What I like about tiny white coffin is, childhood innocence is not innocence as in they can do no wrong, or ideate wrongdoing. Rather we project that innocence onto them, they are our vehicles of hope. It's a story laden with absurdity, yet it feels somehow raw and real. His turn of phrase and prose are absolutely wonderful at time. I just fuckin love the guy and all the work he left behind.
Norm was the boy in the Tiny White Coffin. He was the boy fighting courageously against a terminal illness. He was also himself in the story, having confronted death, he walked alone down that long black road and never saw things the same again- just white clouds and nothing more. Damn he was brilliant.
And ironically, it was that cancer that made him as unmatchable as he was, the driving force behind his fearless stage performances. I could be wrong, but I feel like if he had been in perfect health his whole life, he would’ve been one of those decent comedians you’d see on Just For Laughs (I’m Canadian so I’m not sure what the American equivalent show is) and I could imagine he’d write for sitcoms and such. But the thing that gave him the balls to be as outrageous and philosophical had to have been in part from the looming death that was noticeably following him, always on his mind, the thing we regular folk do such a job of not thinking about when we’re in normal health.

Imagine watching interviews of Mozart and performances of Liszt. They have been lost to time forever and only live on in the form of paper and musical academic tradition. Yet what the future will hold for generations born hundreds of years from now - and just like people are into old jazz, old country and classical music, there will always be fans of a certain era within a culture - is nothing short of the entire cultural fund of a world that has been gone for hundreds of years. The implications of societies being made up of individuals who have almost no common cultural ground will lead to a complete reorganization of a global public sooner or later. Excellent audio master. 👍
Only 3 comic's have made my gut hurt in my 55 years on this earth...the other 2 Mr.Carlin and Mr.Chappelle... Mr Macdonald thank you from the bottom of my heart...there are only a few people in this world who will be remembered forever as being the smartest and best on and off there fields of there professionsin in my opinion... Mr. Williams, Mr.Orr, Mr. Sayers, and Mr. Mcdonald
Do you believe Chapelle has Norm’s “ humility” though?
This is Norm’s finest hour.
awesome job with the audio!! It was torture not being able to hear him all the way through previously.
Well, IT'S CERTAINLY PLENTY LOUD IN THIS PARTICULAR ITERATION.
THANK YOU!
loved this guy. miss him still.
This interview is one of my favorite videos of all time.
Norm is a legend man, so glad that I am a fan of this guy
thank you for uploading this ❤️🩹
Thank you so much for this. Really. From the bottom of my heart. ❤ To me it’s heartbreaking not only that he died relatively young but that he spent his last months in the hospital. This video is a treasure.
I was under the assumption that I’ve watched everything Norm but yet I stupidly passed over this video because of the graininess and assumption the audio would be just as poor. I am both annoyed with myself and extremely pleased that I ignored it until now because it was the greatest cherry on top Norm experience ever.
37:37 that sigh means so much now knowing he was ill
Wow so cool....
Norm was so highly intelligent and a deep sharp mind and just an adorable good guy.
Missing you dear Norm...
Norm and Vonnegut have made me cry more than anyone else. Thank you
I'm a big fan of incoherence
Wow thank you for the better audio I remember when this first was posted with my ear next to my phone
Norm was a pure comedic genius and unfortunately he was taken from us much too soon. Thank God we have a great collection of film and video to refer back to. Norm, you will be missed.
its like hes talking to an older version of adam eget
Holy mole! This incredible. Only record I've seen of norm reading his fantastic book. And this is great on every level.
“You can’t get into heaven without Jesus Christ.”
Looking forward to seeing you there, Norm. From one chunk of coal to the other.
Thanks for posting this.
Great job! I was one of the moaners on the last video. That must have been a lot of work
