CAREFUL: Not all supercharger rebuilds are created equal | Horsepower United

- Don't get me wrong, I am all about finding ways to save a buck here and there, and my videos here on UA-cam prove that. But I really hate seeing people spend money twice, due to something being done improperly. So something that seems like a "cheap" alternative, could end up costing you MORE in the long run. :(
Modern superchargers can turn upwards of 76,000 rpm!!! Just think about that for a second, thats nearly 10 times faster then your engine is turning! With that kinda speed, having precise parts that are balanced really comes into play.
This rebuild might have been cheaper, but it came at a price. And now this customer is out major $$$, due to an improper 3rd party rebuild, that ended up destroying the entire supercharger unit.
- heavy cast impeller wheel
- incorrect impeller for volute
- random washer for spacing
- incorrect height which led to grinding on housing.
- likely no testing before being shipped back.
No matter if you are talking about a supercharger, turbocharger, engine, or even just simple wiper blades. Usually its well worth the extra $$$ to go with the OEM manufacture. That way it ensures that you are getting the best product possible.
NOTE: Yes, I am a weirdo and buy my wiper blades from the dealership, cause for some reason they just flat out last longer.
NOTE 2: I need to post more fun videos, I know I have seen your emails and comments, and I promise I am about to drop some fun ones for everyone. :)
I'm blown away someone was crafty enough to cast impeller blades but not realize the clearance issues? Maybe 🤔 the aluminum shavings, plus pump e85 , mixed to the right ratio... Nope
whats worse, is they were CHARGED for this. Crazy
Hey jerk. That was my custom rebuild. I spent hours digging through the bins at Ace finding the perfect washer and i used sand paper glued to a wood dowel on a drill bit to shave down the angel on the silver spiral looking thing. It was making a lot of jingle when i drive through the neighborhood but thats good cuz the neighbours heard me coming.
Thanks for the laugh!!! :)
One can only afford to do it right the first time...
A impeller replacement through procharger is 1300 bucks. If they do the bearings its another 500.1800 for a unit that cost 3k.Might as well upgrade and trash the old one.A Bit high after you pay the 7k for your kit
Self clearancing blade. Love it!
Its the way of the future I tell ya
Yeah you should let us know who to avoid
If you watch my channel, I don't throw anyone under the bus. Just not my thing. If you want things done OEM correctly... it is usually best to go back to the OEM, or at least use OEM parts (if parts are available)
@Erik "ProCharger" Radzins well I just got my Foxbody F1A Renegade kit NEW from Lethal so I shld not have to worry about a rebuild any time soon 😀
Man that guy that rebuild that is a real dirtbag. It’s one thing if he’s taking a turbine and trying to do a small repair to eliminate a crack, it’s entirely another to put a cast part in there, knowing it’s going to spin at tens of thousands of RPMs and cause damage without a doubt.
That 100% will not last three hours of use. I doubt that would last a Dyno pull. That is unreal. I never would’ve guessed someone would be this low.
I know this is old, but what was the cheapest way to Pro charge a Infiniti G 35? I see the rebuild kits all the time I’ve built a car completely back from scrap, and it was a present to myself from my divorce. I’ve spent money on several. I just think a pro charger would be the way to go.
Oh man, I would search for a used kit. They are out there.
Who did the botched one?
The hardware store spacer is funny, I had something like that as a pulley spacer (NOT an impeller spacer) while I waited a machined/precision fit part off of the internet.
Would love to see the flow numbers on that cast wheel? Yeah I think everyone would like to see the numbers on any Procharger original impeller. Hell the P1SC compressor map floating around was tested by a guy that worked at Vortech.
I think Vortech uses a lot of cast impellers don't they?
So would you trust Vortech to map a ProCharger correctly and share on the internet? Thats like GM's marketing team doing the review of the GT500 Shelby.
Vortech makes nice units, ProCharger makes nice units, Whipple makes nice units, Eaton makes nice units.... everyone has some great stuff. Thats what really matters. :)
Unfortunately after Procharger refused to repair my blower because it was too damaged I found a third party who rebuilt it for me but im not sure how long it will last but I couldn't just throw away a $6k blower!
Gotta see it from ProChargers point of view... if the blower is so badly damaged, that they can't warranty how long it would live after a repair...you gotta see why they wouldn't touch it.
Kinda like buying a totally wrecked car. Sure you can fix it, but some places just won't touch it.. due to liability.
Hopefully yours lasts a long long life, and happy boosting man! :)
@@erikradzins owe I totally understood why they wouldn't repair it and it's why they offered me a new unit discounted which I should have mentioned and is why I ended up with a spare damaged blower.
My point was these units are expensive even for a wealthy person imo, and I just couldn't throw away such a expensive piece even as damaged as it was, I guess im one of those guys who still sees worth in things when they break when others dont and would throw it away or give up.
Could you let us know who the third party was, as so we know to never go to them. Thanks, much..
@@vincentdelucia8078 na you can can go kiss prochargers ass and pay for a new blower when yours breaks, I'll keep my third party guy out of this and for the record the blower runs perfectly fine still! And he only charged me $850 lol 😂 Procharger was asking $950 for just a new impeller..
Do you rebuild Prochargers? How can I get a hold of you? Thanks
I do not... ProCharger does. :)
Woopsie are you guys gonna use that washer?
LOLOL, nahhhh
No map left on that.
Hello, could you let us all as consumers the company that did the horrible rebuild ,so as a heads up on where not to go? I believe it would help out many, for, like you, you can go with the unknown and get screwed. It would be much appreciated. I have a company who I'm considering doing my procharger to save a few hundred dollars, however, if it's the same guys, obviously it will be a NO! Really appreciate it. Thanks much. Happy new year
That's not a company, probably an expert from Craigslist
wow... do it right the first time
So.... You should post more videos on your cheap Jeep....
Mine does a grinding noise, is the bearing bad?
Wtf ... 🤔
