- After the winter video from Chur to Zürich, many requested a video during the summer months, so here it is.
We start in Chur, the terminus station for the normal gauge SBB railway when heading south. In Chur, there are narrow gauge railway connections around the entire southeast Swiss region, operated by the Rhaetian railway, one of Switzerland's largest private operators.
As we head northwest through the mountains, we pass a few major lakes before eventually reaching Zürich, the highest frequency station in the largest city of Switzerland.

Hi lorirocks777, Awsome senery on this video, great information of all the locations go through on the video. I am a ex railway worker 1960 to 2001 in the UK. Had many jobs in my career, station staff, Shunter, passed guard, Trackman, signal lampman for oil semifore signals many years ago. Failed loco drivers test 1988 never mind still a good time on the railways. Love your video's bring backs memories. Lol Brian.

Loved this, thanks. I did it in reverse on an organised rail holiday to Switzerland in 2007. We took the Eurocity train direct from Cologne to Chur, reversing at Zurich. Not knowing Swiss railways at all I often wondered how we left Zurich heading east and ended up going west. That 10km tunnel explains it I think!

The left turn after departing from Zürich when heading to Chur is almost 180 degrees, changing the course from westerly to easterly.
A late comment here 😆 but I rode Zürich-Chur several times in the mid 1990s before the tunnel; the train made that same 180 degree turn and ran along the lake. The tunnel was to get a lot of that thru traffic off the lakeside line as I understand...

@@lorirocks777 Although pretty good, I didn't think the quality on UA-cam was quite as good as some of your more recent videos. Edges seemed to have artificially enhanced sharpness and I chose to soften the image slightly to make it look more natural and comfortable for viewing.
@@Territet Strange.. I left the footage entirely raw, besides some stabilisation. Recorded with an Fz1000.
@@lorirocks777 Don't get me wrong, it doesn't spoil the excellent video at all, but you did ask about the quality on UA-cam. I have seen a similar effect on other 4K cab ride videos from you and others, but not on the Sonceboz - Solothurn video where you said you used the Fz1000 (at 1080). I suspect it is a characteristic of UA-cam 4K processing of fast-moving action.
Beautiful footage! Quite a few years since I travelled between Zürich and Chur. The surprise was the relatively new basis tunnel between Thalwil and Zürich.
Video quality is the best I've seen, I might have to buy a 4K TV now, many thanks.

What an incredibly beautiful Country!
I am particularly impressed by the area around Bach (time marks ~54:00 to ~55:00) where access to the lake is in perfect harmony with the presence of the Railway.
We used to have a similar situation in Barrie, Ontario, where short-sighted politicians have achieved the elimination of the Railway in order to pursue their questionable conception of public access to the lake.
As a result, a long distance line, known as the Newmarket subdivision, has been severed and a major city like Orillia is no longer serviced by Rail.
The only thing that detracts from the otherwise idyllic visual sights that Switzerland offers are the wide-spread examples of graffiti vandalism on public structures and most railway freight cars.
Unfortunately, Switzerland, with all its natural and man-made beauty, is not immune to the effects of mental disorders that this illustrates among the defacing vandals!

It was a tripod and the problem lies with that camera, which is why I hardly ever record 4K

When I last did this journey, about three weeks ago, the train made an emergency stop about a third of the way in to the Zimmerberg base tunnel because of a locomotive fault. After a few minutes and temporarily de-powering the train, we were able to continue at low speed into Zurich HB. The incident was well handled by the crew. I don't see many escape doors in the tunnel. It would have been a long walk back to Thalwil! Is there a routine for rescuing faulty trains and their passengers?
Yes, usually they send a train to pick up stranded passengers.
How can a passenger train in Switzerland NOT stop at Ziegelbrucke? Outrageous! Not Pfaffikon, either?? What the heck kind of train is this?

Good run. You mention station closures. At or about the same time would industries with 'short' sidings be cut off from the mainline? There are many grain silos (LANDI) which have railway structures and track but now no connection to the main line. I suppose having to shunt to and from the mainline with stock left on the mainline is not compatible with fast trains and a full timetable?
The station closures I referred to are solely passenger services.
There are no problems with delivering stock despite the high traffic. Every station with high traffic has a solution to that problem in its design and points. The main factor is price. When sidings are no longer used, its points are eventually removed.

Beautiful cab ride, which I enjoyed. But PLEASE STATE WHEN THE VIDEO WAS FILMED. It clearly cannot be later than summer 2016!. At 1hr 13m 21s we pass the 14 10 Zurich to Locarno IR train complete with observation car! That train ceased operating in December 2016.

It'd be lovely to know the speed at certain points. And what are those beeps?
I'll be releasing another video on this line with speeds. Beeps are to do with the integra safety system and also the train asking for a sign from the driver.

Ahi no más el Cab Ride, monotono y a la larga aburrido, además que el getón del maquinista puso un papel blamco frente al parabrizas de la maquina que se reflejó medio video al sol en el vidrio y hechó a perder la imagen de la vista del paisaje, hay que ser bien weón para no tener cuidado con la cámara si sabe que va filmando.
