But Phil’s early years were tough. When Phil was born, his mother, Philomena, was kicked out by her landlords and sent to a home for unmarried mothers where she received beatings from the other women. They also tried to force her to put Phil up for adoption.
Eventually, she sent baby Phil to stay with his grandparents in Dublin, Ireland. His grandparents even pretended that young Phil belonged to a late friend of Philomena’s, and that they were looking after him for his dad.
Phil certainly used his struggles to his advantage, and with that, became one of the biggest legends in the history of Irish music.
I was asked recently, “if you could meet 3 Irish people (dead or alive) who would they be?”
For me, Philo will always be in that top 3 💚

You wouldn’t believe but I was born in 1980 in Dublin when I say it was rare to see a black man or woman it was very rare my sister cried when a man at the bus stop was black it sounds crazy our school had 7 classes of over 30 kids in my year & there was one kid who was half black then in the mid to late 90s our country changed there’s so many different cultures living here but our Government is pathetic with a homeless crisis as bad as it is and last year alone 150,000 immigrants came to Ireland it’s so difficult to see our own suffering but Phil’s mother was 100% Irish I’m not too sure if he ever met his Da but God he died far too young ❣️

My sister met him in London regarding her work.
She said he was a really nice guy,and polite to a fault.
My cousin went to school with him in Dublin near Terenure. He told me that Phil was abandoned by the teachers and he liked to sit at the back of the class writing Poetry / Songs.
@@alanbbrady8196 I imagine the “teachers” were most likely Priests & Nuns as back in the day it was mostly they who taught in schools my mother told me some awful stories of her siblings abuse at the hands of these cruel lunatics She was shy & behaved so was able to avoid most of the smacks it’s crazy while many male were Paedophile child abusers the women too had some part to play when it came to abuse at the hands of the Catholic Church One nun or Sister as they’re known left my auntie with bald patches on her head from pulling her hair, now my late aunt a legend stole the nuns cigarettes while she wasn’t looking she was furious & threatened everybody would get the stick so my aunt owned up But my granny a mother of 16 children died a great great grandmother she wasn’t gonna allow nobody to get away with strealing the hair from her then 11yr old daughter She was a fantastic grandmother I can only imagine that nun as my Nanny struck her with a clatter to the face,, my aunt never went back to school it was common for a lot of kids to be working in factories as young teens many never entered secondary school it would not be allowed in todays Ireland Thank God

True story: His father and my mine became good friends. They went to a danchall for an event and that's where he met his mom. My dad has a photo holding him as a baby.

I don’t blame American interviewers because there’s so much micro history just in American to learn, but it is always a pleasure to see them corrected. The look of bewilderment. I have a Scottish pal as well and Americans for some reason always jump to calling them Irish, so an inside joke is they’re a wee bonnie Irish lass.

I mean, we're taught in school that the UK is Great Britain. So English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish folk are British. They use the Union Jack flag or variants in their celebrations. So, not knowing if someone is Northern Irish or Republic of Ireland Irish, is quite understandable for us.
Lets not forget their were many black Irish who were discriminated against and mistreated that never became famous.

When i was about 10 years of age myself and most of the kids i knew whenever we heard Philo was around Howth we used to hunt him down usually to the cock tavern and day or night we were welcomed in to say hi and get an autograph on a beermat always with a big beautiful smile of his. We always went over to his mother's house near corr bridge. She always treated us way better than we deserved knocking on the door looking for Phil or something of his. She would always say he's away on tour but here is some stuff like flyers plects and anything thin Lizzy related. I never forget their kindness and he was an irish legend we were proud of the fact he loved our village

I identify with all the things that make me WHO I AM and give the same respect to others. French Swedish and Irish are all descendants of indo Europeans, all have similar genetic proportions of the same three ancestral groups, namely western hunter gatherer, early European farmer, and western steppe herder.
Sub Saharan Africans have no ancestry from any of these groups… so Irish, French and Swedish share a common ancestry and culture in a way that sub Saharan Africans do not.

I’ve been in a pub in Dun Laoghaire where Phil used to sing in a Traditional Irish folk group in sixties.as a youngster starting in the music biz. It had loads of Phil’s and Thin Lizzy memorabilia on display. I didn’t stay the night because it was house music night!

@@MrGunnersmad it was on a corner by the shopping centre. It was my first night in the town having had a few on the ferry from Holyhead I’d checked in the B&B had a shower. The building was older than the shopping centre.
