My parents owned a dark blue 1986 Vauxhall Carlton 2.2i CD automatic during the mid 1990s. I loved the car and even got to drive it a few times once I passed my driving test. The Vauxhall Carlton didn't go on sale in the UK until October 1978. However, the Opel Rekord was also on sale.
My first car in 2004, a 1979 2.0s de luxe. Very nice to drive and reliable, downsides where rust and fuel consumption/prices in Holland. Had it for 3 years, but the '91 Vectra 1.6i after that was a giant leap ahead.

My dad had a 1978 rekord after giving up on dreadful British cars, it was an absolute revelation after a truly hateful Austin maxi.
