Thank you all for subscribing! I did not think youtube would change our life when I started uploading. I thought, make some fun videos and see what happens. Scott if you plan on making this your forever home. I highly recommend and erv. It will help keep clean air in your house instead of having air and dust from outside to make up the air that you might be losing.
Hi Scott and Jess. You both seem so lovely. I'm about to embark on a renovation project myself (a do-up of a 110 year old villa in Grey Lynn). Your videos are very helpful (I've watched the Kingsland reno numerous times given the similarities to what I'm going to do) but even if your videos aren't related to something in my build, I keep your videos going because I want to support you guys. Great content and great positivity. All the best.
I did wonder why did you put the Polish currency there in the first place as noone ever does that:) Became so clear later on. I'm from Poland living in Welington. Been here 8yrs now. Visited Nelson so many times and I love it there too. Found you on yt around a year ago when when I decided to do double glazing on our house here windy Welly. Done the whole house all by myself since thanks to your video with Meridian which helped me save around 20k if I were to subcontract it. Thank you guys I absolutely love your content and keep the good work going. A bit of a token from me for your future content. PS. Hope Poland treated you well:)
Hi Scott, I've been subbed for over five years now, I'm a carpenter too and watching your videos was one of the big influences on my choice to start my own company. I'm now fully self employed, and at 26, actually really happy with my job for the first time in my life. Thank you so much for all the laughs and all the skills and information you've shared along the way, always presented with your signature attention to detail both in your work and video making. Big love, keep it up mate.
Thank you for everything. I appreciate all of your content and love to see you and Jess grow together from the US. Please come visit us in North Carolina and we'll make sure you don't starve.
I was trying to make it a full $50.00. But my phone jumps around too much. Anyway, Jess thank you for the sparkle you add to your channel. Also thanks for being honest about your spending amounts. I hope others kick up too.
Thanks! Love your show. My wife and I watch it religiously on Saturday mornings. We completed the first half of our renovation in Wellington last year. So we know the pain and suffering and satisfaction. Our extension begins in September and involves a lot of carpentry including a dEck on top. My wife is convinced I have a bromance with Scott. But secretly I fancy Jess! Looking forward to episode 500.
Well now I need to watch Lord of the Rings again! What a beautiful place. Congratulations on 400. Here’s to another 400! Thanks guys! All the best for the future. Love the channel!
Here's a Super Thanks from the great state of Utah, USA. I stopped watching around espisode 100 and have a lot of catching up to do! Excited to see you doing so well Scott and team.
Thank you for all the great videos. I have been following for years and have gotten a lot of useful advice for my own renovation. I too have a very strong emphasis on comfort in my home so there is also a lot of extra work and extra spending - but it is all worth it in the end. Probably also in the long run in terms of value of the house. I am currently renovating the house full time so I can't spare that much but I feel I have gotten so much for so little over the years. Wish you the best.
My wife and I look forward to a new SBC video every weekend. Thanks so much for giving us all a sneak preview of your life, and love seeing Jess so much in the videos! Will you have more merch soon? Understood if it's logistically a nightmare right now!
Started watching around Ep 100, crazy how big this channel has become. It's been a wild ride, my life, like there's has changed a lot since I first started watching.
Thanks! Been here a long time. Remember Paerau's handstand at episode 100. Also, not sure if you can change this, but in my browser layout (Theater mode 1920x1080 laptop) the THANKS button is not visible. So if there's a way to move the Thanks button to the left, it would help.
Thank you Scott & Jess. You make a great double act and i look forward to each week's episode. Keep up the great work on your renovation. I love that you're making a home that you want to live in rather than a "smart" investment.
Fantastic episode: I feel like you are taking us on a life journey, not simply a building channel. You both are so honest and sincere, it's a joy to see how things are unfolding with the house, your friends, and to see the beautiful surroundings. Thank you!
Sounds like Jess is what TV and film would consider a Producer. She does all the stuff to make sure the externally visible work can be done and the money comes together.
Thanks for the informative, genuine, and enjoyable content. Definitely my favourite part of the weekend is making a coffee and watching your video. I'm fixing up a 1905 weatherboard cottage and your videos on window scribers have been invaluable. Thanks for all the effort you and Jess put in and I hope this small contribution helps you get to where you want to be in life. All the best.
Takk! We purchased a house six years ago and have been renovating it gradually ever since. I came across your videos not long after and have been watching them with immense joy every week. With no prior renovation experience, I've mostly turned to UA-cam for guidance, and your videos have been a significant source of inspiration. I'm eagerly awaiting the next 400 videos! A big thank you from Stavanger, Norway.
Your channel has proved a great source of knowledge as we renovate our 1920s seaside cottage in Whanganui NZ 💁🏼♀️ and it makes me sound like I know a thing or two when the tradies ask questions 😉
Thanks for the effort you guys are putting in! My wife and I just finished our home renovation and it was really nice and inspiring to watch your videos when we took some rest in the evenings. Thanks for inspiring us and motivating us to pay attention to detail!
Love the show, been viewing for a couple of years, went to the first episode and have watched all since, great content, production values and especially people :)
There is no Saturday morning (or late Friday night) without SBC. It's like (or better) a Netflix series you always tune into. Thank you guys and happy 400! Ps.: Is there a way to support Gaston from Europe?
Congrats on getting to 400 episodes. I’ve seen them all. I’ve always appreciated your consideration when pronouncing Māori names for native timber species, Kauri not cow-ri for example. But can you call your favourite maunga Aoraki Mt Cook. There are a lot of overseas viewers subscribed. Took us a long time to get that one restored. Nga mihi to you both. All the best
Have loved your channel since I found it about episode 60 and respect what you are both doing. Well done. Keep up the $thanks, it’s easy for people like me to help out when you’ve done something inspiring
Hello from the Seattle, Washington. Been watching since lockdown. Very Inspired by you both, Just finished a remodel of my own and love watching someone with more experience make it look a lot easier than it is. Best of luck to both of you!
Awsome channel! Love your videos. Big thanks from norway to you both for being an inspiration, your carpenter tips, and for your content to be a perfect brake in an it guys busy life!
Always looking forward to your episodes every week! You and Jess always keep it fun. Great work on the editing, loving the music and the little intermissions. -Greetings from Chicago!
Love the videos! You made me spend great amounts of money on tools and made me get into carpentry. Last summer I built my first cabinet. It is a bit wonky but it's my first cabinet :D Greetings from Germany!
Great episode! I'm a self employed kitchen installer in Nelson. Give me a shout it you need any bits for your new kitchen I have heaps of new hinges just sat around in my shed that you are more than welcome to have. Keep up the good work
Hey mate, thanks! Send me a message via the contact form in the website. I’m sourcing kitchen hardware at the moment ! www.scottbrowncarpentry.com/contact
That was undoubtedly the best Q&A UA-cam video I have ever seen. Taking us along for a little road trip while you answered viewers' questions, was totally unique. Where you live is such a beautiful part of the world. As a professional photographer, I find the landscape in & around Mount Cook to be unbelievably picturesque. Hopefully, one day, me, my partner & my cameras will make it to see & photograph this amusing place. I nearly didn't watch this video, thinking it was going to be yet another overly long & boring UA-cam Q&A. I'm so glad I decided to watch this. Good luck for the future, Scott & Jess & may the channel go from strength to strength.
My favorite part about the move to Nelson is seeing Jess in the videos so much more! Love the channel. Thank you both for creating such amazing content! Love the videos.
Thanks for all the great 400 episodes. You are a lovely couple and it’s been great learning about good carpentry, while watching your journey. The world is a small place! Simon (UK) 😊
Hi Scott and Jess, I live in Kitakyushu, Japan. Master craftsmen everywhere. And the tools you can find in used shops is crazy. Yesterday I saw a mortiser and a week ago a bench top planer. The planer was 1/3 the original price and the mortiser was 1/4 the original price. Of course I had to buy them. I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work! Make a Japan plan!!
You're totally right about the "overcapitalizing", it's YOUR home, having it your way with the comfort you desire is worth a lot. I'm currently renovating a home I will live in for many years to come and plan to share. The sharing part isn't for "return on investment", nor are most things I'm doing with it, I want to share it because it's big enough to share, and I do the things I do with it because it fits my needs and what's needed to comfortably share some spaces without getting in eachothers ways. I'm definitely "overcapitalizing" as well, as well as making terrible choices if adding value was the sole purpose (f.e. I went with radiators instead of underfloor, a separate long and narrow kitchen instead of an open one, low ceiling heights... all against what's trendy and gives great first impressions to a buyer), but I don't want to live in the perfect flip house, I want to live in a house that suits my needs and taste.
Love your channel, been watching since the episode about straightening a wall very early on. I do fitted furniture and some finishing Carpentry here. Self taught so channels like yours are invaluable to me. I'm from Auckland but live in UK , liked seeing the views around Auckland and my parents spent their last 20 years in Anakiwa , near you, so I'm familiar with that coastline too. All the very best for your future together and the next 400 episodes.
You cant imagine my face as a home learning carpenter/woodworker from Poland who work as a one because of your videos. And after 2/3 years of watching your channel i see PLN and couple seconds later i hear that you had been in my country. i’m speechless and amazed ❤❤❤ thank you
Congratulations on the 400 episode! I've been watching since lockdown when your channel was a great source of comfort and inspiration. Just watched the episode about your time in Edinburgh. Can't believe you lived in Portabello - we were practically neighbours!!! It's a lovely place but not quite Nelson. And the sea is still full of jobbies...
Oh, what a great 400th episode! We were last in NZ with our 3 young children in 2010. We hired a campervan around both islands for nearly 4wks. We stopped off in Cable Bay, Nelson & Kaiteriteri, then on to Hanmer Springs. So, it's been lovely seeing how you arranged this episode. Our Kiwi friend, Mel, is from Christchurch & her parents are here in the UK, just now. We look forward to the Friday videos & can't wait to see the next development with the house. As we live in a nearly 400yr old house in the NW of England, we know exactly what it's like to renovate & restore. We've taken down the stone & timber framed gable end & rear elevation. £££ have been spent & we have yet to extend. So, here's to the next 400 episodes, as we toast you, while drinking our NZ wine!!! Onwards & upwards. You do you! 😊
I am an American who moved to NZ in 2022. I discovered the Menz Shed and re-ignited my desire to do woodworking. And this led me to your channel somehow. Your episodes renovating your house has really helped me with the culture shock of NZ home building and living in a NZ home. As you mentioned in this episode houses are cold, not insulated, single glazed and damp. You don't heat every room all the time. Bedrooms are heated by space heaters. Good on you for deciding to live in a warm, healthy home. And with Scott's skills making sure it is done correctly. I saw in a recent video the heat vent/exchange tubing (don't recall its real name) and wonder if you could do an episode on just that, and what options you considered? Someday I hope to own a home here and need instruction on this topic. Love the channel. Am jealous of Scott for getting free tools.
Saturday morning = the week’s Scott Brown episode, and it’s such a weekly joy. Congrats on Episode 400 and look forward to seeing the great show continue.
So nice to hear you wanting to make the house warm and dry, and live in it. So rare these days. Kiwis average length of home ownership is only 5 years now. Kiwis flip houses like crazy. Very nice to see people building a home, not just a house.
I've been a long time viewer, somewhere between ep. 75 & 100. Went back to the beginning and "caught up." Your content is one of my weekly indulgences. Thanks for all of it.
Your channel has helped us renovate a 1890s workers cottage in Melbourne. We bought in early 2021 and during our settlement I watched every one of your videos. One of the best pieces of advice/equipment was the full faced 3M respirator, especially for us removing lath and plaster.
I've been watching you for about a year, maybe more, I love how honest you are, how positive, how real. Today, when I heard that my country Poland had a part in your life, I was happy!! Keep it up, you have a faithful viewer from Gdynia (near Sopot and Gdańsk)! :-) Regards and wish you all the best!!
Congrats Scott & Jess on 400 episodes. I used to drive my carpentry lecturer wild at Otago Polytechnic, he would tell us something, and I would say, okay, but that's not how Scott Brown does it, and he would say Scott who... Luckily shortly afterwards, some of the younger tutors there were able to bring him up to speed :)
What you are both doing with your house is called "Stewarding". You are stewarding it for yourselves and future generations. It flies in the face of short-term thinking to make a quick buck. Good on ya! Also I've just moved to Japan from NZ and am cheering ya's on to make it here yourselves 😁
Love this channel. I live in the UK with my lush little family, been following Scott Brown Carpentry for a few years after finding it on youtube whilst surfing for woodworking inspo. I like how the videos have evolved to include the both of you and to see a genuine, respectful relationship. BIG LOVE
Hi, I'm just a painter from Sweden and just want to say that your videos are really good. It is first time I write something but thought about 400 episodes so I had to write something, have been watching for a few years now. If all craftsmen were like you, the construction industry would be better. Greetings from Sweden
Wow, that 2017 flashback of Jess talking about the camera gear really got me. I mean, camera and UA-cam, that was Scott's thing back then, and that comment just showed me how deeply interested and invested you are into each other. And then boom 2023, you got the gear to do the shot Jess just talked about. I mean wow, didn't see it coming. So much storytelling in just 20 seconds of video. I love you guys, you are my vibe.
I think the NZ tourism dept needs to sponsor you two. We’re sold on visiting one day!
Totally!.
Sames!
please don’t don’t come
You better save up ..its bloody expensive here

Thanks for turning me on to the Shoyan Carpenter and I hope you can visit him in Japan! Best Q&A I've seen on UA-cam.
Thank You for inviting us into your home and lives every week.
Danke!
Thanks Scott and Jess, look forward to the Friday uploads all the way from Arizona.

Hey Scott and Jess, love the content and learn a lot from watching. I have renovated an old villa so appreciate how much effort and cost is involved:)
Thanks so much for always being honest conscientious and down to earth. It’s always a joy to watch you both.

Thank you!
Been watching for a few years now. Love the channel and excited to see what the future holds!
Thanks for the great content!
Love watching you guys, keep up the good work.
Love the channel Scott and Jess. Keep up the great work!
Love your perspective on the "over capitalizing" view. I've tried explaining that before and haven't not been as elegant as you.

Hey mate, thanks! Send me a message via the contact form in the website. I’m sourcing kitchen hardware at the moment ! www.scottbrowncarpentry.com/contact
glad Jess got over being camera shy, she is a real asset to the channel
Merci!
As a Polish Jafa it’s so cool to hear you spent time in Poland. Hope you enjoyed it.
Dziękujemy.
Thank you!
I'M A Master Carpenter in New York City USA, greatly appreciate your level of skill and attention to detail, keep up the good work! Thank you !
Thanks for picking up my question team! Appreciate the advice!
Thank you!
keep going guys !
21:35, the shot of Mt. Cook is incredible. Cheers!
You cant imagine my face as a home learning carpenter/woodworker from Poland who work as a one because of your videos. And after 2/3 years of watching your channel i see PLN and couple seconds later i hear that you had been in my country. i’m speechless and amazed
❤❤❤
thank you
Totally resonate with the over capital comments. Build responsibly, ethically and well designed. The world has enough substandard housing
I've seen all 400 episodes, we should be the ones thanking you, with the amount of work you both put in.
I've been a long time viewer, somewhere between ep. 75 & 100.
Went back to the beginning and "caught up."
Your content is one of my weekly indulgences.
Cheers Mate
Thank you!
BIG LOVE
You guys are so cool. Thank you for all the great exciting episodes. So glad to see Gaston too. Peace and love.
Hi, I'm just a painter from Sweden and just want to say that your videos are really good. It is
first time I write something but thought about 400 episodes so I had to write something, have been watching for a few years now.
