Good presentation - with one misstatement:MB introduced its crumple zones as early as the 1955 W180 220a, and refined the concept over all ensuing models and series.Happy owner of a 1983 500 SEC, and former owner of 16 other Benzes.

Error. 280Se became 300Se not 260Se..The 2.6 engine was used in the w124

There was also a 280 S 2.8 L carburettor engine option early on in the production series.
There was w126 260SE with 160hp as entry model since 1986 until 1991.
Happy owner of a fully equipment 1987 420 sel trough rusty i did alot of welding already

You are wrong - the W126 was not the first Mercedes-Benz car to incorporate crumple zones. The first one were the "Fin TailS"!
