I think Smallant is the one who originally started calling BTB's "Bounce that boi" instead of "Bullet time bounces" haha. Clips of him saying that are in his old all shrines vods. They're fun watches!
I will be honest when I heard you were making a video on speed running records i was like “eh, okie” but holy crap this video was INSANELY interesting. I was so wrong and I’m so sorry for having doubts! I actually learned a lot in this video about different glitches & how they work (which I originally never had knowledge on) makes me wanna do my own speed run for fun! Thank you Zelda Enthusiast for this video and your hard work!
Lol all good! Had been wanting to make this one for a long time, and it ended up being waaay bigger an undertaking than I thought, but I already knew it was a good story bc I started running the game in 2021. I'm happy you enjoyed!
I really hope you enjoy this video! Let me know if you want more Zelda speedrunning history videos like this and/or if you'd like to see me livestream my attempts to lower my personal best time (a 28:14 as of the time of publishing) And, if you enjoyed, please like the video. It helps so much. Thanks for watching and reading!
Seeing more would be fantastic! I've been quietly waiting for Salt to upload more Zelda stuff, but it's yet to be. Great work! I do like that you also mentioned runs that would've been a WR if other things hadn't happened (especially the one that just wasn't verified for a couple days). Personal top picks for video topics? Honestly just any Zelda game you don't normally see people talk about, if you think it'll make for a good video. Also enjoying the sports commentary at the end LMAO. Now that I'm thinking about it though, I wonder what speedruns look like in some of the less... played games, like OoA/OoS. Edit: How many years have I been a Zelda fan? Since birth baby!!! (aka, 27 B))
Thanks! Come to think of it, I've never watched an oos/ooa speedrun. Now I'm curious. Glad you liked the play-by-play. Sportscaster was exactly what I was trying to channel there
this video was a real treat. as someone whos been a casual viewer on and off of botws runs from launch, it was like taking a walk back in time seeing and remembering all the strats and seeing just how much it changed and how quickly. great work :D
It just feels right to get this video from the man who's tutorials taught myself and so, so many others to speedrun this game. The impact you've had on this community can't be overstated, and I'm glad to see it all come full circle in a way.
I was just thinking yesterday about summoning salt making this video. It popped up on my fyp. Glad to say I found a new creator that shares that same idea😂
My quickest BOTW speedrun was an all devine beasts one of around 5 hours and 30 minutes, as a mostly casual player. I used whistle sprint throw sprint and windbomb since they're the only glitches I knew. Though it can't really set as a record, it's my best time yet- and my friends were surprised since I had only recently beaten the main game
Hey just a little feedback if you ever plan to do something like that again in the future you should not show the whole graph with times basically at the start of the video it was pretty disappointing to see the whole graph like that spoiling the all the times. As a viewer I think its better to show the time going down as the video goes. And the second thing I wish you could do is explain the glitches used in speedruns, for example with the fall damage cancel glitch it was like "so poeple found a glitch where fall damage is cancelled" and that was pretty much it with the explanation so it would be nice to hear some more about gliches explaining how they were done or how they were found, but good video over all had a good time watching it
1:17 everyone has the right to make their own video even if it's about to some same subject and someone else did it you have your own perspectives to weigh in and your own point of view on how it took place so feel free to make it
was invested in botw speedruns off launch until about 2020, and this was such a cool trip down memory lane. one of my coolest memories of botw runs is watching wohaiksong trying to skew clip through more than just one of the plateau shrines. this was so early in discovery of skew that nobody knew if you could even do all four shrines, which is weird to think about nowadays.
Amazing vid but i would add 2 things. An explanation of why they're choosing french as the language and a quick and easy explanation of how wind bombing actually works for ppl that dont know. But truly fantastic work. Loved it
Yo, this was so interesting man, love these types of videos in particular as well and glad someone had made one for such a historic speed running game and probably the most significant game in my life❤ Can’t wait to see this for totk, I watched some runs by other players and am so excited to see what they will discover next, and how it will impact the future of the speedruns
Summoning Salt would be proud. This was just as addicting as one of his videos. As someone who doesn't actually speedrun, but watches alot... I have been waiting on an any% history for BOTW forever. I always wondered what the new tricks were that were evolving, and you did a great job explaining to new fans and old.
Up until the release of TOTK, BOTW was the game that kept on giving new tricks were discovered every month it seemed and after the discovery of IST, you could probably program the game from scratch if you wanted to heck somebody managed to make all of Hyrule on a DS
Great video. It’s impressive to have this depth of game knowledge and history while also articulating it so well. May the algorithm give its blessings.
Yeah, about 7.5 years down into about 1.5 hours. Hadn't thought of it that way, but it is somewhat concise. I cut out a ton of extra fluff from the original script during the editing process 😂
Incredible video! I stopped watching BOTW speedruns a little before BLSS was discovered, and when one came on my recommended earlier this year I was like HUH?? WHAT?! Lol. Awesome to hear about the current strats and the WR history
Great video man! You have a great presentation style that has a pleasant calmness often lacking in SS's videos (though I love them too). You should feel proud of this. (27 :) )
Video is pretty great! Only thing I might add as a thing that might need some changing is muting some clips instead of lowering the volume, and then fully unlowering once the clip requires the runner commentary. Just for a bit of help with audio clearness imo
So true to creating something for yourself to enjoy! I knew nobody else was gonna spend 3 months making a full show multicam of the concert I went to, so I went ahead and did it myself
Dude... this video is SO good. You deserve so much more recognition - the amount of work that went into this must be absurd. Keep it up - it will pay off.
Thanks! Yes it was a ton of research, writing, and editing. Took about 2 months total. Trying to streamline my process so I can be more efficient this year lol
Great Video. I love watching World Record historys for videogames. Seeing what was when discovered and implemented is so cool and interesting. I love BotW speedrunning and this video is great.
this game is one of the coolest speed games in speedrunning history imo, the hilarious janky shit that you can pull off to just send link flying across the entire map will always be funny to watch also something that is true for MOST speedrunning but i still like to point out is how the runners name their splits for the runs. you get some pretty silly names based on throwaway lines and inside jokes with chatters on stream and it really does give the feel that it's not just the runner working at this, it's an entire community together finding and solving new puzzles to break our favorite games
Great video, Tony! Couldn't have asked for a better UA-camr to put this history together. Your explanations of the strats and routes were excellent, as always, and the timeline was clean and demonstrated the record progression well. On a different note, I'd love to see you get back to streaming BotW or TotK PB attempts someday, or just streaming in general, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Hanging out on stream was always a blast! Either way, hope you've been well and thanks for the wonderful content ❤
Great video! I bought BOTW in 2022 and started watching the speed running almost instantly. There was a nostalgic element to this video because I loved that time of watching the records improve constantly. Also… 27.
I enjoyed this video a lot, I'm glad you made it since no one else did. I'd watch more videos like this, it's much more recent but I think one on TotK could be cool. My one suggestion on something you could improve is that you continually compare the past runs to the modern day ones or future in general. I'm not saying you should never ever mention it, because there can be valuable comparisons that can't be made later on, but it was very frequent, and thinking to videos from someone like SummoningSalt whom you took inspiration from, they tend to keep the context on what it had been up to that point. I think it makes for both a more compelling narrative as well as being clearer to viewers who may not know about the modern-day techniques.
I’m so happy you used a timeline to show the records like summoning salt cause they make it so much easier to see but I do wish you zoomed out in it at the end
This video was Amazing, super duper glad I stumbled across it on my home page!! Well organized, well spoken, well researched and well paced. What a rare treat of a video, most certainly for it being my favorite game as well! I’m a P5 content enjoyer, so I’m biased of course 😂🔥
8:15 shield jumping hadnt been discovered? isnt there an in game tutorial for it?? and i couldve sworn they showed off shield surfing before launching the game
it has a different timing for the jump, as the shield jump that they use to close the gap usually requires unequipping the shield in the middle of the jump. this gives an extra boost
I really enjoyed this video, and would love to see more like it. I would especially like to see videos on meme categories, stuff like become monke%, go home and die%, or butter dog dog wit da butter on him% (yes those are all real speedrun categories)
