Some people fight their final bosses to save the world. Adol fights the final boss so he can say thank you to someone that helped him save the world. Seriously, this is one of the most satisfying final bosses I've ever had the pleasure of fighting.
It reminds me of a certain hollow trial from another Falcom game. It was a fight we technically didn't have to do but we will do it anyways because for us, it is so much more than that.
Ikr! I loved this game so much that playing it again didn't feel the same, since nothing is a surprise anymore. The lore and plot twists were done so well. The feeling of going to new areas - it's onetime organic hype experience. All subsequent times are just for fun.

I finished my 2nd playthrough tonight, this time on Nightmare mode. The battle gave me hell this time around. It kept spamming that huge explosion attack multiple times in a row. I was barely able to escape the blast radius each time. . I had nearly used up all my healing items but I took it down in the end. Incredibly satisfying. I even managed to get the Platinum trophy after finishing this playthrough as well.
After my time playing Ys Seven on nightmare, I thought I would be ready for this game on nightmare. It was really rough at first but then I got the timing down for flash moving and blocking, those were really handy for the first time playing Ys 8. I don't regret it but it was painful and I would gladly do it again.

This was such a great way to end Ys VIII. Instead of just stopping at the "final boss" and "the end," it stops at what's basically a new beginning--for Adol and Dana, and the world itself. Makes me wonder, can humans pull this off in the real world? Because things are quite dark on this side of the fourth wall.

Sadly, it seems humans for the most part can't do that; in fact, humans can't seem coexist with one another. Still, some of us get it--the people who live outside the rules and restrictions of their own societies. They're often branded as traitors, criminals, or otherwise "dangerous" people, because they actually know the truth. It's kinda like how Adol and Dana defied the Wardens, you know? The human equivalents on this side of the fourth wall are fighting against a real-world "lacrimosa."

This track is just so fitting. It perfectly captures what everyone, including you as the player, is thinking during this moment: they are not going to give up on Dana, they *will* see her again, no matter what.
The true ending of Ys VIII hurt me so much. It kind of just felt like everything Dana went through was pointless and even after all she went through and the sacrifices she made to save them all she was completely forgotten by everyone besides the party members and she has to be all alone again after everything she went through. I just felt like she suffered way too much throughout the game for her to end up like that.

What really stung though was the fact that she became the overseer of that which caused her all of that pain to begin with, and that literally no one else will ever know it unless they somehow come in contact with the Origin Of Life, something that no one else is probably ever going to do in the history and future of forever. Dana is easily to get emotionally attached to because she is such a likable character and you really feel the weight of her existence. Damn you, Falcom writers... damn you for writing one of the best tragedies I've ever played. Dana Forever. :-)
It's wild when you think about it. You kill him as a fully grown adult and then you, in a completely new version of the world, snuff him out as an INFANT.

I didn't see a pun but a carefully hidden-in-plain-view reference to Greek mythology... which is appropriate considering the Ys lore has a country called Greek. A-to-Z could be seen as Alpha-to-Omega, being the first and last letters of these respective languages. Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the origin of life. Wait a tic... the boss is called Origin Of Life... hrm... well, there it is. :-)

I agree 100%! My boyfriend showed me this game and I instantly fell in love with everything about it. The combat, the music and especially the story.

This song has been my wake up alarm for years lol I still think it's like a magnum opus of jrpg boss music.
For me this soundtrack gives the hopeful and emotional vibes while theos de endogram gives the "save the world" vibes
