I really enjoy going fishing with you, Davie. For health reasons, I have not been able to fish this year, except with you! Thank you, Keith (from Virginia)
Hi Keith, I am sorry to hear that you are not well enough to get out to fish but I am glad you have found my video a way to come along with me as from now I will certainly not be alone..The one thing that I have learnt from these videos is that many do enjoy them so I will try and do as many as I can before the season finishes..I hope you get well soon and get back on the water.. All the very best Davie
Great, Davie! Enjoyed every second! Watched it right off the bat with my morning coffee. Nobody is putting out fishing videos like this. You’re a one of a kind, sir! 🐟
Really enjoyed this video Davie seeing your own flies in action on the wild brown trout..and well done for hooking into a grilse!... thanks so much to you for sharing your accumulated knowledge and experience..much appreciated👍
Great to be on the ‘’watter” with you davie I always like seeing the Ayrshire waters.Reminds me of home being an exile here in Cambridgeshire. I also love the fly tying, Grafham, Rutland are local here, big fish but not quite the same. Keep up the good work and stay well.
Hi Burton Brocious, I am sorry to hear you are not well enough to go fishing so you are very welcome to come along with me anytime, I hope that you will get back to fishing very soon..Many thanks for the kind words.. All the very best Davie..
Lovely runs. That submerged branch was the undoing of you Davie. Great feeling to be in a big one - if only for a while - and on a 4wt rod also! You’re right - we miss a lot more trout using wet-fly - as the fish are facing upstream and we’re inclined to pull it too fast out of their mouth. My dad (RIP) - taught us as beginners - to keep the rod tip ‘higher’ and let the fly swallow by ‘dipping’ the tip on a bite for a second longer than on drys - before engaging when fishing wets. Thanks - great videos.
Great video Davie. I tied a couple of your caddis pupa when you posted it and it did me well on Thursday when I couldn’t buy a bite any other way. My upstream wets still needs work but I’m really enjoying the practice. Downstream swinging wet flies is my new favourite thing to do!
Enjoyable to be fishing alongside you in this video Davie, especially swinging a caddis down and across. Down here in the South West ,the water has been over 16 Degrees too warn and trout a little stressed , also the fly life has diminished after the great abundance of hatches through May /early June . Small Caddis are starting to show late afternoons , bring on a few days of rain to liven the trout up a little.
Davie it has been a real pleasure watching you tie flies and now demonstrate their use. Pity you did not land the Grisle which would have been amazing on the very light rod. I do miss my time fishing for Salmon and Sea Trout but do make up for it with some excellent river fishing here. Tight lines from open season in AUS.
Cheers for another very enjoyable video Davie, I also picked up a good few useful tips. I like the way you focus on the enjoyment of fishing itself and the appreciation of the river and its surroundings, rather than the latest fangled French leader setups or whatever they are! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos and tight lines for what's remaining of the season 👍
Hi Duofold, I know the sound of me walking is a bit loud at times as the GoPro I am using has three mics and two are on the bottom of the camera. @@DavieMcPhail Good morning, Davie. I certainly DO follow you, and need to say what an outstanding contribution you make to the global fly-tying community. I love fly fishing in river Carron for trout before lock down. Went for one season but disappointed, never caught a trout. What type of fly fishing rod and reel shall I buy with suitable line.
Hello Davie. Can I make you a suggestion? Next time you are walking to the river with your rod disassemble, use band for ponytails, one on the top and the other on the bottom, don't tie to much. You will feel and see the difference. Great video by the way! All the best.
Hi dongil123, Just keep me in mind and I'll certainly look at making a video of the boxes I make for the monthly draw as my own are ruff and ready as they would say..I'm glad yo enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie..
Thanks for the wonderful videos, #DavieMcPhail I've learned so much from your tying and fishing! Your 'McPhail Caddis Pupa' from a ways back is still one of my favourite ties. I've noticed on quite a few videos that many folks from Scotland, Scandinavia and upper parts of Europe usually fish on river left ( flow towards the back of the casting shoulder for a RH caster ) instead of casting a bit more upstream along the bank from river right, then getting a longer dangle after the rod tip passes by. Am I just imagining things? 😄 Do you prefer fishing river left? I always find it a bit awkward to do so unless I'm swinging flies with a two-handed setup. Perhaps it was the only access? Thanks again, and keep up the good work. Tight lines! 👏
Did I hear you wrong or did you say you used fluorescent thread to see the tip of your fly line? That’s a pretty slick trick I’ll have to give it go sounds almost like a euro sighter for a floating line love these videos keep ‘em comin Davie
