That's crazy to hear u grew up on plug ins and are new to pedals. Makin me feel old bro 😄 killer killer channel!
Shout out POD Farm
Same, 30s the new 50 😂😵💫😞
@@dokidokideathproof I can confirm that. I have never used digital stuff, it's all analog for me!
Im a huge Deftones fan and I never knew that Needles and pins wasn't a guitar, thats insane, I always thought the tone was super unique on that track
Yeah it's a weird one! My friend Bill Crook from Spiritbox taught me about it and we covered it a few years back
That doom helmet in the background is so sick
Don't forget the all mighty compressor pedal!
I'd say the "scooped mids" tone was accidentally(?) a very accurate reproduction of the "chainsaw" hm-2 tone.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought it sounded that way. Very scooped in the low-mids, then ramps up to the peak in the high-mids. I think that was purely accident, but I always wondered if you could get that tone with a Fuzz and an EQ. Sounds like you can!
my exact thought dude
Fuck yes! I think of my EQ as my “distortion perfecter”-my usual distortion pedal gets pretty close to the sound I want, but with an EQ following it I can refine it, removing what I don’t like (fizzy high end) and emphasizing what I do (mids). I use the MXR Ten Band EQ; it works great.
Straight facts! My eq is the one pedal i could never live without.
Dude the Boss Equalizer pedal has been on my board for like nearly 2 years. Had it before most of my other stuff and it’s just a fucken beast 🙌 it works as a replacement for so many different types of pedal types.
So glad to see it get some love 👌👌
Clear, concise and to the point. Awesome video, I'd love to see more videos on pedals and tones!
Dude, this is RAD. I've played since I was a kid in the mid nineties and grew up with analogue shit. THANK YOU!! \m/ \m/
Thank you so much for making this video!!! People need to know that this pedal makes your tone sounds a shit ton better
If you haven't you should definitely check out Lambchopper's videos where he uses a EQ to get Metallica tones out of his Marshall DSL, it's actually insane how close he gets to the Justice tone. I use the same trick on my Randall to get that Mesa-y low end, works wonders
the one thing that i’ve always wanted to get during the start of my guitar journey was pedals, im glad to hear that you can get all these effects digitally, but i would still rather have an actual thing right in front of me while playing so i can tweak it easier, great vid!
man you are a big inspiration for me as a musician, i learn a LOT with all of your videos (follow since 2013)
Yo thank you so much!
The Metal Zone has a great double potted analog EQ neatly concealing itself under the guise of "distortion pedal". Imo it's best feature.
It IS just that but so much more.
I haven't used that pedal in years (not counting digital versions) I used it back in the early 2000s for EVERYTHING before plug-in's were a thing.
The EQ I used to use to dial in so many tones from moderate OD to saturated distortion (scooped mids this pedal shines)
Over the years I've learned to appreciate the mid range frequencies like the mid boost so many amps have (like the ENGL Fireball).
Someone said they couldn't believe EQ tweaking is how Steph Carp concocted the needles and pins tone. Good old Steph - an absolute master of the EQ.
How about "Dai the Flu" or that incredible split coil tone in Fireal and Riviere.
Great video per usual there New Groove!!
I've been running that same pedal through the effects loop of my 5150 forever. One click on the channel switcher and you have a dedicated tone for solos, or even better, the opposite; killer, thick beefy tone for when your band mate is doing the leads. Great vid man!
My experience with the GE-7 tweaking settings:
Better, better, better, okay I think I found the sound.
Leave to get a drink and come back to play again.
Oh, it sounded like shit the whole time.
hahaha, I think that's accurate for how I feel when I mix a new song
Been using the djent trick in my mixes for a few years now myself! It makes a world of difference for note articulation and makes ultra low tunings very usable and makes the guitar feel less choked when playing.
Awesome video!
Bad ass brother! Love your content!
Thanks Matt!
I love that doom helmet on ur desk sick brother!!🤘👍;)
My favorite eq pedal is the color box by jhs. Then the EQD Westwood.
I was using the Boss EQ as a boost 20 years ago to boost my 5150 sounded so good and it’s an underrated pedal it really makes it cut
See I’m not the only one who says you need an EQ pedal.
7:19 Was it just me or this actually was from a song by Deftones? It's so familiar.
I have a Behringer eq700 and I use it for the lofi sound. It’s great. It’s a 30 dollar eq pedal
5:57 is that some tasty Tesseract I hear? ;)
Djent tone! Yay!
Can you make a similar video for bass with GEB-7?
a thing i like to do is leave the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th bands, slightly cut the 2nd and 4th bands and slightly boost the 6th band. it sounds killer
I don’t understand people who still don’t use eqs before a plugin or an amp. Just do it guys
Quick question. Can I do this with a ENO EX EQ7? just curious
Nice shirt! Where can I buy it?
Needles and pins better sounds on 8string, open 8 string, 11 th fret on 7 th string and 13 th fret on 6 th string. Then it sounds like in original. On this song they have album version and live chinos bass version. Don't know what tuning he has, but it has to be open string in F#.
Hey, what happened to today's live reactions? I can't find them
It got blocked 😓
@@BaenaCarcosa brooo that sucks, I was going to share the reaction with my mother lol ... #sad
No Thall?!
Where do you put your eq pedal in the signal chain?
Either the last thing in my chain before the amp, or in the fx loop depending what tone I'm doing as seen in this vid

Title of song at 4:10 when testing Dimebag's tone?
It's from one of my bands One More Slice - Person You Need
Speaking of one more slice or even just a collab with Brian storm. Any chance we can get many more slices? You guys did a lot together a while back.
@@AaronMorgan666 We have a few songs recorded we just have not released them yet, don't really know if we will or what the plan is. Still love Brian and talk with him all the time he is just primarily focused on Rock Feed now is all
RIP AND TEAR ??????????????????????
Do people only use EQ pedals in metal?
Probably not, but that's what I play so naturally that is where I drew my examples from
@@BaenaCarcosa Sorry, I didn't mean for that to come off sounding so pissy!
Ooh I'm early
THALL EQ?
Here before the pantera fanbois downvoted
No offense but tbh the distortion sounds sounded all ... bad ._.
sounded like too much saturation
First :)
I saw your guitar playthroughs a few weeks back you're killing it man
@@BaenaCarcosa yo thanks a lot man haha I have been watching you for years ! Love your content
