When he's sitting at the keyboard just playing things out of the blue..... several of those takes could turn into the most amazing instrumental ballads and he doesn't know what he just did XD Nothing will ever top Shawn's talent.... nothing!

He Is somehow in the studio and He is being controlled ..Shawn Lane is a live player His best playing is live..!!!
He is the absolute best of the best of the best..he destroys all players ...the best someone trying to master his instrument can do is to listen to Shawn..it’s flat out amazing the level this guy was and is still is..R.I.P

Do you have the vid of him soundchecking in 1992? He has the Charvel and plays some amazing licks, twiddles with some knobs on his amp etc and Rickman is running around in front of the camera.

There will never be another Shawn
He wasn't a guitarist he was a musical genius at the upmost level. If he put a small amount of time into any instrument he would be able to play it at a mastery level where he can sound the notes in his head. That's why when people just learn one instrument they play like that instrument, rather than using it to express the notes in their head. For example on guitar you sweep or tap just for sake of it, rather than using that technique only if it helps the music in your head come out easier.

What an insane player
Amazing to see this footage! This era of Shawn Lane was much more interesting to me than a few years later when he got so eastern/meditative-oriented (although the blues/boogie-side of his stuff is fairly uninteresting to me as well). Incredible to get a glimpse of this!

Could someone fill me in. Did he re-record the whole record? I thought they just added drums? I prefer the original personally. It has a vibe.
Yeah shawn recorded everything in a small wardrobe with sm57’s for the original, mixed +mastered all and played drums using a keyboard and yeah I agree that the 1992 original was better (the video was during the 1993 reissue)

In my opinion, Shawn was a better player, and had better musical ideas in his early 90's era than in his Jonas Hellborg era
His musical ideas were more 'refined' in the Hellborg collab era
