Has been my absolute favorite series and channel over the last 1,5 years. Your work is stunning man, keep it up
"We've got this big empty Square Space." Classy lead-in Jess!!
I live in europe, first time i actually saw new zealand (more than just a wikipedia page) was by watching this channel 4 years ago or so... meanwhile i got married, we went to new zealand for our honeymoon (didnt go to nelson though), absolutely fell in love with it, now we're considering moving there permanently, napier or wellington... you are a lot more than a carpenter and a youtuber mate, at least for me. ❤
Wellington, Wellington. Not biased!
Thank you. Been having withdrawals, hope your break was great.
One thing I've learned over these past 2 years: Zip Wall is the best thing since sliced bread!
UA-cam series like this are way better than anything on Netflix
I know the house reno has been great but Jess crushed her gardening this year. I am sure Scott helped, too! :D
Thanks! It has been a lot of work, and I've loved every moment 😊
No one gonna talk about how clean that transition was to our favourite square space sponser bit ? 😂
As an apprentice myself I’ve been loving following along hoping one day I could be a sliver of the builder you are !
I can’t believe you have been working on the house for 2 years. Have been an avid viewer from way before you moved. It has gone so quick, had no idea it was 2 years. It’s a fantastic home, the love passion and craftsmanship that have gone into the place is amazing. Only a few more rooms to finish off……2 more years? Haha. Keep it up. Cheers
All that work done within a reality TV time frame 20 min time for ad break this show is supported. By square space. Enough bs love it
That clip of the phone call got me in the throat. Well done both of you
Wish I was the Carpenter you are. Wish I was the gardener Jess is. Working on both those goals. Best of wishes from beautiful North Carolina.
As someone who started watching this series as you built the door out to the front yard, this recap video was just what I needed. Can't believe you had to take out the chimney 😂
We wish you all the very best in the year ahead in the hope you keep enjoying your work process. The channel has taken on a life of its own that must be hard to keep harnessed, but magnificently grounded you remain. We appreciate the hard work going into video production and the vast generosity in giving 366,000 households a window into your lives. It’s a treat to see your home and garden evolve step by step. You give us back to back video gems and introduce us to natty tips and new tools. It may well be that you are sparking a global DIY community into action. There will be expanding home workshops worldwide and it’s helped us handy people become more handy. Our own workshop benefits from your superb tool reviews; many nifty items have been purchased this year. It’s all so darned valuable. Just keep doing what you are doing but it’s a relief to hear you might let yourselves have more down time in order to keep life balanced. No need to fall over! It’s not a mouse wheel.
UA-cam and Major Sponsors keep that support coming so this great team can sustain this quality of delivery and intense work pace; so more people learn about their DIY options, pick up new tools and see furniture and fit out innovations. For pity’s sake UA-cam this couple deserves an award.
Thank you Jess, Scott, Ray, Gaston, sponsors and your wider support teams. Jules and John, Windwhistle.

If the other comments about the window piston dampers don’t work, try extending them to their fullest and once extended turn clockwise/counter clockwise to increase/decrease pressure. House looks great
The early part of this video made Jess look like a demolition expert!
Amazing how much work went into restructing the house, work that won't be seen but definitely makes the home a stronger one.
Well done on great videos. This has been a great series to watch. More work to come?
only just found you recently but have watched everything retrospectively. Like a soap opera
I can't believe I've been watching you remodel your house for 2 years. And, yes I was watching you well before you all decided to move to the South Island. I guess time flies when you're have fun?
Your channel is basically electronic Xanax. I don't know what it is. Good job.
A 'reflection/recap' video really helps to capture the amazing amount of work Ray has achieved :) Kudos to you all.
Even as an avid viewer, I completely forgot about the chimney removal.
Same. Even after being reminded of it, I completely forgot what an ordeal it was.
Well done Scott., Jess Et al. This is my favourite channel on UA-cam and I love watching the progress. As I’ve said before, your demonstrations and demeanour has inspired me to tackle many jobs on my own home. Just last night I was hanging my third door in the basement and each time I was banging in a shim… I kept on saying “but can he hang a door” 😂😂😂 Keep up the great work!Cheers from Victoria, Vancouver Island Canada
"Absolutely blown away by the incredible journey you've documented over the past 1.5 years! Your work is stunning, and I've been eagerly following your progress. The new home looks beautiful, and I hope you both enjoy every moment in it. Your dedication to the project is truly inspiring, and I'm excited for what the future holds. Taking a break is well-deserved, and I hope you had a fantastic festive season. Looking forward to more amazing content from you both in 2024! 🏡✨"
I have been renovating a "normal" UK Brick 1930s house for the last 2 years and found you when you built the deck. I love your videos Scott and genuinely look forward to them every week. My wife and I have been through most of the back catalogue and are both looking forward to the journey continuing!
I have wanted to do renovations on this house we are in…here in Takanini. But…alas, nothing has ever gone to plan. Every handyman or service person we have had in this house has been such a slack arsed service person. Wanted to move once I realised we wouldn’t be re-doing the house…but Auckland holds a grip on us🤦🏻♀️…if I won Lotto I would be gone…you two are living my dream. Thank you for sharing😊
After 8 months of me renovating 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and living room, my wife lost her shit, she had enough, she could not deal with living in our house in a state of renovation.. suuuureely you guys are as well after 2 years of constant change!
love those subtle integrations of the squarespace ads…
You guys are my favourite creators on UA-cam, love the quality of your work keep it up 👍
Far out… what a segue to Squarespace. Brilliant 🙌. Didn’t see that coming. Soooo goood ❤
Loved the segue into the Squarespace advert. Brilliant.
Time flies by. Already two years. So much work done, so much achieved. You can be proud of your work. It was a joy to watch not only you, Scott and Jess, but also all the helping hands. And you did it the right way with a lot attention to detail. All the best to you.
I applaud your craftsmanship!👏🏾
Thanks for the recap. Be slow this year. You both have already accomplished more than enough.
I was just thinking….i’ve not seen a Scott Brown update for some time, then…voila an update came in!!!
Finish it flip it, and do it all again - and keep the videos coming!
Gas Springs are usually available in different load ratings. A lighter load rating would likely open with a bit less enthusiasm.
Missed you guys. I hope you had a great festive season and enjoyed your well deserved break.
So much work in a thorough restoration, as opposed to a cosmetic renovation. Well done my friend!
That was a segue I was not expecting or prepared for. Like a brick to the face!😂
Well done to you both & team effort. Nelson is lucky to have you.❤
Love the series. Depending on the struts, you should be able to adjust the amount of gas that is in them. Don't take out too much because you'll have a hard time putting gas back in.
Looking good, loved the soundtrack🪚
I always fast forward through anybody’s in video commercials except for yours simply because Jess’s Segway to the commercial is always awesome.
Oh ya , the rest of the video pretty good too .
Great Editing - Glad you are taking a decent break - well deserved. Looking forward to the projects in 2024, taken at a more relaxed pace perhaps!!
Wow, what a lot of work guys! Firstly on the actual house, then on all the editing to create this video. I hope you are enjoying your new space away from the city. I loved the little hints of why you moved; birdsong and stunning vistas.
My husband and I lived in Auckland in 84-86, with one of our children being born in 1984 while we were there. She turns 40 this year so she has planned a trip back with myself, her daughter and one of her sisters. Now I want to include Nelson as one of our destinations as you have shown it to be a beautiful place.
We live in a rural town in Western Australia. We also reconfigured our house like you did. The mess was so worth it for the ‘new’ house we now have.
Square space segue is the best yet. Fought me off guard!
I have always loved your videos, and music. Sometimes when I would build something, I'd put it on and talk in my best New Zealand accent (which was not great)! I haven't watched for a long time, and was delighted to see that you just posted this big video 2 days ago! Great timing! I don't think you can adjust those struts, but I think you can swap them out for less powerful ones! Simples fantastic work! It is beautiful, and having access to the inside kitchen in something I am going to try on my coming remodel! CHEERS!
I have a new build (have renovated two older properties but not to this extent!!! so have felt the pain of endless painting, doing flooring and ripping out kitchens and bathrooms, never had to knock any walls down tho!) and I keep complaining about the open plan living in my new build and there's no separation between kitchen dining and living..... this video has just made me so grateful for my open plan living!!! and the beams that must be in my roof!!!! I will stop contemplating putting a wall up 😂
best squarespace transition yet!
Gotta be your best Segway yet. 🎉
I’ll never get over your pronunciation of deck. And it is even better as I just drove past a grocery store called Giant that was right next to a popular American sports store.
Jokes aside, Scott and Jess are an inspiration. Ups and downs, working through it all in small steps, and not glossing past the slow parts like a cable network show would. Really shows how attainable DIY is, and balances timeline expectations.
One tends to forget over time how much work has actually been carried out on the house, garage and garden. You guys have nailed it, Stretch included 😂 and I'm so looking forward to the rest of the renovation. Hope you both had a lovely holiday season. 😊😊
You guys have done an amazing job so far… hubby and I have watched every exciting episode and can’t wait to watch more❤
That sponsor segue was slick. Congrats on the home Scott, you and Jess did a lot of work on it, and the home is looking great. Well done
Has it been two years already? Time flies when you are having fun indeed! This has been an amazing, entertaining and informative journey. Here's to a new great year of building and creating your dream home!
I’ve been watching you renovate for 2 years 😳
I forgot how much work you’ve put into this place. Amazing job Scott, as always.
Must've been trippy making this video! you guys have made a lot of changes in the last 3 years! Its been a lot of fun to follow along
I've been following you since before you moved from Auckland and have loved watching you modernise and improve the house.
You've done an awesome job so far and it's been interesting seeing how differently you do things to how they're done here in Scotland.
Can't wait to see it fully finished and no doubt you're looking forward to a well earned rest at that point too!
Great job, both of you, and not forgetting Ray too! 👏🏻
Your kitchen is killer. Love you guys!
Congratulations guys, the house looks great! Scott, you might want to consider taking up carpentry as a occupation. Ha ha! Good job guys!!!
I would love to see you get out of your comfort zone and build a custom couch! awesome journey.
Here in NH we would never use so many posts on the deck, because digging holes is difficult and unpredictable due to rocks and boulders, and because we have to dig 48" for frost heaving. We can't use augers due to the rocks. We always minimize how many holes and just end up sizing up beams and joists. What you did makes sense given your situation.
Scott and Jess, the work you've put not just into the house, but also the garden is amazing and thank you for bringing us on your journey. May 2024 be a fruitful as the last two years and looking forward to seeing the progress. All the best to the both of you from the UK.
Nice summary of the work done so far - It has been a bit of a marathon for you guys not to mention all the time you also had to put aside to document it all. Sit back now and enjoy a well-deserved break.
cant believe ive been watching you do the house for 2 years. let alone all the way back to episode 18!
Every time you guys say “deck” makes me smile keep up the good work 😂❤
For the last few years I have watched every video you put out and this is such a fun way to reminisce on some of those old videos. Love following your journey! Inspires me and my wife to dream about our future home together.
Scott & Jess,
Check the Kn force on your existing window struts, then you'd need to get a lower force variant. Just be careful, as it needs to support the windows weight when fully open, which explains that initial (Jess) surge when opening out.
Troy
Best renovation UA-cam series, hands down! House looks awesome can’t wait to see the rest ! Cheers
I am so glad to see that as a builder it has taken you two years to get this far with your renovation. My last house took me 4 years to complete it from top to bottom, with no where near the amount of structural work that you have done. It makes me feel good that I could actually complete it in 4 years :)
Hi. It's been great watching your house renovation. I also love your can do attitude. Best regards to you both. Wayne from Cornwall, UK.
What a revelation this renovation has been Scott and Jess. To take a house whos bones were still original, add your touch and make it modern without losing any of its original charm words cannot express adequately. I know your reno is not complete, maybe 60% so far but wow what a transformation. And all on sponsorship, just proves anything is possible. Can't forget those on the side that have helped you get to this point; Stretch, Gaston, Eva and so many more. And yes Scott, both you and Jess need to focus some time on yourselves this year now that you are in a good place. Of course continue but at a more leisurely pace so you can have that work life balance and enjoy the rest of the reno. Can't wait to see your next video (",)
That's impressive. Amount of work done looks like it would be easier to rebuild from scratch. So much done!
Retrofitting of double glazed windows looked really cool.
Looks like consent hell as well - bearing wall, external wall insulation, chimney removal. Since it's 60x high chance of asbestos in floor and eaves as well.
Can't image amount of work that went off screen. Well done completing all this work!
I love this series. I started watching SBC during Covid, and since then it’s marked time for me- I have started and finished my architecture degree, had my first child- and I can attribute a lot of my life over the past years to particular episodes of SBC.
subtitles and the word deck still confirm what my ears hear
also jess is the only person thats on the same tier as LTT for seaways to the sponsor!
cant wait for the old kitchen demo
That's looking fantastic. Well done.
My only concern with that many drawers in the kitchen would be finding stuff. I only have five small drawers in my old kitchen in the house I've lived in for 16 years. It still takes me two or three attempts to get the right drawer when looking for things. 🤣
It’s cool seeing this while i’m busy completely renovating my 100 year old house… it’s still a bit rough living in the garage during winter. But in the end it’ll all be worth it. It’s my first house, and it’s basically going to be my dream house.
Best Squarespace segue ever.
Great progress on the house! My wife and I are in New Zealand from North Carolina on holiday and had a lovely day in Nelson, sadly no Scott or Jess sightings! Can’t wait to see how 2024 shapes up for the channel, keep up the great work!
favourite sponsorship segway yet! :)
Congratulations!! What a marathon. First, Jess it is so lovely to see your gorgeous garden during the long Nova Scotia winter. Cosmos!!!! Second, I nominate that for the most adorable squarespace transition :) cheers and happy new year!
So very pleased for you both. Well done. I shall wear my 'but can he hang a door' t-shirt tomorrow in your honour. Marvellous.
Wonderful video, so well composed. Especially nice for us who have been with you from the beginning (has it been two years?!) It's been great to see you do things that are often not done by the builder, like cabinets and windows. Here in California we aren't allowed to build windows because they have to be certified for energy efficiency. You could but you'd have a time getting site made windows certified. I find it interesting that when you break to eat, you call it Smoko, as if having a smoke is the primary purpose of stopping work--and NZ almost outlawed smoking altogether.
I've started watching this series two episodes after you guys moved here. It's been so satisfying to see the process, and to see somebody who has a lot of experience building things professionally doing something like this for themselves.
Keep making it gorgeous, Love your content.
Awesome recap video! Easy to forget how much you have already done at your home. Excellent work.
If you can't figure out how to relieve the pressure or if you buy weaker ones that can't hold the weight, you may need to position them further out from the pivot point to increase the distance they travel and slow the action down.
Great photography and editing. Congratulations to you both.😊
This like and comment are entirely for the masterful ad transition guys
The kitchen is a masterpiece of art.
can’t believe it’s been 2 years. it’s been fun seeing Jess’ progression as a builder. great work by you guys and everyone that has lent a hand along the way. bravo
a big square space. legendary segue.
I have followed your journey on your new home from the start and if I'm honest it's been a real treat to be able to see the transformation in such a perspective like this. well done you two. can't wait to see what's to come throughout 2024.
That little blue niche looks soo good!
Can't believe how much you've done, feels like the series just started
OMG she does the best sponsor transitions! 😂😂😂
This might be weird, but your vids are like ASMR to me. When I’m a bit anxious or need to chill, this really helps my brain. Wish I was a builder. Sadly will have to make do as a DIY dad! Great work mate, from wet cold grey England.
I never watch retrospective stuff, but this has been great. It's great to see how far you've come. You are great people.
This has been my favorite channel to watch on YT the last 3+ years or so. You both should be extremely proud of yourselves! Excellent work, and thanks for sharing!
Well done guys. I know what it's like renovating an entire home while living in it. It's tough alright. Just don't do what we did and put to much pressure on yourself and try to enjoy the journey some what. Also try not to get into the mindset of always thinking about the next thing and the next thing. Enjoy what each milestone brings you. Keep it up. Love watching you tackle this job. It's inspiring 👍
The journey is real, fixing up your home is a task on it's own that requires grit and determination and your home transformation shows it, Great Job Guys it's looking fantastic on to the next portion for the house.
Thanks
Glad this came up on my feed. What am incredible amount of sweat equity you guys put in the quaint little house looks incredible. I love the minimalist look
