@Milofchg 0 seconds ago This has been the BEST advice for starting off collecting watches or just getting into watches. NO WATCH UA-camR has ever said. “Buy affordable watches pre-owned because affordable watches lose value” Thank you 🙏🏼 it’s about time someone said it. Also mechanical watches need repairs every 5-10-15 years. If you buy a Seiko at $350 new… it’s really worth $200 used. The price of a basic watch service minimum $350. So if you’re sitting on a bunch of cheap watches. Is it really smart to pay more than what that watch is worth in service? If your Rolex is worth $12K it will be valued close to or more than $12k in 5-15-20 years. One service at $700 to refurbish your Rolex back to new condition plus a 2-5 year warranty? What makes more sense?
You don't have to be rich to have a watch collection. I have over 50 watches from Invicta, Casio, Timex and some inexpensive Seiko's and I didn't even spend more than $1,000 over last 20 years...
I only buy Rolex watches. I have a two-tone Sky-Dweller in steel and yellow gold that I wear daily, a tone-on-tone Datejust with jubilee strap, fluted bezel, and diamond dial that I wear for business meetings or when I'm a little dressier, a white gold Cellini with black leather strap that I wear for formal events, and a yellow gold Day-Date that I wear when I want to impress. I'd still love to own a Daytona and the new 1908 both in platinum. For me it just doesn't get any better than Rolex.

@@JRS-j9m All my money is going towards a down payment on my first home, but I'd be content with just a BMW M340i X-Drive. Perfect daily, and also great for road trips. Being responsible and getting the house first is no fun at all.
@@WeavingMocha A home is more important than a car, especially since you are just starting off. I'm taking it you're young (early 20's) and you'd like to be able to run before you can walk. We've all been there. Just don't get overburdened with debt right now. Prioritize what really matters and just keep grinding. You will get to a point you can afford what you want. Also, I just bought a new 760i. It's FABULOUS!
I cannot fathom spending so much $ on a watch. (Even if I had it to spend!) I could see getting one that would last you the rest of your life. But collecting them? For what? You can only wear one at a time! I guess you could wear one on each hand. You could, technically, wear them around your ankles, too. But then you'd look like a crazy person, which defeats the purpose of looking stylish. Sometimes I forget people at DW (and other outlets) are living such completely different, separate lives than their audience. They claim to be speaking for us, the "regular" conservatives. They are our voice. But they're not. No one who has money to waste on not just one ridiculously expensive watch, but collecting them, has any idea what it's like to be a regular person. They have no clue what daily life is like, when you're counting pennies to make sure you have enough for gas, food, and next month's rent/mortgage. It's all such a joke.
I bought my watches as rewards for a goal met or personal achievement in my life/career. You may only be able to wear one at a time but that doesn't mean one watch is right for every occasion. You can also only wear a pair of shoes at one time but that doesn't mean a pair of shoes are right for every occasion. It's nice to have options when you dress up or want to be more casual or for when you're going to a business meeting or perhaps an awards event. Having nice things that you aspire to collect/own gives you an incentive to work harder to obtain them. If you want to be a "regular" person all of your life, that is your choice, but that doesn't mean someone who has become successful is wrong for their success. Just because you struggle to pay your bills doesn't mean I have to live in poverty for your sake.
Look at your closet and count how many t-shirts you have. If it is more than 10 you have a collection and you know you don't need this many. I'm saying this as a joke and not to be mean ...
Although Seiko and Tissot do make some fashion watches, they are not known as fashion brands. Both are higher up on the scale when compared to fashion brands such as Fossil.
I've started a modest fountain pen collection. They all actually get use because they're tools, but I do have a few nice ones. The nicest one I own is a Pilot Custom 823, fantastic pen.
@@juliam248 so oddly, I'm an electrician. The only fountain pen I ever have on my work truck is a Lamy Safari- all of my other pens stay at home on my desk/shelves. If co-workers need a pen, I hand them the crappy little ballpoints I get at supply-houses. Whether it's watches or pens or shoes, I think it's nice to treat yourself to some nice things for no reason other than you like them.
@anibal5845 I work in a large, open office, and my coworkers love to grab pens and post it's off people's desks. The only pens that I haven't gotten "re-allocated" are glittery jelly pens I brought in once a joke. I don't collect anything, but I completely agree with you about treating yourself once in a while.
Love you Ben - but no, fashion watches are not a good start. Brands like Fossil are the McDonalds of watches. There are many budget friendly brands to start from that are not fashion-watch brands, Seiko, Timex or, generally more expensive but a great manufacturer, Tissot. And another good start are MicroBrands which typically give high quality for lower price-points. Also, tuxedo / black tie etiquette actually would not "allow" a watch.
Very basic watch stuff but listening to Ben explain makes it cool. Very impressed by Ben's wrist check watch. Note, Fossils now owns the legendary Zodiac watch company. Ben, Tissot is NOT a fashion watch, but rather an entry lux watch - a very good watch BTW. The BIG 3 is better known as the Holy Trinity of watches.

The collection, valuation and investment trends in watches was said to have peaked and the marketplace was definitely thinning out. It will be very interesting to see how this industry evolves in 2025.
You can collect things for the sheer love of them not just as future investment. 🤷🏾♀️ Edit: I think smart watches had something to do with what you said. It's a shame because they're hideous.
One of my great uncle's did watch repairs and if he was in a pawn shop or something and came across a watch that wasn't working but was for sale,he would buy it than repair it and carry it with him so if he met someone out in public that didn't have a watch,he would just give it to them.i knew another old man when I was a kid, both arms were lined with watches and each watch was set to a different time zone around the world
A good mechanical watch (not fashion watches) can last two lifetimes or much more. Unlike a phone/tech which is obsolete/useless within 5 years. Owning your great grandfather's watch can have a priceless sentimental value, and if you are lucky even the financial value can go up.

I'll do the same for under 2K: Casio G-Shock DW5600E, Seiko Turtle or Sumo, Atlantic Worldmaster and cheap fit watch that counts you steps, calories if you are into sports...
The video is not 100% accurate but still good enough education for the unannitiated.
I am old enough to remember when Ben had Vincero as his sponsor, and told us have great they were, lol.
Ben's pronunciation of Longines 😅
I have a Cartier Santos medium two tone in gold and stainless steel it is the perfect watch and statement piece at a relatively affordable price of around $15,000. It will get some scratches over time but that is ok for me.
My favorite watch is my 15+ year old Fossil with a square face. I wear it almost every day!
The best survivalist watches are G-Shocks.
My bluesy is all I need but appreciate a good collection.
Archie Luxury, is that you?
My dad gave me an old Citizen watch, but I lost it unfortunately. It was really nice. Just recently added a Jaguar (not the car) to my collection that I got on my honeymoon. My wife haggled it down from $945 to $300. No sales tax either because we were on a cruise outside of the US.
I'm thinking about starting a wash collection now. I think I'll just go for one of those cheap quarter hour repeaters.

This has been the BEST advice for starting off collecting watches or just getting into watches.
Watches are worth shit when you need to eat. Collectibles are useless. When war comes the first thing I need is a cool watch.
As a collector, for an inexpensive watch that looks very nice id recommend Orient, Seiko, Hamilton, Tissot, Bulova brand watches
Ben you should do your watch collection with @NicoLeonard this dude is funny af!!!! Love you both!!
and he's based
Okay rich boi
You don't have to be rich to have a watch collection. I have over 50 watches from Invicta, Casio, Timex and some inexpensive Seiko's and I didn't even spend more than $1,000 over last 20 years...
Rule 1: Don't buy Rolex, AP, RM or mainstream Pateks
Rule 2: Buy whatever you want and what makes you happy no meter of it is a $15 Casio or $150,000 Patek
Ps. I already got the first one...
For me it just doesn't get any better than Rolex.
lucky you...
Acrylic or plexi is easier to scratch but also pretty easy to buff out yourself with something like Poliwatch. It's also wonderfully transparent which mineral and sapphire crystals are not in the same way.
I didn’t know you liked watches. 👍🏼
I would prefer start a car collection, but it was fun learning a bit more about watches.
That would be cool but I couldn't do that. Cars require too much upkeep. For me it's two cars at most.
@@JRS-j9m Home I the most important but you can't really collect them Ha, ha
Even Nicholas Cage tried it and failed..
"Tag heuoorrr" "Longxinee" "JeagerLeKorrrr" Lmao
First rule of watch collection: don't. It isn't worth the money or time.
expensive watch = money and time
😂
Not realy. Your 1st rule is stupid
If you like watches and have the money collect them. Simple as that, your first rule is uppity and stupid.
I mean if you have money why not
A must watch video
Can't go wrong with a good old Seiko. Also I have been surprised how much I appreciate my Hamiltons.
Yes, pretty insulting to many.
Perfect timing for someone like me getting into watches. Thanks Ben!
I always wanted a nice fountain pen
@CalebMay-bf1ci have you ever used one? What's your experience with them?
How do you not lose them? I wouldn't be able to keep a nice pen at work. Same reason I don't own nice sun glasses.
The Watches from the thumbnail are from Lidl that i bought today 😂
Nico Leonard should react to this. Cool vid!
Thoughts on Bracelets for Straps? Bracelets look awesome but I avoid wearing my bracelet watch because I have issues typing at work with a heavy watch like that. I Usually go with one that has a strap or just go with my digital Timex Ironman watch.
I was always say band and use it interchangeably for a strap or bracelet. You've reminded me that I need to start using the right term for these.
I thought that Tom Segura was going to show up on this video. What’s next? Ben’s car collection? Tom has 53 exotics, you know.
I’m not really a watch guy, but I love setting my alarm clock, radio clock, microwave clock, oven clock, and car clocks to be within 5 seconds of iPhone time.
More Daily Wire watch content!!
need more of this
"A Zenith Rolex Daytona", he knows what is he talking about, yes the Zenith El Primero movement!
Great choices btw.
Entry Level (little 3): Seiko, Hamilton, and Timex; honorable mention are Citizen and Bulova!
God-Tier: Casio!!!
Ironically, I just spent time viewing a video yesterday about the significant downturn in this market. The collection, valuation and investment trends in watches was said to have peaked and the marketplace was definitely thinning out. It will be very interesting to see how this industry evolves in 2025.
You can collect things for the sheer love of them not just as future investment. 🤷🏾♀️
Edit: I think smart watches had something to do with what you said. It's a shame because they're hideous.
I think the “market correction” is pretty close to there. It could have a little more juice left but I think it’s fairly stabilized now.
I don't buy watches as investments; I buy them because I love them and because they mark something significant in my life.
Daytona with Zenith caliber, you are a collector
What BS is all that
One of my great uncle's did watch repairs and if he was in a pawn shop or something and came across a watch that wasn't working but was for sale,he would buy it than repair it and carry it with him so if he met someone out in public that didn't have a watch,he would just give it to them.i knew another old man when I was a kid, both arms were lined with watches and each watch was set to a different time zone around the world
Nice change of pace!!Ben for president 🙌
Watching this proudly wearing my $50 Casio Duro!
Tissot and Seiko aren't fashion watches. They have actual legitimate watchmaking heritage. Fossil isn't in the same league.
The beauty of luxury items is that they never become cost effective as improving technology makes manufacturing more cost effective.
We need an interview with Josh Shapiro.
Ben really really did not want to say "Holy Trinity" 😆
A good mechanical watch (not fashion watches) can last two lifetimes or much more. Unlike a phone/tech which is obsolete/useless within 5 years. Owning your great grandfather's watch can have a priceless sentimental value, and if you are lucky even the financial value can go up.
As a Watch collector this makes me happy. Get into FP Journe. The boutique is in the epic in Miami. Outstanding.
