Shortly after my Dad’s death (2013) I wrote to Philomena to tell her of my father’s (and my) appreciation of her son’s music. She took the time, wrote me back, sent me some cool Phil/Lizzy stuff and invited me to the home for a visit. Sadly, I never made good on the invite. Thanks for posting this. Surprised he didn’t compare himself to a pint of Guinness at the start ; )
That's so cool that you remember this. This is the first time I'd seen an interview with him & am very touched at what a gentle soul he was. I just learned he died 5 yrs after this interview. I had hoped he'd have a longer life to enjoy his success & his family. RIP Phil.
What a creepy racist comments to start the interview about the contrast of the white suit. Phil let it roll off like I'm sure he has done a million times before. Truly a gentleman who deserved better from an interviewer. I am a bass player and Phil is one of the few that I have major trouble trying to play his stuff. To sing and play those awesome riffs is tough. What a talented guy, I wish he would have stuck around a bit longer. Thanks for posting this.
Not really... It was a compliment, we do it for anyone, white people in black suits is a contrast. You're reading way too much into it.. this is pure Irish culture, so you sound anti irish
True, but no one can judge if they haven't been addicted to opioids, that shit comes before anything unfortunately, also he had done enough drugs to contract septicemia anyway there was no saving Phil unfortunately

Thanks so much for posting this! I saw this as a kid and haven't seen it since. Such a lovely, lovely guy.

Also Philip knew the presenter Gay Byrne very well and appeared on the show several times. NO racist intentions from Gay.
Nonsense. No racist intentions. Some ppl just love to be offended though.
What a guy. Listen to him nightly before sleep.
Anyone else know where to find the whole interview?
❤❤❤❤❤💔💔💔💔
Philip was great....and more intelligent than all the interviewers
Talks about having the children and responsibilities but then dies from a drug overdose
