Came here to see how full court press defense using 1-2-2 or 2-1-2 is used and how I can try to coach my team to play against without getting flustered. Such a great video!
Coach Mo if you see this they communicated well, they wasn’t being lazy on defense, they did was they supposed to do, and no one played hero they all played their right positions and right spots and the steals came to them.
Such an annoying press. The best part about is that a defence can sit in it alllll game because it’s not draining at all to play. Being a PG and having to bring the ball up through a safe but effective zone press like this 1-2-2 is tedious and will drain you mentally, that’s when the silly little turnovers start to happen
Man post that championship game defense. I'm pretty sure on back to back to back possession. I saw Nova play man to man, zone, press into a zone, press with traps. I was so confused. I could imagine for players on North Carolina they were too lol. They did an outstanding job in mam to with that heat style defense. by fronting the post and coming over with help on lobs from the weakside. Totally threw a wrench into NC offense.
Yeah but having to detect and react to whatever they're going changing to on the fly isn't easy. Plus with the fact that they're clearly very capable of playing just about every style of defense under the sun effectively and the fact that they've got the jump on you with how they're planning to defend you, it makes it even harder. This becomes especially true from when you're switching from a settled in half court man or zone to then throwing a half court trap at them or then switching to a press.
This place is something I will be using within my team. With the aggressiveness of our 1-2, I think it is a viable play for us to use if our intentions is to force steals and turnovers.
run a 2-1-2 press break. Keep your second guard behind the guy with the ball and your guy in the middle of the floor needs to want the ball. get into the middle and you break the presses down. Being patient is also another large key.
it will not work if you have a no fear point guard who loves to dance. try it on Kyrie or Curry or to the old Jason Williams. 122 press defense will be a joke.
Yeah i use to break teams out of a press after 2 possessions of me leaving the first man in the dust. and crossing the 2 layer with fake passes while keeping my dribble and no looks. I could get down the floor in under 4 seconds easily with my speed. so pressing, was not an option.
It isn't banned. You just don't see teams full court press in the NBA because the guard play is too good. And there is little pressing at the end of games because when teams call a timeout, they take it out of bounds past half court.
Great coaching! Shoutout to my coach, Coach Connors in Fl. " If we miss the shot, regular defense. If we make the shot, full court press!

I'm a coach and were using this defense, We are in the Final guys,, Thanks for this. :)
Donte, JB, & Josh all being on the Knicks is crazy in hindsight! And Mikal’s not too far in Brooklyn….for now👀

If your a hooper and you a played a team that played this defense you know it was a tough day
Exactly probably had 10 turnovers
For the point guard

1:26 was def off nova's foot lmao

I forgot to say thank you for posting!!
+jeebs9 Nova had been doing that the whole tournament though . NC should have been ready to go up against all those defenses.

High Five Heren 2 your team still gonna be trash tho 🤷🏿♂️

Ever hs varsity team should eventually try this press out
Fr ima ask my coach if he thinks varsity and jv can practice this
Shit is beautiful to watch
facts
I'm a coach so thanks for this! Which NBA team runs this the best?
Pelicans for sure
Love this def
Very nice defense

Great video!
1:50 Uh, ref, did you notice that double dribble....
Wow I didn't even realize it either.
Billy Cotton it got passed in it just looks like one
Can you do how to defeat 1-2-2 press?
run a 2-1-2 press break. Keep your second guard behind the guy with the ball and your guy in the middle of the floor needs to want the ball. get into the middle and you break the presses down. Being patient is also another large key.
Stephen Kyrie
Ankle Drew
Late as fuck but literally just set picks and screens
Have a man in the middle of the 1-2-2 to collapse the press and pass out to the open wings.
And BC Marek
We run this in my highschool

That's why there are no full press defenses in the NBA.It's only used in college,HS,and MS because the kids don't know what to do in these situations

@@ReeListicReaLz youre so good man. that's the problem once the ball handler looks down while dribbling, they are very easy to trap.
Yeah. See good ball handlers don’t look down when they dribble.
Real PGs know how to shift the defense.
No body is playing them except NBA players
I'll always be bench if coach plays this formation 💀
The defense is tough but the team score is poor.
Whos here after trade?
🎉
sosbil
💀
0:22 Mikal Bridges btw
Kyrie will cross this with ease.
this is terrible press offense. nba players would murder a press like this.
True. Nova better figure something out for their games against the Western Conference this season.
Really? You think an NBA team would murder a college team? No kidding!!! This is why you don't see NBA teams press. They handle the ball too well.
Tj Mckenzie the 1-2-2 used to be a think around 2k13 but it was banned.

@@thomasmckenzie4584 not the press version, the trap version in half court.
