Take the four number 17 torx screws loose from the grill. Remove the grill. Take the six 13 mm screws holding the two bonnet hinges to the chassis out. Have two friends position themselves at the bonnet neat the windshield. Pry the hinges toward the front5of the car. There is a slot in each hinge for this purpose. You may have to use a screwdriver to get the edge of the hinge over a lip on each hinge. Once the hinges are fully forward, press the front of the bonnet and push it towards the rear of the car while your buddies gently pull up on windshield end of the bonnet. The latch should release on whichever side is stuck. Pushing back on the hood pushes the latch in towards the windshield which will release female portion attached to the bonnet. Next, remove the covers on the right and left sides of the rear of the compartment. This exposes the latches. Take the 2 number 17 Torx screws from each latch. Pull the latches up out and away from the mounting point. Turn the latching assembly over. Most likely the ball at the end of the cable has popped out. Put the ball back in the fork and with a pair of vice grips crimp the fork together at the top. This will ensure you won't have this problem again!

This is also one of the numerous erroneous videos on how to resolve this situation. There is ONE UA-camr who has a video who correctly shows that these access holes are already pre-drilled at the factory for this very purpose. You have to remove the plastic wheel arch liner first in order to find them. No damaging, shade tree mechanic drilling is necessary.

Errr, we do NOT use "esq." to refer to ourselves. It is an honorific title given by others to US. That being said, there is NO drilling required to access the underside of the hood latches on our XJ8s. Remove the little blanking plug in either fender arch (they are there for that very purpose) and you are clear to go up with a tool and hit them open.

@@TheChoctawdude Actually, any licensed atty would know that. If you wish, use "Dr." as your title, as I do, if you in fact have a Juris Doctor degree. You claim to practice here in TX as well as in FL on your website, but I have checked and you are not a member of either state's bar. ?
