    I love how when any other vehicle that’s not a Jeep climbs easily through hard stuff, and jeep owners just keep looking like O.O haha

    Hi Sven, are stock axle and tie rods strong enough for front locker? Anything changed? I'm thinking of a cheap e-ton elocker since I don't wheel hard and still got 33ish tires.

      I broke 4 factory CV axles before buying a set of RCV cv axles. I have not broken an RCV axle, supposedly, RCV will replace the axle for free if I break one. My feeling is the front locker and bending tie rods are somewhat independent. I seem to bend tie rods when I come down hard with the front wheels turned. Knock on wood, I haven't bent a tie rod in 12 months, been more careful

      @@svennorman9138 thank you so much for the info, really appreciate it. I will definitely see on RCV axle.

      @@LionRunner I was waiting for the Marlin Crawler long travel setup before buying the RCV axles. Marlin Crawler (or Total Chaos) would require 2" longer axles than stock. Gave up waiting and bought the stock length RCV axle - some regret that I didn't go long travel (Total Chaos or Marlin Crawler) with longer axles at the same time

    • @LionRunner
      @LionRunner 3 роки тому +1

      @@svennorman9138 I see. Since mine is also my daily driver I might not go long travel. I guess I have to keep $2K for the axle + labor in addition to front locker cost. :-)

    4.56 gears. Wow that’s big. How’s the mpg’s now ? How much did the front locker cost ? That would really help out the 4Runner for sure ! Peacefrom510 .

      The gear change didn't change my gas mileage, was watching closely - still getting around 13.5 mpg. The front locker plus compressor was $1500

    Is this a SR5 or a different model? I’m thinking of getting a SR5 and adding lockers down the road. What are your thoughts on them? Do you use the locking differentials a lot?

    • @svennorman9138
      @svennorman9138  4 роки тому

      Getting the SR5 and adding the lockers is the most cost effective approach. TRD offroad in this video - came with rear locker from factory. I use the rear locker often, front locker rarely. Difficult to steer with the front locker on. I use the front locker when climbing a step then turn it off to gain control of the steering again. Any video I posted after January 2019 has the front locker.

    Very nice👍🏽
    What kind of front locker you have?
    I'm wanting to put 4.88 gear and rear lockers but if I can put also on the front that would be great. Thank you.

    • @svennorman9138
      @svennorman9138  5 років тому +1

      4.88 would be a good choice for 34 inch tires and larger. I did the east coast gear swap, they send the front and rear diffs to you then you send your diffs to them for partial refund. Good time to install a locker when you are doing the gear swap. I have the stock electronic locker in the rear and added the ARB air locker on the front.

    How are the 4.56 gears treating you? Thinking about going the same route due to power loss.
    Thank you

    • @svennorman9138
      @svennorman9138  5 років тому +1

      Did the East Coast gear swap - order the new assembled gears from them, change then send back 3.73 stock gears for refund. No mechanical issues with the gears. 4.56 was perfect for 35 inch tires, should have done 4.88 since I went to 37 inch tires afterward (4.56 is a dog with 37" tires)

    • @svennorman9138

      Not sure tie rods bending is directly related to the front locker. For sure, the front locker has wrecked 4 cv axles

      @@Intentsrig I have gotten better at not bending tie rods. Tending to crawl rather than send it - bends fewer tie rods. Had two tie rods that bent bad enough that I had to change them in the field. Had two other tie rods that bent but still drivable (discovered during alignment)

      I run the rear locker more often than the front locker. Climbing the first rock in the video, had both lockers on. Tight corners are challenging with the front locker on so I only turn it on when climbing an obstacle.
