- 2-1-2 Basketball Zone Defense, in this video I give a tutorial about the 2-1-2 Zone Defense and the 2 different ways you can run that zone defense. The first way I show how to run the 2-1-2 Zone Defense is how many Basketball Coaches run the 2-1-2, while the second way is how I run the 2-1-2 which is to allow the middle player, player number 5 to play as high as a 3-2 zone, and as low as a 2-3 zone which will confuse the offensive team.

I ran this defense as a coach for 3 years with very much the same team. Each year we got better and better. By year 3 we were so locked into this zone we went undefeated and won the championship. It’s extremely confusing for an offense because the floater in the middle can offset the weak side at any time. Key is to shift and to make sure that all pass lanes are cut off

Oh yea, thats interesting... up here in Canada the 2-3 Zone is the most common
In the States man is the most common but depending on the situation you’ll see 2-3 3-2 box and 1 or triangle and 2
how would you cover someone from the top of the 3pt line and someone in the mid post waiting for a pass?

How do we cover the shooter
what do you mean? ... you close out with your hands up without jumping
What if they run a 5 out and one of the wings cut
could get some high low action against it if there is some weak side wing cutters

The idea of a zone defense is to force players to shoot, if your playing against a good shooter you may want to play a man to man
How much success has your team had playing man to man defense ?

Many of our opponents are using this annoying zone in our league (second graders).
