Yes, there's an antenna issue. I mentioned it several video's ago when the issue came up with the Striker. Check the SWR on that antenna. If it's high then you more than likely burnt the final amplifier up on the Striker. You'll need an SWR meter to check it. Then adjust the antenna to bring the SWR down as close to 1:1 as you can get it. Have the final checked on the Striker and replaced if needed. If you know a HAM radio operator get them to help you. And I consider the coax part of the antenna system. So the problem could be anywhere from where the coax connects to the radio to the tip of the antenna.

I’ve had all kinds of radios Kurt. I’d have to say you can’t go wrong with a new coax the gray type, a new antenna mount and a francis antenna. I know francis are cheap but they work very well and have a great swr. You just cant go wrong just like with the cobra 29.

Mr Kurt, It could be your SWR being to high. The switch on the far left, switch it all the way down for CAL, key up the mic, turn your knob on right (not channel but next to it) "SWR CAL" adjusting the meter to calibrate (I believe it's the top scale to the diamond) then switch switch to middle (while still keying mic) to see what your SWR is at. You need it to be 2.5 or less. Using top scale again. Less is better.(you can tell by the red in the scale) This adjusts your radio to the current antenna system it"s hooked up to. Keep it between the lines buddy.

that cobre has a s w r meter on it to check the standing wave of your antenna switch it to s w r then key the mic use the dial to zero the meter then key the mic to read the standing wave if the meter moves up above 3 you can adjust the antenna if it goes way to the right it means your antenna needs some work either new coax or a badly grounded antenna im pretty sure your doors are also fiberglass that wont ground anything dont use the radio if your antenna is suspect it will blow the finals in the radio good luck

Yup you got ant. issues. I had the same radio in the day. Still do. You can also check your ant. reflective wave with the built in meter if I remember.
Your on the right mind set thinking wire, corrosion or connections.
Check those when you get a chance.
Also limit your transmitting until you correct it or will burn out the TRX amplifier.
Nice ride today Opie looks content as ever.

Good evening from Alberta. It’s about 46 years since I played with CB Radio. The grinding comments are good, but you need to check your signal right out to your antenna. When we had Radio Shack, there’s an SWR Meter you could get, along with a load resistance plug. The SWR meter
You first check the output from the radio. Then put the SMR meter on the COAX connector at the antenna. In both cases, use the load resistor when you key the mike to see the transmit output from the radio. This will check the condition of your COAX while you’re doing this. If you’re good so far, you can check your antenna with an ohmmeter to see whether it’s shorted out while it’s disconnected from the radio. If I’m not mistaken, the standard output of CBs is 5 watts. I’ve been doing electrical and instrumentation for 52 years. SWR is Standing Wave Ratio and is in indication of how efficient your antenna system is.

Kurt...if that red antena lite is coming on when you transmit you absolutely need to tune your antenna with a swr meter. If you keep talking on the radio the way it is now you will burn out the "final" transistor!! Thats what happened to the other radio cause you kept talking on it with an antenna thats not been "tuned" with a meter.

At home I have the last CB purchased way back, a Cobra 19 Plus. Haven't used this one in more years than I can remember. The Shakespear antenna is hanging about somewhere, have not spotted in quite a while. Good grounding is important as you already know. I still have the Standing Wave checking/tuning tool. None of this will be used again, I don't think. With additional investment of time and due diligence you'll sort out what the problems are for your CB and correct the offending part or parts. Thankee for the ride.
