  • Match up 3-2 Zone Defense in Basketball, in this video I explain the 3-2 matchup zone defense. A matchup zone defense is when your team plays a man to man defense while guarding a zone on the Basketball court. If you are playing against a team that runs a lot of screen and roll plays or if you play in a league that does not allow defensive players in the league, this matchup zone defense is for your team.

As a Louisville fan, while Rick Pitino was here running the BEST ZONE College Basketball has ever seen I have to point out that if you have a Shooting Big that is very good at the 3 you absolutely can get a GREAT mismatch against any Zone. You just have to move your Shooting Big into position along the Arc to where the Smallest Guards will be the ones defending your Shooting Big. He can shoot over them ALL DAY.
It was the 1 weakness of that Zone and the teams that had that type of player were the ones most likely to beat us the entire time we ran it. You ought to watch footage of that zone and try to figure it out. I finally saw it enough times in person and on TV to figure out that it was actually 4 Zones blended seamlessly into 1 system. The Zone would switch at different points depending on where the ball would go at exact spots on the floor.
I'll give you that the 4th Defense which was a Match-up Zone they would switch to based on how much TIME was left on the shot clock. Sometimes they would not Match-up... sometimes they would match-up with 5 seconds left or 10 or 12 or 15. That would vary from game to game generally.
But I'd like to see you identify the rest on your own. I think you would enjoy that.
