We make our own attempt at creating Krispy Kreme doughnuts using Bon Appètit's Gourmet recipe, from a series I can't recommend more where Claire Saffitz recreates popular snacks with a gourmet twist. This seemed like something we could achieve, and it's also something we can do whilst we're isolated so check out our fumbled attempts and vote in the comments which one you liked the most!

Title: We Attempt to Make Bon Apètit's Gourmet Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
#HatFilms #KrispyKreme #MakingDoughnuts
Trott is a man who knows a 56g knob when he feels one
Underappreciated comment, right here!
True comedy is always in the comments
I know it's probably his girlfriend filming, but I like to think that Trott just *keeps* Craig
They are one and the same. His girlfriend is Craig with a wig on.
Craig is the hat films class pet
oomf oof mate he’s the photo camera man, he’ll have a tripod for everything.
its mochi
It's obviously Mochi
Ross: best glaze
Trott: best donut
Smith: best design
Hat films: best content

Keep telling your self that
Dead channel
@@Zanbatoss keep that positivity going /s
100% !! Such a good video from our favourite boiks. I definitely want to see more of these
Ross trying to make it seem that his creations were edible was hilarious xD
The commitment! Pretending he enjoyed eating them and then spitting it out off camera 😂
"oh it's not quite focusing in... wierd" I nearly spat out my drink
pretending to hand the rest of it to someone off camera 22:33 genius
I could die for Chris Trott from the Bon Hat-etit Test Kitchen.
If you look up talent in a dictionary, you find a picture of Chris Trott.
trott's looked the best, smith's process was the most personally relateable, and ross made me laugh the hardest, breathing in the powdered sugar like he did
Ross was consistently funny
Trott not only showing the others up with his doughnut-making skills, but also whipping out his outstanding levitation and ventriloquism skills for good measure. Bravo.
Watching Ross in the kitchen is an absolute joy. I'd watch him make out of date food any day of the week.
trott being so blissfully unaware and supportive of ross's donuts.....
While ross is silently dying with every bite he takes
So relatable what Ross did: forgetting you're supposed to be halving /doubling (etc) half way through 😂
I would say Trott won but he did have his carer helping him so it'll have to go to Smith
Yeah, Mochi is pretty good at keeping him out of trouble
@@MrSpannners real good camera work for a dog
Could you imagine Brad from Bon Appetit with the boiks. That would be wild.
MANGOOO!
Only if Hunzie does the editing.
@@LoicReviews It has to be legit Brad style video! Delaney walking past and then a spot of noodling.
Delaney!!!
@@lyndonduke DELANEY.
When I get really depressed I come here and watch this.
This helps. They help. Thank you.
Trotts were definitely the best mechanically, though I was more enamored with Smith's process, and Ross' were fucking inedible. Trotts also got a cool fridge
Yeah Trott’s looked the most edible, but there was something oddly charming about how invested Smith was in the process. Also, that spotted dick.
Yea something about watching smith work was really like.. Relaxing? I dunno how to describe it.
I do believe that's the point of a fridge. To be *cool.*
Can't believe Trott did that all by himself! Without any assistance at all!
Impressive!
I think one of my fav moments is when he levitates the spatula out of the glaze, hehe.
Helen is the real winner! For both doughnuts and Trott-wrangling skills
She seems very skilled at keeping him under control. Even now that they’re stuck in isolation and he is sure to be extra Trottish. Maybe she has successfully adapted the methods used to train Mochi?
I have to ask: who is Helen? For those of us that are not in the know... including me lol.
@@N1GHTH4WK986 Trott's partner.
Jacob Hayden Ty. Didn’t want to assume.
@@jacobhayden439 Wasn't he dating Katie?
I feel complicit in Ross's lie.
Okay so, I worked in a doughnut shop for three years so I think I'm qualified to judge the quality of doughnuts. Once Smith got his oil at the right temperature his were okay, his only issue was that his batter had too much liquid, which is why the doughnuts warped.
Ross was just a little bit hopeless, but he was working with what he had. It probably tasted horrible because he didn't whisk the liquid ingredients and the egg didn't evenly incorporate, there was too much yeast, and when you mix dough that has butter in it with your hands the fat from the butter gets absorbed into your skin so it takes away a lot of the moisture, which is why it turned out really hard and dense even though there was a lot of yeast, and the out of date flour probably didn't help, I hope he checked it for mites.
Trott's were perfect, hands down, cannot fault them, Trott wins, 10/10.
you cant over yeast so if your halving a recipe and it calls for half a packet just use a whole one. ross did the best on the dough which is the hard part, his rise was good and he probably could've finished them in the oven to cook them through.
@@Ratbagsocialist Honestly I never made donuts with yeast so I probably don't know what I'm talking about in that regard, just because we deep fried the donuts straight after we mixed the batter, which made it fluffy enough with the air incorporated that way, but his doughnuts looked like ours did if we didn't put enough liquid in the batter. I think you're right though, Ross' would have been good if they'd been baked.
I appreciate the analysis but Trott May have maybe got a touch of help, maybe.
So he might be disqualified.
That moment Ross realized all his stuff was expired
That moment Ross realized he was supposed to be halfing
Love Ross trying to BS that his doughnuts were tasty, while the other two were commenting on how good their own was lmao.
GoPro stop Overheating!!
GoPro, PLEASE!
Hat Films and Claire Saffitz. ‘‘Tis a beautiful day!
A beautiful pairing
i am SO here for this kind of content
Smith subtly flexing the le crueset pan, such a wealthy boi
Trott not even being subtle with the fridge flex
@@cognitiveTrifurcation sorry but that fridge is £2000? damn
“Are any of my ingredients in date?”
Madman3721 that bit had me laughing so much! Ross is such a great boik!
this is why we relate to the lads.
Watching the lads trying the complex math of halfing ingredients is endlessly entertaining hahah
I LOVE THIS! Definitely would love to see more cooking/baking challenges. Though I guess it is a bit tricky to compare the results. Maybe try out some different arts and crafts projects? For example some of those miniature room build kits or learning to knit and see who can make the best hat.
ross is literally me cooking anything. and then pretending like i did it perfectly in front of other people
The reason a lot of recipes from the us specify kosher salt is because standard table salt in the us has iodine salts so it tastes different, for baking in the uk just use table salt as it'll dissolve anyway so using larger flaked salt is a waste of a more expensive ingredient.
I vote Trott wins they looked like they tasted good and they all looked good plus the additional flavour 10/10
I mean, Trott's doughnuts came closest to what I'd say Claire Saffitz from the Bon Appétit test kitchen made.
Gotta give Smith and Ross credit for doing it with electric hops and no good way of telling the temperature, though.
TheRealDerohneNick also a woman helped Trott so he’s a cheating BASTARD...I know I’m a woman. We know all about food and bakery and such we were born with it.
If you have a induction hob I would say it is better than gas though.
@@ColeCorvin You'd be wrong, but it's definitely closer to gas quality than basic bitch electric for sure.
I definitely think trott won, but I would definitely love to see more of this kind of thing it was so much fun to watch :)
The Crossover I didn't know I desperately needed! Good job booiks
This was actually amazing. Hat cooking NEEDS to be a series :D
This is a grand solution to this isolation predicament, nice vid boikz
Smith: knows what to do, has most of the materials, doesn't care enough to put in 100%
Ross: kinda knows what to do, has about half of the tools needed, tried his best
Trott: had no idea what to do, winged it, got 100 on the quiz by accident.
Smith's beard is becoming more powerful than him.
Trott won the doghnut trophy, Smith won the comedy trophy and Ross won our hearts. And kinda bonus comedy trophy for that tasting part.
Please do more of the vlogs, even simple ones like Smith talking about his wizzard-lizzards.
Watching Ross try to stomach completely raw dough while the other two are praising the whole group is hilarious. You can see him die inside everything it touches his tongue.
Awww Ross, it's not that bad. I was pretty amazed that you guys didn't have dead yeast. You did pretty great in general! Maybe try just making smaller shapes in general next time?
"The metric system _is_ superior" c'mon guys, we're British, we use a nonsensical and confusing combination of both.
hahah yeah, at least we don't measure liquids in grams...
@@TheHarleyEvans As long as a recipe is at least consistent, looking up the measures and converting in this day and age isn't that hard. Besides, certain liquids like honey are not exactly well-fitted for liquid measuring, so it actually makes decent sense to measure less-flowing liquids in grams.
@@TheHarleyEvans I kinda hate to be the one to tell you this but 1ml of water is a gram because of how our measurement system works 1cm^3 of water is 1ml and weighs 1g
@@Umicron_ volume changes with atmospheric conditions, cold water is more volumous than room temperature water. tap water with disolved chemicals is also a different volume per gram than mineral or distilled water.
Despite metric being based around an aquatic 1:1:1 system, temperature and pressure are also factored in
@@TheHarleyEvans yeah I assume it's room temperature at pressure of 1atm because water is a funny thing where water can be denser than ice because hydrogen bonds, I think water is densest at like 4°C? Which is weird and I love it
Definitely voting for Smiffy on this, though Trott's looked amazing as well. I can't believe he did them all by himself, with no help whatsoever!
Ross's Doughnuts: Looks great, tastes like a bin liner.
Trott's Doughnuts: Looks decent, tastes like too many dog hairs added to the recipe.
Smith's Doughnuts: Looks chonkers, tastes like... *does soy boy face* ... pretty good.
Trott won the moment presented a Biscoff coated doughnut. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen!
This was fun to watch! It's interesting to see you guys in your natural habitat instead of the recording room. Even though you're not in the same room the great editing makes it consistent enough that it didn't bother me at all.
I'm sure there are many more 'quarantine hobbies' you guys could try out.
must say ross was absolutely hilarious in this one
Holy hell, I almost thought this was a Bon Apétit video.
i would die for hat films from the Bon Appetit test kitchen
"it's still out of date?" As if it was supposed to changed date 😂
You three really deserve more views and subs. I honestly can't stress it enough. The chemistry between you three and the sheer work and effort you all put in to making videos is always amazing. You're all hands down one of the best channels on UA-cam and I hope one day you all get the recognition you deserve. Every video I am always amused and don't feel the need to turn it over halfway through. Never change x
Trott is the winner hands down. Even though i wanted Ross to win
on another note, this was one of my favorite videos by you guys. Not as crazy as some others but I think that approach of you just doing something for the fun of it with a tad bit of clumsiness is all it takes to make a great hat films video.
If you want a much more even looking glaze without leaving most of it on the plate, make the glaze up as you're cooking the doughnuts. After you take them out of the oil, as soon as they're cool enough to not burn you dip them halfway into the glaze and move them around a little (to get it up the sides a bit). Because they're hot they heat the glaze making it runny so it applies a thin even layer (you don't want the glaze thick, it's very sweet) and you don't waste a whole lot on the plate.
Yes. More of these. This is totally making my weekend.
Love how smith and trott were absolutely loving their doughnuts while Ross was having to spit his out off screen
Really loved this one boys, Ross gets my vote just for the dedication to continuously putting raw dough in his mouth
Everyone is saying that Trott should win but it looked like his oil wasn't hot enough the grease was soaked through 2/3's of that doughnut. His temperature gauge was sitting on the bottom of the pot so it is likely he got an incorrect read. I'd say Smith definitely won this. Extra points for creative shapes too.
Smith: "are you guys getting coconut?"
Ross: (spits out doughnut) "mmm mmmmm"
lmao this should be good 😂
Gotta go with Trott on this one! And please do more of this while in quarantine, it was hilarious!
Please do so many more of these!!! They are so fun to watch
Ross: agonising over his lack of a frying basket to remove the doughnuts
Trott: *stick*
Watching Smith’s point of view is literally just another How to Basic video.
"I think i might deep-fry everything now"
Congrats Ross you're an american now
I think Ross is the clear winner. He did it all by hand, has the nicest camera and has the best poker face.
Crisp Trott may have had help, and Ross had me until they were raw haha so its gotta go to smiffy boik.
more cooking please boiks
Big fan of this chaps, nice to see something different and a glimpse into home life
I love how each of their filming styles exactly mirrors their normal vlogs: Ross is the one who normally has the camera and gets the good angles and whatnot which is the same for this vid, trott is being filmed by his girlfriend as if he were being filmed by Ross, and smith somehow got a hold of the camera while Ross wasn't looking and didn't know what to do with it! I loved this video, I would truly appreciate if you guys are able to do more. Ross discovering that all his ingredients were out of date, and Trotts floppy whisk were definitely highlights for me, I don't think I've laughed this hard since isolation started. Keep up the great work boiks!
I would quite happily watch more of these, Ross had me in stitches with that icing sugar
more of this please
Really really loved this! if you guys get time to do this kind of stuff more, that would be amazing!!!
Love this!! Also trotts kitchen is beautiful???!!
Haven't watch hat films in 4 years. Good to see them again
Smiths got a real isolation perk with those lizards 😍👀💯
I don't like the implications of those emojis
😂😂😂 Looking back
I enjoy watching footage of people who don't cook trying something this complex. It gives me hope that other people watching them who don't know how to cook will see this and be encouraged to try it on their own without the anxiety that a lot of non-cookers experience.
Trott had the best donuts by far.
Ross made something that I've seen referred to as yeast rings, so it was a near hit.
Smiff did alright.
Finally two of my favorite channels mix (pun intended) together. Excellent video as always boiks
we definietly need more of these challenge videos
Trott is living like an Arabian prince compared to the others thanks to the High rollers money, innit 😆
It's been a while since I've watched a hat films video and it honestly feels like visiting old friends
I can't think of any other UA-cam content that makes me laugh like the Hat boys
Definitely do more of this type of stuff
I'd say Trott won this one pretty fair and square. Ross' were uncooked which pretty much disqualifies him and Smith's were alright, but unexceptional. Anyway loved the new style of video and I'd love to see more from you boys in quarantine doing group tasks and challenges while apart. Baking more stuff or anything else you guys think of
1, really digging Smith's quarantine beard
2, the dough timelapse is interesting!
3, it's ok Ross, ya tried! I would eat them, raw or not!
4 Trott is the clear winner, but honestly I would eat all of theirs
Why does Ross have grandma kitchen curtains
It’s rented lol
@@hatfilms they're very pretty Ross xoxo
@@hatfilms Since when do rented apartments not allow you to switch out curtains, usually they don't even come with curtains to begin with.
@@rdizzy1 depends how much you care. I rarely did any decorating when I rented. Seeing as you have to get the right measurements for each window, odds are that you won't be able to use them in the next place.
@@DaveLowe28 I just always bought (and still do) cheap shitty white walmart blinds to toss up and a cheap set of curtains, a lot of apts come with curtain rods already so. Cheap and easy, and don't have ppl staring into my windows.
The plants in Trott's kitchen are AMAZING! I spent a lot of the video enjoying gawking at how perfectly healthy and thriving they were.
get these legends to 1M
I'd love to see more of this kind of thing.
Do more BA stuff. This was hilarious. And definitely do one when youre all together again, can't keep waiting a year for Pancake Day
Yes, we want more like this!
oh good i was worried you wouldnt upload during the quarantine luckily being able to see trott in highrollers
Would love more of these
Oh Ross, Never chnage buddy, Love this kind of stuff
Definitely do more of these.
Thank you Ross for that Sunny reference
I don't like glazing/frosting so Trotts alternative donuts win by default. But Ross get's bonus points for timelapsing the raising dough. That was a nice touch! 👌
I cannot believe Ross didn't even break the yolk oooof
Trott’s looked amazing! Loved the video, do more!!🤩
Trott's donuts actually looked quite good. Ross' were clearly the worst
Would love to see more of this content! Keep up the good work, and keep safe lads!
I mean technically i would vote trott but as he is in a happy relationship i vote smith!
Yes do more!
Would love some more of this please lads!
