Glad to see some love being given to a 924. I own a 924, 944, and a 996. I love all the models and it's great to see all of them being kept on the road.

Interesting project Will. Happy New Year. Wearing shorts in December, NC's wacky weather.

Cool Project - Erik will shake the fat and old out of that Martini and set you up with something intoxicating to hammer on in the outback. Look forward to following this build.

I love the idea of a Martini livery rally 924 with patina. That will be a lot of fun to blast around in with no worries.

I had no idea Erik was my neighbor (ish) until I stumbled across his name in another FB group recommending him to someone else in Livermore, and then saw your car on his FB page.

    I’ve been considering this but with a 928. Something about a v8 ripping off-road..

Will i have a question i want a 1980-1989 Porsche 911 targa but i know that the 1987-1989 are the best ones because of the G50 transmission but i want your opinion. I have a budget of 30 - 60k and i want something that has under 100k miles. I have found some cars but im not exactly sure if i should wait to see if the market goes down or try and buy one now. Ive always loved Porsche's as a teen in the 80's and prices have just shot up in the early 2000's you could buy a targa for 35k in excellent condition and low miles i was stupid not to hop on to any of those classics. So do you think i should wait till the crazy car market goes down or try and buy one now?
    cheers,
    Chris

Oh my Will - this sure looks like a money pit about to happen. Low price donor car with rust, individual throttle bodies w/ stand alone engine management (~$20K), revised suspension, undertrays, etc. I hope you and the mechanic have developed a budget you’re willing to work with.
Low 100s horsepower - this car will not get up and go like any of your 911. In the early ‘00, I had a 914 1.7 with that neighborhood of horsepower - it was definitely an inertial car.

Hey David. Hope you had a good new year.
Haha definitely don’t get too caught up in the cosmetics of it. That’s not the point. In fact, the rougher the better. You don’t want to have to be concerned about paint, scratches, etc.
Yes, there’s a hard and fast budget and we are confident we can stay within it.
Regarding power, without question you’re correct. Weight reduction is the name of the game here.
Should be an interesting project. There are guys doing this already so it’s not completely unknown.

These are inexpensive because they were Porsche's mistakes 🤷‍♂️ sorry. I am sure they are people out there who like these but they are in a different league. Anyway, good luck with the project, hope for a good result! Moreover, I heard in this very channel that the most expensive Porsche was the cheap one...

    • @Rennthusiast
      @Rennthusiast  2 роки тому +1

I hear you and won’t debate you on that…but I also won’t be surprised if clean examples start going up in value. I’m not a huge fan personally (this project is a means to an end) but it seems like people are chasing cheaper Porsches and driving up the demand.
I saw that Hagerty has put the 968 in their 2022 bull market list. I don’t know much about them but I do know they’ve not been as sought after as the 911’s. So, yes, we will see how this unfolds. And believe it or not, there’s a community of 924 lovers out there.
