Totally the wrong way to get that top trim panel off - remove the screw first and slide it backwards. No need for that trim tool (you stand a good chance of cracking the trim doing it that way)
You are absolutely correct. I hadn't found enough info in the (admittedly) short time I looked before I made this, but yes, you can just do it exactly that way - unscrew, and slide. I will have to redo this when I get my new actuator in for the driver's side. Thank you for reminding me, I had forgotten about it.
Were you able to order new clips and if so what clips did you use? I have a few broken ones as well i want to replace (found out during speaker installs)
Charles, thanks for video. I need to tighten my side view mirror - do you know if I need to take the door panel off to get at the little triangle cover for the side mirror ? or any tricks to remove that little cover ?
The plastic triangle should pry off without too much effort using a plastic trim tool and wiggling it, then should be a bolt on the inside to tighten the assembly itself. This forum post gives a good picture of that triangle, just one trim clip and some sticky stuff that should hold back in fine when replaced: www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj8-xjr-x308-27/xj8-wing-mirror-unit-removal-215339/
@@CharlesOlcott thanks for the reply - turns out I broke the piece in two, the diagonal edge closest to the front windshield has a long plastic channel like "latch" behind it - I assume now the correct way to remove this piece is to remove the door panel and then gently bottom and back edges but just a little bit - then push the front windshield edge down and towards the back until the metal edge of the door is out of that channel latch thong then the piece could just be removed. I do think the jag plastic of this generation must be suspect for becoming brittle , every 98,99 I have seen has a cracked plastic cupholder, sunvisor latch, or third brake light
Thanks for this video I now know exactly how to remove all four of my door panels for inspection and to swap out the door pockets with ones of a different color for my two tone interior project. Unrelated question; where are you from? Your accent is the same as Charlie Sheen, in that show Two and a Half Men.
I believe you can remove the triangle trim piece for the mirror without having to remove the panel. It's held on with a plastic clip, and some light adhesive. If you use a trim tool, you should be able to free it, and it should pop up and out from the door, giving access to the bolts and wiring plug.
Hello,I have a 2002 XJ8 and the drivers side door does not lock all the time. What would you suggest? The alarm still comes on and all the other doors lock except for the driver side door.
+Melvin Dean Does it lock intermittently, or does it not lock at all all the time? It sounds like it might be your actuator. Check the following video, see if Robert's video helps . ua-cam.com/video/vKJOBmZ_Qwc/v-deo.html
Actually, I did finally part with it a few months back. Decided I would let someone else with more available time keep it going, just wasn't feasible for me any longer without time and space to go through it. Still keeping my eye out for another for the future though, love that car!
it will to a point. after you get the panel off, you'll have access to the inside where the outside handle attaches. easier with the window up, but you will need the panel off to get to that area
I'm also missing the middle "white Block" that the screw feeds into. Deos anyone know where to get this or what its called? Or if there is a fix for this. Thanks
I still have yet to find it listed anywhere, and the exploded door card diagram doesn't show anything other than the standard tree inserts for around it. I'm contemplating finding just some white ABS blocks, and taking a dremel to it to make the slot for it to fit in the door, and tap threads in it for the screw.
Update: I was pointed to part number KZR100014 , which is described as "insert" that is supposed to be for that. I just rec'd one today and am waiting for new 'fir tree' clips to replace all those missing ones (yes, after all this time, I'm finally getting around to fixing this thing!). Will let you know if for a fact it's the correct one, but judging by the opening while re-watching, it does look like it's the correct one. I spent $11 dollars for the one I had, only to have someone link me THIS link: www.jaguarpartsunlimited.com/oem-parts/jaguar-insert-kzr100014 Many places don't have them in stock, but worth a look!
Charles: Thank you very much. Your video was very helpful. I have ordered the Kinglake panel removal tools from Amazon.
Thanks for the upload!

Very good

Gurpreet Hira I never did order new clips, but if you need, you can find them :

Hi great video, very helpful, my XJ350 is probably very similar, how do you remove the inner cover,I need to replace my window motor on driver door ?
On this model it just peels off. They used a sticky mastic, bit like blutac

Upstate NY, for pretty much my entire life. Glad the video helped you!
broken clips are very cheap and easy to replace, local auto accessory store or ebay.
Would you need to take the panel off to replace the side view mirrow?

Charles Olcott I'm having the same problem with my 03 xj8 on the passenger side
Do you still have this car? This was 5 years ago so I am sure you do not. I think I remember you telling me you still have it now thinking about it.
