  • This is one of Norm's last standup sets performed in front of a live audience about a month before lockdowns.
This set has a lot of material from his last Netflix special that he filmed alone. This way you get to hear how it would do in front of an audience. Enjoy!
Norm Macdonald - Hollywood Casino, Columbus, OH (Jan-31-2020)

Guys get this. I fell in love with norm’s work from watching UA-cam clips of him. I would obsessively watch his standup and podcast clips. I even found his old standup specials on DVD. One day I decided that I would drive all the way from Richmond, VA to the Wilbur theater in Boston, MA to see him (believe it or not it was the closest upcoming show). I bought tickets for his show there in October, 2021 to see my hero. And then in September he died. While at first I was devastated, eventually I found it to be hilarious. Getting geared up to meet a hero and then he suddenly dies sounds like a Norm bit, so I’ll take it. It’s almost as good as seeing him live!

God Willing, it Will be the year. The last time Norm Macdonald came to Boston i missed him. A client who saw him said it was sad because everyone left the room, (which, made me smile and really wished i was there) Norm said, real comics referred to it as "walking the room." A right of passage. So when you do try, remember, the greatest thing to happen to an aspiring or famous comedian is not only to have the crowd turn on you, but to get up and leave. LOL. Norm said he loved it when that would happen because it made the great nights feel that much greater. Plus he found it funny. Watching a happy room slowly turn into an unruly mob. 😂 Regret is so much worse than rejection. And Norm said he had no regrets about his life. Either way, you cant take life too seriously, you'll never make it out alive. God Bless man ! 🙏

He had a beautiful way of letting people know his views on faith, his mother, and his own imminent death in this monologue while still keeping it funny. There is so much personal truth packed into this. He's able to talk about things that mattered deeply to him, while keeping it light. The casual listener will think the parts about his mom, his funeral, and his faith were just bits, but they're clearly expressions of Norm's deeper thoughts and highlight where his mind was at.
God bless you, Norm. You've become an example to me in my life, of how to cling to hope and light when everything around you seems otherwise.

Norm has said that he does not like it when a comic’s aim is to be perceived as intelligent, instead of trying to make people laugh and to entertain. He spoke about Bill Maher as his chief example of a comic whose main goal is to be perceived as being smart. The greatest comedic beat in history *is* by Norm. He was the master at sitting in the awkward silence, as the audience is wondering whether or not it just failed to get to get a punchline.
Whenever someone mentions he never told anyone he was dying, we never knew about the cancer...
I like to think of him smiling through our collective stunned silence, just waiting for us to laugh 😢
    Rest In Peace, Norm

I enjoy hearing Norm, but NOTHING BEATS ACTUALLY SEEING HIM AS HE PERFORMS, the little goofy faces he makes, laughing at himself, the blank stare he gives after purposely telling a joke that don’t really make any sense. Or a joke that’s so simple you’d never think a PROFESSIONAL comedian would say it, but he does and acts like it’s great, I loved him on Conan O’Brien, his extremely long Moth Joke, and the one about the farmer (I think) and the pig, just a damn goofball, He was a true genius of the comedy game.
