  • Week 3 in Scotland, I find myself in the beautiful little village of Glencoe, famous for mountain climbing and its wild beauty. I was so fortunate to be there for the rutting season and see the autumn color's emerging. I spent a lot of my time learning about the history such as the Glencoe Massacre and the birch of mountain climbing in the area.

Beckie, thank you for the LNT break down. What your experiencing is happening all over the world on the trails. New hikers all over the world who are not aware of the damage they are doing to our natural resources. Thank you!

Very nice video ,Becky ,, Thank you for being my tour guide and the lesson of Scotland's lands and lore ..
Your interest for other cultures is wonderful ,and to learn of the history of the areas is So important so that the hardships and struggles can be
Foreseen not to be repeated ...
These cultural travels are so very interesting ,, maybe in the future you can persuade Louise to join you ... I think the perspective of differing thoughts would be very interesting .. not to mention the personal safety of another .. I'm sure you are staying aware of surroundings and that with the required distancing everywhere unwanted approaches are very obvious .... We just don't want anything to happen to our Beautiful International Tour Guide ... Thank You so much for sharing your experience on trail in a very beautiful location ....
..... Stay Safe and God Bless .....

I've been to Glencoe without knowing what to expect - it was a detour from the West Highland Way, because we run out of food. It turned out to be a very good ideea. It was quiet, with very good looking houses. I took a lot of pictures. We've stayed in the camping (one of the best), went to the Lost Valley, hitch-hiked the way back to our small tents. I've been to that Village Hall too (with Himalayan things). I have great memories about that place. It's also the place where I've lost my headlamp, but I don't mind :)

Great that you did a bit of a talk about Nepal. This exhibition visits Scotland regularly but I have never been in the right place at the right time to go and see it. Such adaptable and resourceful people from one of the poorest countries in the world. Somebody at work once came up to me and said he was doing the Everest Base Camp trek and would I sponsor. I said yes, but I did say that you have to find out and tell me what your organisation is doing for the Nepali people. In particular whether any of the money goes into building roads, schools and hospitals in Nepal and whether the porters have warm clothing provided for them and the same food and medical care as the trekkers from wealthy western countries. I know a farming couple who did it and they said that the porters had to sleep outside under blankets while the trekkers had tents and warm sleeping bags - which the porters had carried and put up for them. Also that if one of the porters is sick or injured and has to be invalided out of the trek, they don't get paid and another porter from the same village also has to drop out to help them get back home. Some of the trekking companies are up front about what they do to benefit the Nepali people but sadly not all of them.
Last time I stayed in Glencoe I stayed in a rented cottage. When the owner got wind that I want to move to Scotland she said she was about to retire and sell up. Quite seriously would I buy her cottage!

You’re certainly a ‘ braw wee lassie’ Becky. A very special place in my long mountaineering life is Glencoe. Thanks so much for the message re leaving no trace. I fear that the morons who come to such places just to drink and crap will eventually spoil things for the rest of us who cherish our wild places. Keep up the great videos, brings back great memories for the likes of me and will add to your store of great memories for your own future. Well done Becky for bringing up the important subject of leaving no trace and respecting the outdoor environment. I totally agree that this year has been an awful year for the wild camping community. Unfortunately I very much doubt that the people who would benefit the most from your advice and tips are probably not watching or actually interested in following any rules that involve giving the country side the respect it deserves😕Thankfully the majority of people do respect it however and hopefully next year we can return to more normal times when the package holidays are up and running again.
