I don’t know what to say after years of enjoying watching you tying flies! Now it’s so nice watching you enjoy yourself fishing mate! Just that short video has shown new to fly fishing how to enjoy yourself it’s not always catching fish the odd tree fence bush it’s all funn ! Love ya show mate happy fishing 👍🇦🇺👍
Yeah I agree l wouldn't mind seeing you fishing ...I've got a great one of me falling in the river....of course my friend put it to the Benny hill theme and made it slow mo... which makes it much better

Down here in S.Wales I've always at least a dozen of March Brown's in My box .I like to fish it both Wet & Dry. Sometimes as late as July. Especially on The River Usk. Well done to you. Great video. I was born in the Doon Valley but I have lived in Toronto, Canada since 1967. I first started tying about 20 years ago and got away from it for awhile but your videos have helped renew my interest in tying flies again. Trout season opens here next Saturday so might even hit the river for some Steelhead.

the only difference between your fishing skill and myself, is that we both get tangles, both catch trees , but you also seem to target and catch fish in between!, fun to watch and listen thanks for the great videos!
Very cool to see you fishing the flies we watched you tie. The fly was visible enough to follow on most of your casts too. You always have to watch those trees.
They sneak up behind & try to grab your flies. If they haven’t rusted out, the trees on my favorite river are well decorated for several miles.

Lovely relaxing half hour! Sea Trout smolt I think Davie. The Salmon smolts have a more obvious V’ shaped tail.

The hook may rust before she sinks.The past few videos have shown me a whole new side of Mr. McPhail. The new fly DH and fising the DH is a far more excitable guy. I like it.

river. Harry or a Grunter either one would do for me the river at this time of year. Beautiful healthy trout. That more silver beauty I think it was a sea trout part as well. Back in the nineties I used to regularly fish the Till at Wooler small butterscotch brownies sea trout and salmon part. Watching them swim away on release. Pure poetry.

Gotta say Davie, Tied the Olive Dynamite Harry after watching your video, went fishing yesterday and first Cast hooked a lovely Brown followed by two more over the next hour and pricked some little ones , great fly thanks and enjoy your time on the water to. PS. I also caught a couple of trees 😉

Thanks for sharing this! Here in Finland lakes are still covered with solid ice, but there is a glimmer of hope. Summer will come soon. The rapids are open, and there would be opportunities for great fishing. I think chironomid buzzers might do the trick.

It's always great to get out on the water and I'm hoping to get a lot more footage this year to go with the flies in the videos..I do love the river but I also like the lochs like yourself as there's nothing better than out in a boat or working along the bank especially for the wild brownies..

I've never had a salmon on a dry , I might try this year as I just got into a bit of dry fly tying .Video was great fun to watch.
Is there another material that could be used for the body and post instead of the synthetic body although it does float really high in the water that pattern, great video again Dave,,

Yes I use the mucilin on CDC as long as you apply it lightly as I did in the video as less is best..When I have dyed CDC though I have used Nikwax TX,Direct spray on the CDC feathers after dyeing, I do have a video on UA-cam which I have attached for you to see..I'm glad you enjoyed the video..

You can't get a day ticket for this beat as you have to put you name down for a season ticket which allows you to fish on a certain day a week..This is only my second year on it and I had to wait a few years to get the chance to a day..There's club waters further up though, there's Dalrymple Angling Club, Patna and there's a small stretch at Polnessan which are good waters as well..I'm glad you enjoyed the video..

@@DavieMcPhail Thanks Davie. I'm hoping to get on a beat on the ayr this year, just out of town, fingers crossed. I'd love to fish the annbank stretch, but their joining fee is a bit much as it stands.

Bravo Davie, wonderful. Curious about access to the River Doon. Do you have to pay to fish a run like this? Here in British Columbia, all anglers have open and free access to any water they desire as all rivers are bordered by crown land. Just curious as I am interested in a trip to Scotland. Yes you do have to pay to fish most of the waters in Scotland either by joining a club which may own or rent a stretch of the water or join a syndicate like I did to fish this part of the River Doon in the video, it allows me to fish on a Friday so I have to cross my fingers that the water and weather is good on that day..I do have season tickets on other club waters which allows me to fish 7 days a week..It is a lot different from fishing in Canada but if you do come to Scotland and you are close to where I live I would be very happy to take you for a days fishing.I'm glad you enjoyed the video..

I used a Pieroway 8ft 10inch 5 weight rod, Line was a Lee Wulff, tapered 9ft leader down to 4lb and a tippet of 3 lb fluorocarbon and the reel was an old 4/5 Scierra which I bought many years ago..

Don’t think I’ve used mucilin as a fly dressing, but a lot of old guys used to swear by it. Now I’m an old guy, time to give it a try. I have the red version of mucilin, will that do?
Same thought Callum. I use the red mucilin on my furled leader only and frog's fanny or gink on my dries

I originally used the red tin when I first started but either will float your flies but just make sure you use it lightly as it's very easy to over do it..I've been an old guy for many years...
