
Looks similar(ish) to the new Hope, which is no bad thing. For DH bikes, what about a Antidote Darkmatter, or a Unno Ever (if you can get one), maybe a Atherton Downhill.200?
Also…. Delium Tyres. Very interested in these and I know you like them, but…. it’s been ages since we heard they’re looking for a U.K. distributor. I wonder how many of us here have bought Conti’s simply for want of not being able to import Delium easily? Sorry to nag 😂
Hi, nice bike! Really good. Was also on the norco range. Which rims do you have? Are these new ones from enve? Alao have the m9 …;) Probably going too for that bike. Hope a vid is coming soonish. Maybe get pnw components…will be testing.
Maybe you can check your bikes to see if your best bikes have an accidental rad setup. I’d certainly watch the video sharing the results. I’m a bike fitter but for road, TT, xc, and cyclocross. I used this for my trail bike which I love. I’m new to mtb though so my opinion is worthless
@@LewisBuchananyeah I rode the new slash and a deviate claymore back to back all day on Saturday and the claymore blew the slash away in every way except full on bike park jump trails. Tech climbs, janky steeps, fast tech the deviate was better. Interested to see what you think of it
So let me get this right, the rear wheel will move backwards when it hits a bump = good, BUT the rear wheel must also return forwards to its original postion and if it hits a bump on its return the forces are increased and make it worse... which is why Virtual Pivot is there for this reason and trek along with so many others are stuck on some marketing bullshite
Had a look on the new Slash. Very interesting bike, but it’s overpriced in my opinion. I’ve ultimately decided on a Deviate Claymore and I absolutely don’t regret going high Pivot. You definitely feel the rearward axle path and it feels superior
Debatable if the new tech will make you faster unless you only ride the gnarliest trails. The previous gen Slash will definitely pedal better without the idler.
Very cool that you buy so many bikes to test them and share it with us !
Thanks mark! Glad you like
@@LewisBuchananhow’s the bike going since the chain came off few times
I’ve just derestricted my eMTB. Now that does make you move quickly! Few, that took some typing, someone pass my a pie😂
That video explaining the pivot system actually helped loads, never knew the difference other than the looks tbh, cool!
Glad I put it in there
in was a little skeptical about the yellow accents at first, but when you show the whole bike in a shot it ends up working really well. nice!

im absolutley in love with the PNW stuff, my first dropper ever and its been a season and a half with no issues other than it doesnt fit my new frame
It’s epic huh
Good luck keeping the chain on this bike!
I absolutely love my sets of Enve m735 wheels until I need to swap tires as their rim strips are a pain in the ass to break the beads.
Can't wait to see you shredding it!🇳🇵
New bike day is always the best. Sick rig.
Heck yeah
The commencal supreme and nukeproof decent looks good 👍
I also bought an aluminum Slash.
Your video is very interesting.
thank you.

I’ve always been the same, the only high pivot that I’ve loved and found super playful was the Cannondale Jekyll, definitely worth a try imo

I say that because i ride the previous model in ml and I'm only 5,9 and it feels cramped sometimes..cheers

Rely nice build but the worst thing you could do was to swap out the shock. The new vivid is crazy good and have eliminated al the coils.

Rider Area Distance. The reach from the pedals to the bars when you are locked out. There is a video on it on “joy of bike” link below
