LOW BUCK, JUNKYARD 5.3L-MAX NITROUS (PULL THE JETS!)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 січ 2020
- FULL RESULTS-JUNKAYRD LM7 NO JETS-JUST OPEN PLATE! WILL IT SURVIVE? What happens when you run a carbed & cammed Junkyard 5.3L with all the nitrous? We ran the 5.3L with a Zex nitrous plate and pulled the Nitrous jet? That's right, we ran the plate with full bottle pressure, no nitrous jet and as much nitrous as the system would supply! Did the little junkyard 5.3L survive? I think I heard it laugh!
If this test had been done with a 302 Windsor, it would have ended with "Man the Mops"
LOL
Mains would have separated from the block, lol
John Parrish why not an old gen 1 ls aka sbc? Probably stand a better chance. Couldn’t you get those with 4 bolt mains at least?
@@1stockcam I think you missed the point, it was a Joke. Everyone knows that with the 302 the test would have ended with all the oil on the floor. Man the Mops.
Get it???
Episode “spray your guts out”
Btw, they already did that test just FYI. 305 sbc croaked around 600 hp. No oil on the floor, just a lot of smoke. Guess you haven’t seen that one yet.
I think the only thing that was missing was the screaming engine, lol!
As always Richard, lots of awesome content. Thank You.
Always enjoyed the content and starting to like this Richard guy.😎
don't fall for it-that Richard guy is a tool!
@@richardholdener1727 I've got a good one for ya. 100% Nitro Methane via meth injection kit. (I dabbled but it was my built vette motor , was too scared to take it very far). Smelled like a funny car every time I got into boost.... and flames.
@@richardholdener1727 He's crazy too. Freak plays with rattle snakes.
Yeah your videos are awsome Richard
richard is single handedly turning everyone into an ls addict.. the man knows his stuff i always try to listen and absorb his info..
Outstanding video!! Thank you for all the great content!! Priceless in my opinion 👍👍👍👍👍
Please keep doing these. The last week of videos have been awesome!
Another great video, Rich. Keep them coming!
Impressive! appreciate the videos you put out, I've learned a lot from you
Awesome video Richard, 630 ft lbs out of 325 cubes, amazing. 👍🏻
You’ve definitely got the best test videos!!
What jet are you running?
4an
........
Berserka Saurus LOL
Berserka Saurus, 😄👍🏻
LOL!!!!!
Hahah yas!
Them: How many hp shot do you estamate that to be...
Me: all of them
I know a guy that has a 1000 hp shot on his LS, the biggest problem he had was finding a bumper hitch strong enought to tow the trailer with the 1000lb bottle on it.
great video , love the nitrous stuff
awesome ! love seeing what this junkyard stuff can handle. I still want to see big bang 6.0 achieve its limit. 👍
Me too
Awesome video, love the content
I would be interested in you doing a video with the same 5.3L with the 750hp nitrous set up, but make a year's worth of racing passes with it to see if it will hold together. How and where it fails would also be good to know so one would know what to upgrade, if necessary. We do a lot of 7.0 index racing here in Houston and this could be a very cost effective solution. Thanks, in advance. Subscribed.
I got a 91 s10 thats been together for a while 5.3 .sloppy stg 2 cam..pac 1218.s.. longtubes.. holley intake.. quick fuel 750..and a nx wet plate kit on the mds.6014..rings are gapped .28 thou. With new lifters and pushrods .new cam bearings didn't need them but did anyway its been on 150 shot forever I just keep fresh tr6 plugs and fresh oil but it's probably 140 to 160 thousand mile motor still running good probably up the jets when I get time to put progressive controller on
And I drive it on the street alot too
5.3s along with Richard's tests FTW! 😆👏🤘
Bro you got the best videos . Plenty of info & setups .
Great content, love to see you compare a mild/wild cam on different displacement motors, 4.8lt, 5.7lt and a 6.2lt. if you can keep the same heads, would be amazing. Thanks. With the goal if finding crazy torque for the street, everything under 5000rpm
Jesus, that would be a hell of a burnout machine, at least before uncle RODney comes knocking
I like your channel i dont know how you dont have thousands of subscribers so much information
jediah barsness he’s just gettin started! Tripled in like a month lol!
HANDS!
I love that you kind of build this thing up with a new cam, springs, nice intake an carb before you basically try to destroy it. Wouldn't mind seeing/ hearing each run though
Really cool video, i basiclly have the same combo just my cam is 240/246 630/615 lift. Cant wait to put some spray to it
Ah, man ... you said "Party Time" ... I thought we were going to see Steve cleaning up the dyno cell :o)
Paulster2 🤣👏
That would be me behind the mop!
WOW.imagin the kick back in seat you get full tilt.👍
Richard, I would like to see if that "Junk Yard" 5.3 could handle some nitro methane fuel and if the numbers would be better than your send it tune?. Imagine the light show!
Yes!!!!!
66vett00m7 nitro would eat all the gaskets it’s very corrosive you have to use special metal gaskets for nitro meth
Nitro doesn't work as well on wedge head engines, as you have to be able to get massive amounts of fuel in and the valve angles are problematic. It would make power, no doubt. But the numbers would probably not be what you'd expect.
Think of it this way, there are a shitload of guys who spend BIG money to get the best results in competition. Top Fuel rigs universally use hemi headed engines... there's a reason. Even a baby hemi would work better than a wedge head.
Great episode
BEST UA-cam CHANNEL!!!!...............I would love to see a nitrous SBE 5.3L test
this was that test, right?
You really have the best job! Hey how about a short vid on some of your cars/builds??
This is so excellent!
Awesome! Now get to testing the ss2 for matt lol.
Damn a good cam an intake and it made 450 ho that's awesome 😮
😂 awesome test!! Wow.... 😯 😂
Just picked up a 1987 mercury cougar I want to build into a drag car and this will be my first engine setup. Ls carbed on nitrous oxide.
Love it!!!! Although I didn’t like the results from your boosted LS with NO2 intercooler video. I had hoped it would work better because I don’t have room for an intercooler
it works-but more as the power adder and not the cooler
Yes sir. I NEEDED it to work as an intercooler
This was awesome, only thing I wish you guys would have done is at the end of testing, run the nitrous like a car would on the track and see if the rings would butt or not. Otherwise, great job!
Enjoy the junk yard stuff. Amazing the power you get from these with so little effort. I noticed the numbers before the nos. Do the fuel injected setup make the same power?
they make more than this intake
I Love dyno experimental tests!
With all those movements and constant hand gestures I thought he was going to try and sell me a sham wow at some point.
Brock Taylor same 😑
Breaking news....
This just IN every you pick it yard Across America is totally out of stock on 5.3 LS engines. They sold out faster than AR-15s when Obama went in office. Great test keep it up!
That’s the best analogy ever.
how close would this engine be na hp wise with the stock induction system ? Thanks for your work !
Richard I know this isn't n2o related but I know many ppl would like to hear what you think about quick spool valves. Have you ever measured back pressure vs boost? I know my fc rx7 came with a cool one from the factory where the valoutes were different sizes. Remember it working okay for an 80s turbo with a carbon seal lol.
wonder how much my gen 4 aluminum motor with ported heads and ring gapped forged piston motor could handle , im going to hit it with 350 on a fogger very soon
Love to see a tunnel ram with dual carbs and dual plates.
LS with an 8-71 would be cool too.
Too much. These baby motors don’t even like a 750 carb
And suggestions on a good nitrous cam for a gen1 style 434 sbc. Dart aftermarket block brodix heads with a ton of spray it use to be street driven slot an make crusies before races but we put a hydraulic roller for the street friendlyness of the cam. But were going full race motor with it and was womdering if u had any suggestions on a good viloent solid roller nitrous cam. For a 434sbc.
That’s insane!!
How do the perimeter plates compare to the stinger plates? That’s about the only difference in the 5.3 I’m putting together from this one?
Correct me if I am wrong but I would have thought you have to add more fuel with the N2O? Wouldnt not doing that cause it to be lean?
Price on 5.3's just went up again.. lol
Enjoyed the video I have a quick question individual distribution is better what would you consider a downdraft injection hilborn crawler or the newer type today adding nitrous to 8 individual ports
individual port nitrous should offer the best distribution for any intake type
Gosh noo I wanted to see the torque😩 Anyways a good test, pretty cool that this very close to stock, high mileage 5.3L hung in there with stock ring gap and no jets lol. And ps. for anyone confused on what’s what on the graph, if it’s a regular four stroke 4-6-8 cylinder then look at the lower left hand corner of the graph and HP should be on bottom and TQ on top. Follow the lines up from there. Also torque curves are generally more flat while power curves generally rise with rpm as HP is a function of torque & RPM.
no... it's a byproduct not a function
This is the knowledge we all want to know.
Can you post your carb settings please? Pri/Sec Squirters and Pri/Sec Jets? Ive been struggling with exactly the same setup and finally got it running ok with the 50cc accel pump kit
What is the orifice size in the nitrous solenoid?
With no jet, that's the max that system will flow unless the plate itself becomes the restriction.
Also, quick question......How did you get the nitrous line to seal without the jet? Since the jet is in fact the tapered surface that the line seals to....or did you just use an enormous jet? Like a .120
Richard, why are these nitrous spikes on this engine nice and smooth and roll over into a flat power band, compared to other engines, where its a peaky spike and then goes only down on power on other nitrous hits?
Big Block all the way. (Mopar)
I don't care if it does lose I'm 50yo, not afraid to add pistons/rods/heads if required to hang, AND BBs are what dreams are made of. 😜
BBs and Cast Iron all day every day.
I'm a little surprised it didn't break a ring land.
Spraying at 6k rpm helps keep pistons alive.
@@shitbox7413 makes sense
Old ass engine probably has a lot of ring gap. I took apart a junkyard 351w last year that had .040”... I bet this ls is close to .030” to do what it did
I've pulled apart dozens and dozens of them (I get 3-4 a weekend some times) never see one near .030 when it comes apart (.014-.022) usually
How about running some of these tests on the 4.3 LV3? Those have 6 bolt mains too don't they?
Awesome just what was asking about in the last video and what do the timing curve look like na
na this motor ran 30 degrees of total and near 20 on the nitrous
I have the exact same stainless toolbox with a lot of stickers.lol. wish I could share a pic of it.
How much power can you make with all junkyard parts. No fancy cam or aftermarket intakes just junkyard gold?
Time to add a second stage without jets
Man that’s awesome
Cam, springs, headers, ignition, single plane intake...resulted in over 450 hp from a 327 cube engine.....I love LS motors.
Not really. If it were in a car you wouldn't even see 400 whp with cam, full boltons and fuel injection.
Crank HP is for the birds.
I was raised a mopar guy through and through but damn a junk yard ls making indy headed stroker big block mopar numbers on a factory setup is making me want to sell the mopar power plants and ls swap!
its a 10th the money for more reliable power, pop a bottom end, throw a new one in.i LOVE mopars but they are pricy as hell
Grab’em all!!!
Would love to see some turbo 302 Windsor stuff on an unopened motor
Che Cables I think we’ll see a lot of ls stuff mainly because like Richard says, 700+ on an unopened engine, get as many of them from the junkyard as you can, while you can. Can’t really beat that.
Might even be easier than finding a 302 anymore.
What I’ve been wondering lately myself though, is the 289.. little less rotating weight. For that reason Is it actually more capable than a 302 when pushed?
Finally! Someone reputable to confirm what I have been telling my friends about Dry EFI manifolds and a throttle body setup. Thanks Richard! I do wonder how long it would last in a car running the full 1/4 with a real load on it maybe that can be next?
What have you been saying?
? Have you tried higher octane fuel with higher NOS charges?
A comparison would a great test.
Will you ever do a test on the btr stage 4 truck cam?(i kno you did stages 1 2 and 3
SEND IT!!!
I'd like to see how much further it can go!!!! Can you take pistons out to do ring gap and put them right back in without doing anything to cylinders? Just have to resize rods for new bolts right?
we never change the rod bolts-even at 1543 hp!
we never change the rod bolts-even at 1543 hp!
I kind of did this same test on the track. Car would run 9.70s on 250 shot, then went to a 300 shot and only went .12 faster, then pulled the jet and went the same. I think the limiting fator was the -4 an line
Great video. What year was the engine? Did you have to do an AFM or VVT delete.? New lifters? What head castings? Thanks.
all stock stuff-gen 3 with no AFM or VVT
Do you have to use a 6010 ignition box or can it be 6012?
This channel is cool but I wanna see the actual runs not just the Graf's all the time !! We wanna hear that SOB rumbling!!!
Man 770 HP plus wow bro than is great and what about to TQ ?
7:11-7:29 hello Mr brule'
I love how these "junk" LS engines can handle almost anything you can throw at them. The LS is all the proof I need that Ford should have stuck with pushrods. Needless to say, I'm a big believer in the "K.I.S.S." principle, which is why I'm not a cammer fan.
Honestly Ford did right with DOHC because it brings almost endless cam possibilities at any given point as well as allowing a broader power band. A DOHC just has longer chains and more direct cam so it's honestly pretty similar in the simplicity aspect. As much as I hate saying it Ford built the superior engine, and if cams were cheaper and if we could tune the cam timing indefinitely then we could have a 12,000 RPM street engine.
@@josephfigueroa3527 That may be true, but it's still expensive, complicated stuff. GM has proven it isn't needed to have fun with a street car. Trust me, I know the Coyote is an excellent design, but you will never sell me one. Besides, it seems Ford is coming out with a 6.8 pushrod engine for the Mustang and F-150 for 2023 at the latest. Apparently someone at Ford feels the same way I do.
@@jimanastasio192 again it's just as simple as a push rod if not simpler, you do gotta get 3 cams so there is that but otherwise value is set by the people who yank them out of junkyards.
I like the videos but maybe start showing some of the work you do on the motors, and videos of them running in the dyno.
Here's a test: can Richard talk without flailing his hands?
Hahaha
Throwing my hands up and saying what are you talking about!!??!!!
Nope, me either!
I fail that test every day!
Monster RAM, F no he can’t, that’s what he does. 😎🤘
When you showed a picture saying that you replaced the valve spring, the picture showed offset intake rocker arms. Those would be LS3 style correct? LM7 weren't rectangular port, they were cathedral port, so what's going on?
Stock footage lol
don't analyze video details,just watch
Add another nitrous kit!!!!!! Stack the plates!!!! How many can a junk yard LS take?
I wonder how far that plate would go on E85. Due to the restricted fuel flow would it make less hp? Ive done a lot of nitrous with E98 on our cars and it obviously demands more fuel flow. Might have to break out the drill set lol.
the fuel supply was not the problem-plenty of fuel flow left
Party on !!!
May I ask why so much LSA? With so many tests showing less separation producing more power I’m genuinely curious what made this cam the chosen one
Why spraying it later in the rpms each time 6200 ? Trying to save the amount of nitrous used, or scared of it blowing up ?
Richard I have a question when you did these test and cam swaps on the junk yard motors do you replace the cam bearing or just install the cams and run them
use stock bearings
@@richardholdener1727 thank you so much for your feedback back it really shows how much these junkyard motors bearings can hold up to abuse i really appreciate it and love your videos
You have the best job ever! Y’all hiring?
Technically I don't have a job-so are you hiring?
@@richardholdener1727 move on over here to Lexington Kentucky and I'll put you to work at the first of the week. It's a lot like mechanic work, you would probably enjoy it

@@shitbox7413 wiping down the ceiling would be a shitty job!.
What heads did this have, 706? I'm super impressed that 325cid with heads that flow about 240cfm made 454HP NA with 9.5:1 CR. That tells me if I put a better manifold and rowdier cam in my 5.0, it could make ~425HP at 7000rpm. Though I'm not sure the stock crank would hold up. You've built a lot of 5.0's, what do you think? I've got an XE270HR and TFS TW heads with 10.3:1 CR, so it's more street oriented.
you can make 425+ hp with a 5.0L with the right HCI
@@richardholdener1727 LOL, yes, but I was theorizing about the TFS heads, 170cfm at .200 lift, 255cfm at .500/.600 lift. That CFM would seem to be enough for 400HP+, but I remember when you would put larger port heads on those and they certainly made lots of power. The TW is only 170cc intake, but has "big" valves and good port velocity. It's no matter anyway, I'm not going to rebuild that motor with new parts, it's only 19 years old now ;-)
So if I use Nitrous on my 6.0 Engine, do I need to use a Carburetor intake or I can use the Fuel injected intake, or is there a special Nitrous Intake for Fuel Injected applications?
YOU CAN RUN NITROUS WITH ANY INTAKE
In my opinion this worked well because the cam wanted to breath more and lowered compression with such a big cam seems nitrous likes major overlap camshafts that would make a lazy n/a set up
Nitrous, like other one-sided boost adders, wants more exhaust flow to truly thrive. Superchargers are the same.
One of the issues guys are running into with big shots on perimeter plate systems is reversion.
Great information again Richard thanks so much but I am curious why you’re not grabbing 6 litre engines , are 5.3 tougher for these test or are 6 litre not common ?
the 6.0Ls are much harder to find and more expensive
A what about the 7.0l that's in the Corvettes what else is the 7l in
770 on a junk yard motor and didn’t blow?!? Holy crap
MadVtec YO you gotta remember. The LM7 is an iron block
I don’t know how you don’t have more subscribers . I wonder if you did a car build an did big Smokey burnouts you might get some people’s attention lol.
my first month-if i test-they will come
What did the plugs look like ?
How much or how long do you think the stock ring gaps would put up with a large shot before you put too much heat into the pistons/rings and destroy the motor? not really a test you want to do on the dyno as it would make a terrible mess.
These short runs were not bad, but i like to add ring gap for anything I plan on running a lot
Would love to see you run different engines. Get some 4s, some 6s, import, domestic. Show which techniques work on which engines. Do variable cam timing tuning and report the results. Show some individual throttle bodies and do a trumpet length test.
done lots of that(three books on Honda perf, 1 on Focus)-the trumpet length stuff was cool-lots of Mod Ford & Coyote, BBC, SBC, BBF, SBF, Gen 3 Hemi (not much early) Dodge, lots of Honda, Nissan, Toy etc...
