somehow every song that's destinated to be a B-side ends up to be f*cking awesome

Perfect description! I feel this on many of their songs
by the way had some spectacular b-sides. John mentioned in an interview that they considered making it a double album. I think that would've made sense. All these brilliant songs could've been RHCP canon rather than tracks that people stumble upon on the tube.
In there defense this one specific song at least ended up on the Japanese version of the album.
So many bands like to do this. They produce superb b-sides and other unreleased songs and make it extremely hard to find and listen them. Stadium Arcadium is almost a perfect album but I still would have replaced If and Make you feel better with Funny Face and Mercy mercy. Or at least If.

Damn, I've been catching up with a lot of their B-Sides and most of them are better than some of their album tracks
I feel you, but I think it's something like "the grass is greener on the other side". I mean if these B-Sides were on the albums, then the actual B-sides (now album tracks) would be seen as 'better'. But that's my interpretation though ;D I just love all their songs, this being one of my favourite B-Sides. The bridge is sooo beautiful I think "All over the under, the smell of blood and thunder....."

Completely disagree. By The Way is a masterpiece, this song is a funny footnote that is B-Side worthy. Multi grammy award winning producers Rick Rubin and the band seem to agree with me anyway.

By the Way had particularly good b sides. I like Anthony's voice and vocal delivery best on By the Way. Seemed to be at his most in tune too.

Johns harmonies were great before this too.
Basically all of “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” album for a start.
But even before that, “Knock me down” is mixed so johns voice stands out (was supposed to be an equal duet between him and Anthony)

This is really odd. The song has very nice and interesting parts. Although I find the listen quite weird. As though the glue between each part just doesn't stick well.
The transitions are off imo.That said, the chorus and the verses alone are great.
I'm pretty sure that's the reason it wasn't put on the record.
Idk man. Feels like thats the idea of the song you know... then again, its a matter of feeling and interpretation. There are no smooth or noticeable transitions whatsoever.
But it feels like thats how its meant to be u know.
the transitions being 'off' became a big problem after By the Way, imo
WannabeFruFru it’s just an odd song structure. If you look at many of the songs which are on by the way, they are practically all verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus. I would say that this song is just verse chorus verse chorus, with the chorus starting at “All over, the yonder. The smell of blood and thunder.” The solo after that is just a chorus extension/outro.
Or if you wanted to think about it as individuals parts it would seem even weirder with the structure being “Verse - Chorus - Verse - Chorus - Bridge - Verse - Chorus - Bridge”

I think 'Minor Thing' is what this song became, judging from 1:10 to 1:19 which sounds very similar to the "You got your bit part, mozar, hot dart acceleration' bit. It even has 'Infiltration' as one of the words at the end of the line, just like 'Minor Thing'. I think Anthony took this song and altered the lyrics to be about John, keeping the style.

Everyone's like where can I get this song, UA-cam to MP3 works great. If you get a song with decent quality to start(like this one) the MP3 file is actually quite nice sounding. I've done this numerous times with a lot of their B Sides

no way, throw away your television is the one song on By the Way (my favorite album) i don't listen to, this song and either Out of Range or Runaway (both B sides) should of made the cut, in my opinion.
mitch Dragon I think throw away your television is a great song, but the drumming part is awesome, and I'm a drummer so yeah ;p But I feel you, but I would've taken Dosed or On Mercury or something. Great songs but I actually prefer Out of Range/ Time/ Runaway, like you said. Dosed never got to me, I think it's a little over-produced or something :x I like the raw RHCP sound! :)

No. Warm Tape is one of my favorite's on the album. It's on the Japanese version of this album. I don't really think this song fits with the rest of my By the Way. By the Way's too melodic compared to wear this is a very rhythm based, funk song.
