If you want to see how Bioware treats it's fans, go and look up their reaction to the Mass Effect 3 backlash, the Re:take Mass Effect group and what is probably the only backlash that bought the dev's cup cakes and the mainstream & gaming media articles at the time (even Yatzhee got in on it). There is a reason anyone who was around at the time for that still holds a lot of anger over it. I'd study it well guys, it'll be a road map of how Bioware responds if Vailguard meets the same negativity.

David Gaider, the lead writer for this? was actually one of the writers of DA:O. Specifically, he wrote the redcliff main story as well as one of the major quest in the Dalish forest. He did some of the world building and a lot of comics. Mind you, his career is a lot of Hits or Misses. I mean, he also worked on the Baldurs Gate 2: Enhanced edition.... Which, frankly, the added material was garbage. He Wrote HK-47, but also Carth Onasi. I think he's kind of lost his marbles. Really though, even if he does his best writing ever (which I doubt- all his best stuff was like ten years ago.) the games still gonna be shit because everything else about it. He's also the only member of the original writing team still at bioware.

It's true that I have discovered DA after DAI , but that was because DAI is my first single player game , since until then I was playing MMO only. And I discovered DAI , not because of romance options, but because of Flemeth and Morrigan, or better said , because Kate Mulgrew and Claudia Black , since I am a Star Trek and Stargate fan . And I never romanced Solas 🤣( it was Cullen) . I started the DA series from the beginning since I knew that the world of Thedas was continued in all the 3 games. I fell in love with DAO because of the hard choices I had to make ( went in absolutely blind, didn't want any spoilers and I had paid heavy prices in my first playtrough) . I liked DA2 , but I didn't particularly got attached to it unfortunately. I absolutely adore DAI , not only because of romance as you imply: I liked the combat which at that time attracted me (playing action mmos was a reason for liking the action combat . But, in DAO I was forced to get out of my comfort zone and use actual tactics to play and looking back now , it was for the best) . Why I don't like DATV ? Yes, might hate the agenda they are pushing, but the fact that they throw the lore out of the window and forget what was the main reason of a DA game , that it is what irks me the most . The last thing? I might love purple , but damn if they don't abuse this color right now .
Did anyone else notice that there is already a continuity error in veilguard. Solas was willing to teach the inquisitor blood magic if he knew it. standard comment if you ask him about blood magic. Yet he tells Rook he abhors blood magic. We already know how hard it is to change solas' mind. So continuity error 1 before the game is actually released

I remember watching Jackdaw's video and thinking it was like seeing your friend talk so happily about their significant other while you know that hoe was cheating on your friend behind their back. He was just talking so positively and upbeat about the choices without even knowing Bioware was pulling the rug out from under us. If they wanted a 'clean slate' they should have done it like Andromeda and got the angst over with from the beginning, instead of leading us on thinking that there's still a chance that this game is everything we wanted it to be.

But we don't talk about that because we don't even know who Zevran is , how can you expect us to know obscure lore and read stuff entombed deep in the games?

Cassandra stuck with it as it was for the most part, leliana gave mages more freedoms and reformed circles into academies, whil vivienne if i recall correctly leashed templars to Divine rule. All of them changed andrastianism and bioware decided that doesn't matter...

Also bioware choosing to ignore legacy of hero of ferelden while one of major factions in Veilguard are grey wardens? Just makes me so furious to think about this... I kinda feel for the Dragon Age fans, Bioware did this to us Mass Effect fans 12 years ago. Rakni Queen, Fate of the Council, what you did with the Krogan, the Batrians, if you chose to save The Destiny Acencion at the expense of 6 Fleet, all of it meant nothing. People get hung up on the ending and it was awful (respect to Maruder Shields, he tried to spare us) but the game had a lot issues with lack of consistency and choice that get overshadowed

In retrospect, ME2 had so many warning signs that at the time we just didn't recorgnise, it dropped the obvious plot hook from 1, the time skip, the addition of a new never before heard of self contained villian in the collectors, the change to the shooting mechanics and the shakey explanation, the removal of all the features that people loved from 1 instead of attempt to refine and improve them, the added grind with the resource scanning etc. Although 2 was a good game, it was all indivicative of a changing team and declining franchise/studio, final warning sign should of been the 3rd tie in book, different author, not as well edited or written and introducing their stupid ninja villan, but that's hind sight, at the time, we just didn't know the warning signs to look for. I do agree that ME3 should of just been a brutal war (where were my Elcor living tanks Bioware!), but the real thing they missed was the key theme of the galaxy coming together as never before, getting everyone onside and together being was gives a proper chance to win not some stupid space magic maguffin with the DLC's focused on dealing with the aftermath. I don't think the extra year would of helped though, they had just locked in to many bad decisions that they'd convinced themselves were good by their own arrogance (I remember the video of a dev talking about the negative feedback over planet scanning and stating it was staying becuase he enjoyed it, that's the problem with the development right there)

Sorry to disappoint you but if they didn’t sell Command and Conquer then aren’t selling Dragon Age. It comes down who would want to buy it and not many company have an interest in making a new Dragon Age game especially if they can just create their own.
This is the exact same thing that happened to Star Wars Disney had a audience that was already loyal to the brand for decades. Literally all they had to do was make films and shows based off of the dozens of books, comics, or games that already expanded from the original trilogy but instead allowed activists to corrupt and change the franchise for a "modern audience" that NEVER liked Star Wars to begin with. To reiterate, the original Star Wars fan base was willing to spend hundreds of dollars on cardboard cutouts and toilet paper that had the SW logo on them. These were fans that were willing to fight off crowds of children just to get the toys of upcoming characters that they believed would have been collector's items. Disney (and Kennedy) took one look and said "We don't want THOSE fans! We want the MODERN fans!" You know, the college age activists that complain about how expensive streaming services are, that have said things like "Eat the Rich", "Destroy giant corporations", "Redistribute the wealth", and have on numerous occasions complained about how Disney had created bad standards for young women to follow by saying that all the classic Disney princesses are poisoning the minds of women? Yeah. Those are the PERFECT people to try and sell a sci-fi fantasy series to.

Crem, Iron Bull, Cole, 1 Main Quest in DAI & the Tresspaser Expansion. What makes this worse is that Sheryl Chee is STILL on the writing staff what is She responsible for? Oh just…Main Quest Story support for Origins, Awakening & DA2. The Mage Origins, Urn of Sacred Ashes & Broken Circle & was the character writer for OG Cullen, Wynne, Oghren, Sigrunn, Velanna, Blackwall & Leliana (in DAI) the World of Thedas B1 & B2. So explain to me why as the longest & most experienced DA writer left in BioWare is NOT the Lead story writer. Especially the one who literally wrote the book on Thedas & all the OG quests surrounding Mages, The Cirle of Magi & Andraste.

As controversial as the final ending of mass effect 3 was, what it did well was ensuring that throughout the game, you could see how your choices in mass effect 1 & 2 impacted the way in which rally the forces across the galaxy to put aside their political conflicts & past hostilities, in order to unite against a common greater threat. For dragon age "the veil guard" I thought this would be a great opportunity to build upon to foundations in dragon age origins regarding tears in the veil and the "black city", to build upon the lore expansion of "old gods" that inquisition expanded upon. Instead of having your past choices impact the different groups and factions you are about to rally/be involved in the fight against the greater threat of elven/"old gods", you only have 3 choices that actually matter. Doesn't matter what happened to the dalish elf/werewolf confrontation in origins. Doesn't matter whether ferelden is ruled by Alistair/loghain & anora/the warden (as queen) who have previous experience in slaying an arch demon Doesn't matter whether hawke took the side of the mages Vs templars in dragon age 2 Doesn't matter whether the warden in origins is a commander of the grey in dragon age awakening. Doesn't matter whether the dark ritual occured which transferred the essence of an old god into Morrigans child which would be grown up with the power of an archdemon. Doesn't matter whether the warden went through the portal to raise this child with Morrigan. The series has moved away from the importance of blood magic, the taint, and the apparent greater threat of the black city in the fade. Otherwise, the veil guard would have been a golden opportunity to build upon this theme of blood & taint in line with the greater threat of the black city emerging from tears in the veil, where the first dark spawn were created that is historically the number one greatest threat to the world of Thedas. It's saddening that they want to move away from such a great foundation and start a fresh, and disappointing that the intention of starting fresh appears to be due to laziness of tying complex previous choices into the story, and a focus on changing the core themes of dragon age. Dragon age isn't "inherently queer". It's inherently bloody from the importance that blood and taint has on the overarching greatest historical threat to the world of Thedas. You're right. Dragon age the veil guard does not care about us, does not care about our investment in the world building of the franchise from previous games, and does not respect the efforts that the old developers put into carefully constructing a bloody world that had an identity of its own.
True, Hans Zimmer could've hearkened back to previous Dragon Age themes instead of churning out his usual Superman or Lion King creations. Continuity is actually one of the SOPs for any creative professional, so it's not too big of an ask.
First time I’ve ever refunded a preorder the way dragon age veil guard was mishandled is abysmal I held out hope Al the way until they said 3 choices when they said that I couldn’t refund fast enough by not giving us a world state you invalidated choices because the world now has a default state without the choices mattering it means we are all playing the same world state

As a Bi man I hate being treated like a checkbox. I want individuals who are characters first sexuality second. Prince Olivert comes to mind from the Trails series, at first he comes off as a foppish bard but deap down he is a very intelligent goal driven man wanting to change his homeland for the better. He flirts with the party members but it's shown later that he's exagerating his personality to reduce suspicion by playing up the fool as he likes to keep his true intellect close to the chest, it turns the Bard stereotype on it's head. My absolute favourite character of the RPG genre.
I've talked to my friend about all of these choices and my god, there are so many to account for. We talked for hours about how different this and that would be if the HoF and Hawke are still alive. There is no world where the events in Veilguard wouldn't initiate an Avengers level event if the HoF and Hawke are still around and kicking. It's the literal end of days. I doubt they're too busy to save the goddamn world. One huge choice in Inquisition, that should've been included, was deciding who drank from the Well of Sorrows. Depending on whom, either Inky or Morrigan is going to be a huge liability against Solas, who seems to have Mythal's powers/essence, so he could probably control them the same way Flemmeth did. And again with Morrigan, Kieran existing is a big deal, Old God or not. So many choices to account for just thrown out the window.
Developers across the board need to stop putting out unfinished products. Why does every single game these days require a day 1 patch? What happened to just putting out a finished product for the consumer? That would be like me buying a car, paying full price, and there’s no doors on the vehicle. “Uh we’ll put the doors on after you buy it. In fact, on day one we’ll put A door on the vehicle.” Like wtf? I’m playing games that have been out for years that are still crashing for no reason whatsoever. I’m playing Kingdom Come Deliverance, which is a good game, but has been out for like 7 years and still just randomly crashes. It’s especially bad in that game since you have limited saves and it only automatically saves at specific points in a quest. It’s incredibly infuriating.

Bro YOU LITERALLY HAVE SOLAS THEME JUST EXTEND IT MAN! I wasn't a massive man of Inquisition, but the Tresspasser music was beautiful! It fit him so well. It gave off the vibe that he's willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goal. Whoever thinks the Veilguard theme beats that theme you must be insane. Also the world state will most likely either not be mentioned, OR they'll go with the default world state, so it's basically a "congrats nothing you did mattered"
Hans Zimmer my foot. I miss Inon Zur's themes, they had personality.... they were different from anything else. Edit: you could just tell by the instruments used in the orchestrations, they were unique, and NOT typical orchestra strings and drums.
Every time I hear the first notes from DA: Origins OST, it literally gives me goosebumps. Every single time. A chill down my spine. And all the heavy-hearted moments come to mind, and after that the whole amazing journey I lived and breathed in the game, with my warden. Love the music from the second and third game, too, but nothing beats the first game. And yes, I did unsubscribe from the youtuber guy's chanell a while ago, because of what you also mentioned. Veilguard isn't gonna be fine, it's not right to still trust the developers. This is fake, toxic positivism. The developers should make their stand and take the blows because they deserve it. But they'll hide and blame the flop on others, I guess.
I think with Bioware the same thing has happened to them that has happened to Ubisoft. So even if you're a dev who wants to make something with edge, you can't because you will offend someone else internally than you get taken to HR.

Several reboots...lost all key creatives over the years, writers are atrocious, no talent slogs. Yet in promo stuff they act like the battle system, not being able to control your companions etc was a deliberate choice...bitch you were forced to make systems that are easier and faster to develop, because of how fucked development was...same goes for zones and areas...this will be the FFX equivalent of DA, tunnels and corridors everywhere. I bought all DLC for Origins and Inquisition back in the day...and I rarely buy any DLC...hell I bought Anthem day 1...that's how much I supported Bioware. And I don't plan to give Veilguard even a chance until it's in a 10 bucks bargain bin at this point...

I just feel like this game was made for the cringey Dragon Age UA-camrs and fan artists that dwell on Reddit. Certainly Bioware took feedback from them which is mistake because they are far removed from the normal everyday Dragon Age fans. Dragon Age is my favourite RPG franchise and I been there since the beginning but I can not stomach watching Dragon Age UA-camr content. Someone should go the Bioware and slap some sense into them and tell them to make a game for normal people and normal Dragon Age fans not this bland, dumb downed garbage. The characters are ugly, the combat looks made for the lowest common denominator and the art style is childish. It is a shame.

What pisses me off are all these people dismissing critisism as being from tourists. Ive played hundreds of hours in each of the first 3 games, but yet nope, im a "tourist". So close to canceling my preorder, i know i shouldnt have preordered in the first place but i was too attached to the series. What infuriates me the most about this, is that they said “What’s happening now, doesn’t affect the rest of Thedas”. Oh, oh, really? Solas wanting to tear down the Veil, you know, the barrier between the Fade and all of Thedas, the only thing keeping demons from entering Thedas and destroying the world, something that we spent an entire previous game STOPPING that from happening, something that was so serious that groups and people from all over Thedas came together (Dorian:Tevitar, Ironbull:The Qun, The Qun offer to help aid the Inquisition, Nevarra, Orlais, The seekers, The wardens, the Dalish, the dwarves) to stop it from happening? Really? Really.
I think the biggest issue with Veilguard's writing is that they didn't have a clear vision of what they wanted to do, just like you said in the video. They didn't have someone who could properly lead and make the important decisions, so they ended up compromising on *every choice*, and made a complete mess.
I wouldn't even say it's just because Dragon Age was forgotten about, Bioware's reputation has taken a huge hit since Dragon Age 2. The studio is nearly unrecognizable as the pioneer and pillar of rpg studio, this game had so many hopes and expectations (even bad ones).
The dragon age themes always encapsulated the old english vibes with classic instruments and vocals. The new theme for veilguard is GENERIC, which makes sense cause Bioware has completely forgotten the concept of one of their most popular franchises.
All they had to do was to write a statement that your choices matter, but you are on a new continent and you won't meet those characters which were affected by your choices.
It's not the characters that are affected. Thedas is a continent with different nations and kingdoms. There's politics at work. And you are telling me they never, not once, mention about that one time the Hero of Ferelden, and (conditionally) Queen/King, saved the world? Or that pesky Mage-Templar war that caused ripples all the way to Rivain?

For example as you mentioned, the hero of ferelden A: -dies fighting the archdemon and saves Ferelden B: -survives the fighting with the archdemon and saves Ferelden "Do you remember those times when an unknown hero saved Ferelden from the blight" All they had to do was put this reference about him, like a codex, or a statue of an an amored person somewhere in Tevinter with two priests talking about him, or Morrigan telling you about him what a fierce warrior he was, while you can never reach his level. This would satisfy the gamerbase by a little ammount. But the dev team is incompetent, so they went like this.
I guess there's Iron Bull is dead. One of the major choices is whether your Inquisitor romanced Solas. Who could.only be romanced by a Female Elf. The only meaningful romwace accordong to Veilguard. Reduced to a toggle. Like breast surgery scars. What a joke. This game is nothing more than correcting a shoehorning of a trans since Inquisition (Krem) - the first question the Inquisitor can ask "ARE YOU A WOMAN?!" This will have nothing on Baldurs Gate 3. Which is one of the most woke games I've ever seen and it refrains from ramming the woke shit down my throat out of the blue.

The saddest part of all this is that if veilguard flops, we probably won't get another Dragon Age anytime soon, maybe never. Which isn't that bad, after all, Bioware already destroyed the franchise. The only thing left to do would be a reboot, but I find it unlikely to happen.
Dragon Age Origins is the benchmark that all other Dragon Age games should follow, and so far none of them have. Dragon Age 2 made unnecessary changes to the visual identity of the series, lanky elves, completely different darkspawn and Qunaari appearances, Isabella, Merril's accent, all of which were perfectly fine the way they were. What i do appreciate about Dragon Age 2 is that the tone and the storytelling feels like Dragon Age. If we pretend the visual retcons were undone or atleast not standardized across the board, DA2 serves as a worthwhile spinoff to Dragon Age Origins. Inquisition and its DLC starts to make large and unneeded alterations to stuff like Alistair's backstory, who his mother was (while not allowing them to even have any worthwhile interactions ingame making it pointless) and a sizable component of what Inquisition was meant to have, the war system, was cut, and it shows. The gameplay feels better and like a more faithful blend of Origins and DA2, but Inquisition lacks heavily in the Dark Fantasy roots that Origins is steeped in. It feels more like a high fantasy reimagining of what Dragon Age is supposed to be. The returning characters we actually care about steal the show 100%, and i don't feel very attached to the Inquisitor as a concept compared to our Gray Warden or even Hawke.
EA is solely responsible for the disaster that was DA2. They forced Bioware to put out the game after only 14 months of development and wanted it to specifically cater to console gamers.
New information from Bioware shows that Veilguard was completely restarted in 2021. They went "Gold" middle of 2023 so they had 18 months of development of this game. No wonder they haven't included choices, removed gameplay mechanics etc. It's a rushed game that placed LGBTQ fetishism over everything else
I'm so relived that the choices will not be carried away, because that means it is not a sequence, so there's nothing that attach me to this shit. I can just let it go, there's not even one reason to play it now.
They said that the decisions are not going to be erased, it's just that they are not going to have an impact on history. Ex: with respect to the king of Ferelden, the fact that it is not taken into account as a decision means that it will not only be mentioned at any time. Since the plot is going to take place in the north of Thedas, as for the divine, I think it must be through Tevinter since they have their own "divine" in this divine case, now what makes me noise is who drank from the well? Does that mean it won't have any impact on the story? Or is Morrigan not going to mention anything about her son? It is true that Kieran is already a normal human without the soul of a god but hey, I expected at least one mention
The main theme has no recognizable leitmotif. But even if it was on the level of Origins, I doubt it would save this POS game. They got the fanservice wrong, too, starting with the bland art style and character design. Barely anyone wants to F these characters lol Also, I agree on why they chose Busche and Epler for their respective roles in this game is that no one else was available. I am heart-broken, if this true... but I also had a thought: SPOILERS FOR VELGAURD AHEAD I saw a video of Rook living through Solas' memories. There was a moment when Rooke was able to choose Solas' feelings and therefore reaction on the dialogue wheel. It made me think that maybe the other key choices of the previous games will be presented throughout the game for us to choose in the same way for a full experience: in conversation. There is no way that they are trying to continue this storyline bringing in the Inquisitor and Morrigan without addressing AT LEAST who drank from the Well of Sorrows. It makes no sense. Also, everything that we have seen so far is all from the first act of the game. There are more to come that we have not yet witnessed in full. We don't know what will happen with the others. They could ask new questions at the beginning of each new Act. In these Dragon Age, they always enhance the features that are unique to the games. If they are going to improve one thing about it, then they are going to improve EVERYTHING. But Idk... it could be my wishful thinking striking again. It could be my faith in the Maker. All I have is hope at this point. Feel free to pitch in anything I am overlooking.
It's actually very conveniet for the devs that Val Royeaux and Denerim were just destroyed by the Blight in such a short period. As for the theme song I remember Borislav Slavov talking at BAFTA about what was important for him when creating the BG3 main theme , he said it needed to be memorable, strong, give emotion and be versatile or as he said scalable, which means you need to hear its presence through any moment because the theme can actually adapt to that moment for example epic (opening theme ) , romantic (down by the river) , ballad ( alfira song "weeping dawn"), malinconic (I want to live) , melodic (harpy song) and so go on, like you can immediatly say by hearing any of these "hey, this is from bg3" because the core of the Main theme is well tight within them.
You make great points, and I agree. There is no unique sound in that Zimmer track they dropped for DAV. To me, it just sounds soulless like the rest of the game seems to be. Also, I'm beginning to think that they wanted this game to be a part of the culture war. That's why they've marketed it with every culture war word salad and dog whistle they could come up with. That's why I think the double mastectomy scars aren't categorized with the rest of the scars. I'm beginning to believe they knew this game was gonna piss people off so they're using the culture war as a shield against legitimate criticisms and to rally people who would normally either not play this game, or not want to play this game, to defend it. I believe the backlash Bethesda got for Starfield was deserved because it was a long time coming. They've been getting lazier with their storytelling and worse with the game design for years. I feel the same way about BioWare, and if this flops, which I think is likely, it will be deserved.
Biowares got previous for this, when Mass Effecf 3 released and got backlash they went straight to fan attacks zero hesitation, back then the dog whistle was protecting their 'artistic integrity' (even typing that makes me feel dirty) and they used it to bluegeon the fanbase with every games media contact they had while the fanbase tried to be reasonable and polite. The staffers at a studio may believe in this culture war stuff, but to the execs running the studio and publisher it's just another shield they can hide a substandard game behind.

If you want to see how Bioware treats it's fans, go and look up their reaction to the Mass Effect 3 backlash, the Re:take Mass Effect group and what is probably the only backlash that bought the dev's cup cakes and the mainstream & gaming media articles at the time (even Yatzhee got in on it). There is a reason anyone who was around at the time for that still holds a lot of anger over it. I'd study it well guys, it'll be a road map of how Bioware responds if Vailguard meets the same negativity.

David Gaider, the lead writer for this? was actually one of the writers of DA:O. Specifically, he wrote the redcliff main story as well as one of the major quest in the Dalish forest.
He did some of the world building and a lot of comics.
Mind you, his career is a lot of Hits or Misses. I mean, he also worked on the Baldurs Gate 2: Enhanced edition.... Which, frankly, the added material was garbage.
He Wrote HK-47, but also Carth Onasi.
I think he's kind of lost his marbles.
Really though, even if he does his best writing ever (which I doubt- all his best stuff was like ten years ago.) the games still gonna be shit because everything else about it.

I fell in love with DAO because of the hard choices I had to make ( went in absolutely blind, didn't want any spoilers and I had paid heavy prices in my first playtrough) . I liked DA2 , but I didn't particularly got attached to it unfortunately. I absolutely adore DAI , not only because of romance as you imply: I liked the combat which at that time attracted me (playing action mmos was a reason for liking the action combat . But, in DAO I was forced to get out of my comfort zone and use actual tactics to play and looking back now , it was for the best) . Why I don't like DATV ? Yes, might hate the agenda they are pushing, but the fact that they throw the lore out of the window and forget what was the main reason of a DA game , that it is what irks me the most . The last thing? I might love purple , but damn if they don't abuse this color right now .

Oh I've written several walls of text in the replies of UA-cam about the rampant and flagrant retconning that's occurred in this game. I mean the retcons started back in DA:Awakenings, but this game takes it to a WHOLE new level.

I remember watching Jackdaw's video and thinking it was like seeing your friend talk so happily about their significant other while you know that hoe was cheating on your friend behind their back. He was just talking so positively and upbeat about the choices without even knowing Bioware was pulling the rug out from under us. If they wanted a 'clean slate' they should have done it like Andromeda and got the angst over with from the beginning, instead of leading us on thinking that there's still a chance that this game is everything we wanted it to be.

All of this! And different Divine reshaped the system their own way. Cassandra stuck with it as it was for the most part, leliana gave mages more freedoms and reformed circles into academies, whil vivienne if i recall correctly leashed templars to Divine rule.

I kinda feel for the Dragon Age fans, Bioware did this to us Mass Effect fans 12 years ago. Rakni Queen, Fate of the Council, what you did with the Krogan, the Batrians, if you chose to save The Destiny Acencion at the expense of 6 Fleet, all of it meant nothing. People get hung up on the ending and it was awful (respect to Maruder Shields, he tried to spare us) but the game had a lot issues with lack of consistency and choice that get overshadowed

In retrospect, ME2 had so many warning signs that at the time we just didn't recorgnise, it dropped the obvious plot hook from 1, the time skip, the addition of a new never before heard of self contained villian in the collectors, the change to the shooting mechanics and the shakey explanation, the removal of all the features that people loved from 1 instead of attempt to refine and improve them, the added grind with the resource scanning etc.
Although 2 was a good game, it was all indivicative of a changing team and declining franchise/studio, final warning sign should of been the 3rd tie in book, different author, not as well edited or written and introducing their stupid ninja villan, but that's hind sight, at the time, we just didn't know the warning signs to look for.
I do agree that ME3 should of just been a brutal war (where were my Elcor living tanks Bioware!), but the real thing they missed was the key theme of the galaxy coming together as never before, getting everyone onside and together being was gives a proper chance to win not some stupid space magic maguffin with the DLC's focused on dealing with the aftermath.
I don't think the extra year would of helped though, they had just locked in to many bad decisions that they'd convinced themselves were good by their own arrogance (I remember the video of a dev talking about the negative feedback over planet scanning and stating it was staying becuase he enjoyed it, that's the problem with the development right there)

Disney had a audience that was already loyal to the brand for decades. Literally all they had to do was make films and shows based off of the dozens of books, comics, or games that already expanded from the original trilogy but instead allowed activists to corrupt and change the franchise for a "modern audience" that NEVER liked Star Wars to begin with.
To reiterate, the original Star Wars fan base was willing to spend hundreds of dollars on cardboard cutouts and toilet paper that had the SW logo on them. These were fans that were willing to fight off crowds of children just to get the toys of upcoming characters that they believed would have been collector's items.
Disney (and Kennedy) took one look and said "We don't want THOSE fans! We want the MODERN fans!"
You know, the college age activists that complain about how expensive streaming services are, that have said things like "Eat the Rich", "Destroy giant corporations", "Redistribute the wealth", and have on numerous occasions complained about how Disney had created bad standards for young women to follow by saying that all the classic Disney princesses are poisoning the minds of women? To be fair, it has been a gradual decline, the management at BioWare replays on crunch time to get these games out the door and that will eventually led to burn out which leads to people quitting or not caring about their jobs anymore, that’s what missing; genuine passion. 4 years about I think their was a mass exodus of talented and now i suspect creatives people who wanted to work away from Game Development because working conditions sucked.

So here it is: Lead writer is Trick (formerly Patrick) Weekes & was David Gaiders replacement. What are their (His) contributions to the franchise? Crem, Iron Bull, Cole, 1 Main Quest in DAI & the Tresspaser Expansion.
What makes this worse is that Sheryl Chee is STILL on the writing staff what is She responsible for? Oh just…Main Quest Story support for Origins, Awakening & DA2. The Mage Origins, Urn of Sacred Ashes & Broken Circle & was the character writer for OG Cullen, Wynne, Oghren, Sigrunn, Velanna, Blackwall & Leliana (in DAI) the World of Thedas B1 & B2.
So explain to me why as the longest & most experienced DA writer left in BioWare is NOT the Lead story writer. Especially the one who literally wrote the book on Thedas & all the OG quests surrounding Mages, The Cirle of Magi & Andraste.
Because she's either spoken against some creative choices or she doesn't want to be blamed for other people's bad decisions.

As controversial as the final ending of mass effect 3 was, what it did well was ensuring that throughout the game, you could see how your choices in mass effect 1 & 2 impacted the way in which rally the forces across the galaxy to put aside their political conflicts & past hostilities, in order to unite against a common greater threat.
For dragon age "the veil guard" I thought this would be a great opportunity to build upon to foundations in dragon age origins regarding tears in the veil and the "black city", to build upon the lore expansion of "old gods" that inquisition expanded upon. Instead of having your past choices impact the different groups and factions you are about to rally/be involved in the fight against the greater threat of elven/"old gods", you only have 3 choices that actually matter.
Doesn't matter what happened to the dalish elf/werewolf confrontation in origins.
Doesn't matter whether ferelden is ruled by Alistair/loghain & anora/the warden (as queen) who have previous experience in slaying an arch demon
Doesn't matter whether hawke took the side of the mages Vs templars in dragon age 2
Doesn't matter whether the warden in origins is a commander of the grey in dragon age awakening.
Doesn't matter whether the dark ritual occured which transferred the essence of an old god into Morrigans child which would be grown up with the power of an archdemon. Doesn't matter whether the warden went through the portal to raise this child with Morrigan.
The series has moved away from the importance of blood magic, the taint, and the apparent greater threat of the black city in the fade. Otherwise, the veil guard would have been a golden opportunity to build upon this theme of blood & taint in line with the greater threat of the black city emerging from tears in the veil, where the first dark spawn were created that is historically the number one greatest threat to the world of Thedas.
It's saddening that they want to move away from such a great foundation and start a fresh, and disappointing that the intention of starting fresh appears to be due to laziness of tying complex previous choices into the story, and a focus on changing the core themes of dragon age. Dragon age isn't "inherently queer". It's inherently bloody from the importance that blood and taint has on the overarching greatest historical threat to the world of Thedas.
You're right. Dragon age the veil guard does not care about us, does not care about our investment in the world building of the franchise from previous games, and does not respect the efforts that the old developers put into carefully constructing a bloody world that had an identity of its own.

First time I’ve ever refunded a preorder the way dragon age veil guard was mishandled is abysmal I held out hope Al the way until they said 3 choices when they said that I couldn’t refund fast enough by not giving us a world state you invalidated choices because the world now has a default state without the choices mattering it means we are all playing the same world state

Prince Olivert comes to mind from the Trails series, at first he comes off as a foppish bard but deap down he is a very intelligent goal driven man wanting to change his homeland for the better. He flirts with the party members but it's shown later that he's exagerating his personality to reduce suspicion by playing up the fool as he likes to keep his true intellect close to the chest, it turns the Bard stereotype on it's head. My absolute favourite character of the RPG genre.

I've talked to my friend about all of these choices and my god, there are so many to account for. We talked for hours about how different this and that would be if the HoF and Hawke are still alive. There is no world where the events in Veilguard wouldn't initiate an Avengers level event if the HoF and Hawke are still around and kicking. It's the literal end of days. I doubt they're too busy to save the goddamn world. One huge choice in Inquisition, that should've been included, was deciding who drank from the Well of Sorrows. Depending on whom, either Inky or Morrigan is going to be a huge liability against Solas, who seems to have Mythal's powers/essence, so he could probably control them the same way Flemmeth did. And again with Morrigan, Kieran existing is a big deal, Old God or not. So many choices to account for just thrown out the window.
Developers across the board need to stop putting out unfinished products. Why does every single game these days require a day 1 patch? What happened to just putting out a finished product for the consumer? That would be like me buying a car, paying full price, and there’s no doors on the vehicle. “Uh we’ll put the doors on after you buy it. In fact, on day one we’ll put A door on the vehicle.” Like wtf? I’m playing games that have been out for years that are still crashing for no reason whatsoever. I’m playing Kingdom Come Deliverance, which is a good game, but has been out for like 7 years and still just randomly crashes. It’s especially bad in that game since you have limited saves and it only automatically saves at specific points in a quest. It’s incredibly infuriating.

Bro YOU LITERALLY HAVE SOLAS THEME JUST EXTEND IT MAN! I wasn't a massive man of Inquisition, but the Tresspasser music was beautiful! It fit him so well. It gave off the vibe that he's willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goal. Whoever thinks the Veilguard theme beats that theme you must be insane. Also the world state will most likely either not be mentioned, OR they'll go with the default world state, so it's basically a "congrats nothing you did mattered"

Hans Zimmer my foot. I miss Inon Zur's themes, they had personality.... they were different from anything else. Edit: you could just tell by the instruments used in the orchestrations, they were unique, and NOT typical orchestra strings and drums.
Every time I hear the first notes from DA: Origins OST, it literally gives me goosebumps. Every single time. A chill down my spine. And all the heavy-hearted moments come to mind, and after that the whole amazing journey I lived and breathed in the game, with my warden. Love the music from the second and third game, too, but nothing beats the first game.
And yes, I did unsubscribe from the youtuber guy's chanell a while ago, because of what you also mentioned. Veilguard isn't gonna be fine, it's not right to still trust the developers. This is fake, toxic positivism. The developers should make their stand and take the blows because they deserve it. But they'll hide and blame the flop on others, I guess.

I think with Bioware the same thing has happened to them that has happened to Ubisoft. So even if you're a dev who wants to make something with edge, you can't because you will offend someone else internally than you get taken to HR.

Yet in promo stuff they act like the battle system, not being able to control your companions etc was a deliberate choice...bitch you were forced to make systems that are easier and faster to develop, because of how fucked development was...same goes for zones and areas...this will be the FFX equivalent of DA, tunnels and corridors everywhere.
I bought all DLC for Origins and Inquisition back in the day...and I rarely buy any DLC...hell I bought Anthem day 1...that's how much I supported Bioware.
And I don't plan to give Veilguard even a chance until it's in a 10 bucks bargain bin at this point...

I just feel like this game was made for the cringey Dragon Age UA-camrs and fan artists that dwell on Reddit. Certainly Bioware took feedback from them which is mistake because they are far removed from the normal everyday Dragon Age fans. Dragon Age is my favourite RPG franchise and I been there since the beginning but I can not stomach watching Dragon Age UA-camr content. Someone should go the Bioware and slap some sense into them and tell them to make a game for normal people and normal Dragon Age fans not this bland, dumb downed garbage. The characters are ugly, the combat looks made for the lowest common denominator and the art style is childish. It is a shame.

What infuriates me the most about this, is that they said “What’s happening now, doesn’t affect the rest of Thedas”. Oh, oh, really? Solas wanting to tear down the Veil, you know, the barrier between the Fade and all of Thedas, the only thing keeping demons from entering Thedas and destroying the world, something that we spent an entire previous game STOPPING that from happening, something that was so serious that groups and people from all over Thedas came together (Dorian:Tevitar, Ironbull:The Qun, The Qun offer to help aid the Inquisition, Nevarra, Orlais, The seekers, The wardens, the Dalish, the dwarves) to stop it from happening? Really? Really.
I think the biggest issue with Veilguard's writing is that they didn't have a clear vision of what they wanted to do, just like you said in the video. They didn't have someone who could properly lead and make the important decisions, so they ended up compromising on *every choice*, and made a complete mess.
I wouldn't even say it's just because Dragon Age was forgotten about, Bioware's reputation has taken a huge hit since Dragon Age 2. The studio is nearly unrecognizable as the pioneer and pillar of rpg studio, this game had so many hopes and expectations (even bad ones).
DAI looks so good I might replay it again crazy it came out 10 years ago.

I like Stolas but the fact that the only choices the devs seem to care about revolve around Stolas romance is extremely unfair.
Hearing the good ol' Origins theme still makes my eyes well up a bit. Brings me back to simpler times.
The dragon age themes always encapsulated the old english vibes with classic instruments and vocals. The new theme for veilguard is GENERIC, which makes sense cause Bioware has completely forgotten the concept of one of their most popular franchises.
All they had to do was to write a statement that your choices matter, but you are on a new continent and you won't meet those characters which were affected by your choices.
It's not the characters that are affected. Thedas is a continent with different nations and kingdoms. There's politics at work. And you are telling me they never, not once, mention about that one time the Hero of Ferelden, and (conditionally) Queen/King, saved the world? Or that pesky Mage-Templar war that caused ripples all the way to Rivain?

I guess there's Iron Bull is dead. One of the major choices is whether your Inquisitor romanced Solas. Who could.only be romanced by a Female Elf. The only meaningful romwace accordong to Veilguard. Reduced to a toggle. Like breast surgery scars.

The saddest part of all this is that if veilguard flops, we probably won't get another Dragon Age anytime soon, maybe never. Which isn't that bad, after all, Bioware already destroyed the franchise. The only thing left to do would be a reboot, but I find it unlikely to happen.
Dragon Age Origins is the benchmark that all other Dragon Age games should follow, and so far none of them have. Dragon Age 2 made unnecessary changes to the visual identity of the series, lanky elves, completely different darkspawn and Qunaari appearances, Isabella, Merril's accent, all of which were perfectly fine the way they were. What i do appreciate about Dragon Age 2 is that the tone and the storytelling feels like Dragon Age. If we pretend the visual retcons were undone or atleast not standardized across the board, DA2 serves as a worthwhile spinoff to Dragon Age Origins. Inquisition and its DLC starts to make large and unneeded alterations to stuff like Alistair's backstory, who his mother was (while not allowing them to even have any worthwhile interactions ingame making it pointless) and a sizable component of what Inquisition was meant to have, the war system, was cut, and it shows. The gameplay feels better and like a more faithful blend of Origins and DA2, but Inquisition lacks heavily in the Dark Fantasy roots that Origins is steeped in. It feels more like a high fantasy reimagining of what Dragon Age is supposed to be. The returning characters we actually care about steal the show 100%, and i don't feel very attached to the Inquisitor as a concept compared to our Gray Warden or even Hawke.
EA is solely responsible for the disaster that was DA2. They forced Bioware to put out the game after only 14 months of development and wanted it to specifically cater to console gamers.
Thank goodness we have surgery scars in the era of magic, potions, clerics and mage's.

They literally just butchered DA, took the things they liked or found in their playtroughs and just went and made Veilguard.
New information from Bioware shows that Veilguard was completely restarted in 2021.
They went "Gold" middle of 2023 so they had 18 months of development of this game.
No wonder they haven't included choices, removed gameplay mechanics etc. It's a rushed game that placed LGBTQ fetishism over everything else

They said that the decisions are not going to be erased, it's just that they are not going to have an impact on history. Ex: with respect to the king of Ferelden, the fact that it is not taken into account as a decision means that it will not only be mentioned at any time. Since the plot is going to take place in the north of Thedas, as for the divine, I think it must be through Tevinter since they have their own "divine" in this divine case, now what makes me noise is who drank from the well? Does that mean it won't have any impact on the story? Or is Morrigan not going to mention anything about her son? It is true that Kieran is already a normal human without the soul of a god but hey, I expected at least one mention

BG3 Soundtrack: 3 years later, I still get goosebumps and have a huge smile after the first ten seconds
DOS:2 soundtrack: 5 years later, immediate goosebumps and I start remembering my favourite quests.
DA:V soundtrack: Oh we're listening to the soundtrack? I guess it makes OK background music while I'm working or cleaning the house?
Like everything with this game, it's "fine". It's not shit, it's not great, it's just "fine".
I can't even blame the composer, because I GUARANTEE that the description the writers and director game him for the feel and theme of the game was (enter the usual 20 minute word salad that the lead dev keeps spouting every damn time she opens her mouth... "blah blah hand crafted, blah blah highly curated, blah blah high drama, blah blah most tactical and inclusive DA game ever). If that's what he got, I'm not surprised the music is as confused about what it actually is as the GAME is.

I saw a video of Rook living through Solas' memories. There was a moment when Rooke was able to choose Solas' feelings and therefore reaction on the dialogue wheel. It made me think that maybe the other key choices of the previous games will be presented throughout the game for us to choose in the same way for a full experience: in conversation. There is no way that they are trying to continue this storyline bringing in the Inquisitor and Morrigan without addressing AT LEAST who drank from the Well of Sorrows. It makes no sense. Also, everything that we have seen so far is all from the first act of the game. There are more to come that we have not yet witnessed in full. We don't know what will happen with the others. They could ask new questions at the beginning of each new Act. In these Dragon Age, they always enhance the features that are unique to the games. If they are going to improve one thing about it, then they are going to improve EVERYTHING. But Idk... it could be my wishful thinking striking again. It could be my faith in the Maker. All I have is hope at this point. Feel free to pitch in anything I am overlooking.
They killed Dragon Age for me and now thery are killing Ghost of Tsushima.

It's actually very conveniet for the devs that Val Royeaux and Denerim were just destroyed by the Blight in such a short period. As for the theme song I remember Borislav Slavov talking at BAFTA about what was important for him when creating the BG3 main theme , he said it needed to be memorable, strong, give emotion and be versatile or as he said scalable, which means you need to hear its presence through any moment because the theme can actually adapt to that moment for example epic (opening theme ) , romantic (down by the river) , ballad ( alfira song "weeping dawn"), malinconic (I want to live) , melodic (harpy song) and so go on, like you can immediatly say by hearing any of these "hey, this is from bg3" because the core of the Main theme is well tight within them.

You make great points, and I agree. There is no unique sound in that Zimmer track they dropped for DAV. To me, it just sounds soulless like the rest of the game seems to be.
Also, I'm beginning to think that they wanted this game to be a part of the culture war. That's why they've marketed it with every culture war word salad and dog whistle they could come up with. That's why I think the double mastectomy scars aren't categorized with the rest of the scars. I'm beginning to believe they knew this game was gonna piss people off so they're using the culture war as a shield against legitimate criticisms and to rally people who would normally either not play this game, or not want to play this game, to defend it.
I believe the backlash Bethesda got for Starfield was deserved because it was a long time coming. They've been getting lazier with their storytelling and worse with the game design for years. I feel the same way about BioWare, and if this flops, which I think is likely, it will be deserved.
Biowares got previous for this, when Mass Effecf 3 released and got backlash they went straight to fan attacks zero hesitation, back then the dog whistle was protecting their 'artistic integrity' (even typing that makes me feel dirty) and they used it to bluegeon the fanbase with every games media contact they had while the fanbase tried to be reasonable and polite. The staffers at a studio may believe in this culture war stuff, but to the execs running the studio and publisher it's just another shield they can hide a substandard game behind.
