  • I went on a quest to find someone who make a video game map over 14 years ago. It proved interesting.
IDK why my voice sounded so gravely this time, I need a new mic.

I don't know why, but I had a smile on my face while watching it. There is something about the fact that after 15 years someone finds the contact of the creator of a legendary map and managed to get in touch with him. I heard some people don't like the ceiling because it gives issues with rocket jumps, but that's just the way maps are, they don't need to be open all the time. I spent countless hours on those 24/7 Turbine servers, great times. Maybe it's because I often saw the map as just a place to chill and goof around and not play the game seriously, like sometimes I'd just experiment with a class I don't normally play or a weapon. There were times the whole team and myself would work together to break through and take the intel that was heavily guarded by pocketed heavies, one or 2 good snipers, and 4 to 6 sentries. It honestly was a lot of fun. The map just had a aura in it that can't really be fully explained, just experienced.

I'd think if Flobster wanted to update Turbine - it's their choice. But they shouldn't worry about people getting mad - they'll always get mad. Heck, they can just download the old version if they can't stand the thought of having the map be a tiny bit better from the authors pov - considering how much the game has moved on! I think Turbine is my favourite CTF map simply because it's super small and the intel isn't ridiculously deep within a base, so it keeps things fast and loose! -

Maybe you could make that into a little series where you do what you did for each map creator. You don't have to, but it still remains as an interesting idea to do for all the maps. I appreciate the effort of reading all info to figure out the original creator's contact. The video was entertaining to listen to and great.

I loved turbine and junction back in the day, there was something odd about indoor maps that really interested me. Didn't even know how controversial they were until I started watching your videos.

I know Turbine isn't a "great" map, but damnit it's one of my favourites to just mess around on.
I actually bought the map stamp for it, back in 2014 when I was actively playing just so I could see what the unusual effect was for the World Traveler's Hat, and Turbine was my map of choice.
Pretty disappointing, as it turns out, but whatever.

Another excellent video! So glad you're here preserving the history of TF2! And congrats on getting a response from Flobster! I know what it's like to attempt to make contact with the creators of old media. I don't think I've ever received a response from a old email I dug up. You got really lucky! Super cool!

I got my Turbine stamp in '09 and even though I only play pl these days, I have great affection for Turbine and love playing the odd round there for pure nostalgia. Great fun map to lean on and way better than 2Fort in my opinion!
