You missed the most important moment ever: Kmac's "how it feels to make a mistake while using a delay pedal"
IT is weird indeed. Everywhere I comment, people tell me how much they love me and my content. Sometimes IT is annoying. But right now, IT would be okay. So say something nice about my content, dear von
YES!
THIS!
@@AxxLAfriku Yes AxxL so true
@@AxxLAfriku no
Sammy G playing Rob Scallon. What a fine day it is.
Rain is a f*cking masterpiece.
Sitting here thinking “The Edge is surely gonna be in this” ashamed to say I never once thought of “Rain” Probably the most deserving entry on the list, one of the greatest pieces of original content on UA-cam
Ya rain is great
A delay is just a way to make your mistakes repeat.
Kmac2021 has entered the chat
Nice profile pic
@@lilcheesestick9812 thanks
so don't make a mistake.
I meant to do that...that..that.
Rain has to be one of my favorite guitar videos on UA-cam and especially when he recreated it without the pedals, it was really awesome
People can say what they want about The Edge, he makes delay sound so good! The beginning of Where the Streets Have no Name on the 360 Tour is one of my all time favorite, goose bump inducing live concert moments.
Hell yeah man, I was 11 when I saw U2 on the 360 tour (2008), wanted to play guitar ever since!
If you give yourself the nickname The Edge, and you are the most vanilla pop guitar player of all time, then you deserve all the shit you get haha
@@danielclark612 lmao I mean you're not wrong
@@danielclark612 He didn’t given himself the nickname, it was given to him, apparently due to the angular shape of his head.
fittingly, the delay pedal makes the guitar repeat, and the edge makes the guitar repetitive
My favorite use of delay is probably the sound at the start of Run Like Hell by the Pink Floyd
Just wanted to say I love your videos man, they make me happy
There is a reason why delay sounds so good
It's cuz
#RepetitionLegitimizes
Repetition legitimizes
Lack of repetition surprises

This is a great video. It'd be cool to see a whole series about it. Distortion, Fuzz, Flanger, Chorus... It'd be cool to see the series! Thank you for this video!
Also different guitar techniques! Harmonics, tapping, pinch harmonics, power chords, chugs, additional strings, thumping, slapping... seems like a series with a lot of options.
That dub composition was fire
If Kmac isn't in here I'm gonna be disappointed
Lol yeah
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Rain is an absolute pleasure to listen to!!!
One of my favourite moments of delay is with the intro to Welcome to the Jungle by GnR as it introduced me to the effect as such and I was absolutely blown away!!!
It's no small feat to write music that sounds like someone else, but isn't. Awesome video!
Big Sur Moon by Buckethead immediately came to mind
This video is so clutch. Literally just got a new delay pedal in the mail 10 minutes before this came out
Sammy G! I knew you were a great guitarist, but hearing you play in the styles of other greats makes me realize just how beautiful your phrasing and feel is! I need a full version of every song yesterday!
The Pink Floyd one gave me chills. Really well done
I was afraid slapback wouldn't make it into the tribute but bam it's the first one. Often overlooked but a classic.
Happy to see Sammy G whipping out guitar face like it's boutta be paired with a case of Moosehead
I haven't had Moosehead in years. Damn!
The intro from The Adventure by Angels and airwaves still gives me goose bumps.
This was one of your best vids, thank you for this very impressive short dive into delay
This is now one of my favorite videos you've made. This is the most into playing I've seen you. Like you just really got into it! And I'm so happy you got Rob scallon in it
Awesome video... really appreciated the samples of each. You put in a lot into this.
Scott’s Bass Lessons: 5 times Delay Pedal went BEAST MODE!
I’ll see myself out…. 🤣🤣
Probably lol. Gotta love him tho
6th greatest delay effect moment: Kmac2021 making a mistake and that mistake pursues him till the end oh his life.
Your tributes are so beautiful!
Some of my favorite delay comes from Bauhaus and Lowlife but the stuff listed here is great too.
Just beautiful !!! Tank you very much ! :D
How informative! You are such an amazing talent!
Maggot Brain by Funkadelic is definitely one of the best reverb/delay guitar solos of all time
Another early name in the delay effect that's done in the recording studio was a Chicago based recording engineer by the name of Bill Putnam (who was Duke Ellington's favorite recording engineer) but he did two important Recordings to involving harmonicas and echo effects.
The first one in1947 was the Harmonicats according of "Peg O' My Heart."
The second in 1952 roughly was Little Walter's recording of "Juke."
i love this kind of videos, thanks for the recomendation!
this is AMAZING, please make this a series!!! would love to see a wah or fuzz version
Some fine work there, young man - and a great video overall.
all the tributes are so beautiful
The Dub tune is killer, dude.
Great video. Beautiful sounds.
My wife wanted me to make sure I let you know this is her favorite video you've done.
This really needed a 6th moment. It completely missed the echo effects of surf rock.
I guess technically, the surf sound is a mix of reverb, wah, and echoes. So it really does no fit precisely in a single pedal video.
@@brianspenst1374 I would include it on his mention of Elvis, though you're right it could have been touched on more to really cement in how important echo was to music at that time
What are some really sick surf rock delay moments?
Beautiful. Thanks Sammy G!
So happy to see this, I LOVE delays, all kinds, any kind..
Loved the tribute to the edge 🔥
Awesome video Sam
Nice to see some love for Mr. Guitar.
Here we go baby!! Best effect!!
Arigato gozaimasu! Peerless, impeccable playing paired with a coherent history of the delay pedal. I can't ask for more.
Thanks and well done !
Hey Sammy G, I love your stompbox series
The Dubb Reggae section was AMAZING, Sammy G! Made my day! I'm basically the ONLY reggae musician in Nashville, so, Thank you, hoss!
Love the Tourettes Guy mention. Awesome work Sam, keep it up!
Van Halen Cathedral (1982) is the example of the dotted eight thing for me.
Yes bro! Big ups for showing love to rubba dub style🤘🏽❤
Thanks man for reminding why I got into guitar and music.
Vini Reilly / Durutti Column’s work is perhaps my favorite use of delay. For all the fans of that track Rain (and no knock on it), Vini was making music like that in the late 70s. Check out the track “Sketch for Summer” off of Return of The Durutti Column as a starting point, if unfamiliar. Reilly is one of the 20th Century’s greatest (mostly) unsung guitar heroes.
9:16 I bet rob was just fucking drooling listening to this-
The King Tubby tribute was dope as hell 🖤
omg yes, i called the rob scallon quote from miles away
Oh Bob Sagat! That Tony the Tiger T-Shirt reference got me. Great video, I love using delay when I play.
Seeing you play “in the style of” was great.
Hey everyone. Buy this man’s courses. You will benefit from them.
This was wonderful.
For me, my first great delay moment was Hank Marvin of the Shadows on Wonderful Land (1961)
Great vid, Sam. Makes me wanna get another delay pedal.
Outstanding video. 👋
Great video and the inclusion of Rob Scallons Rain was enough to make me subscribe
all the tributes were amazing 🤠
Every time I turn around you have outdone yourself, Mr. G.
Every video a quality video, clicked as quickly as I could :)
My favorite delay user is Wes Borland, definitely add something to his riffs. Oh and Kmac!
These tribute songs are fantastic
this video is really well made its crazy how far hes come
Really, really enjoyable!
I was thinking of Rob‘s Rain too!
Yeah man that was really good Sammy G!
Nice video, man! Personally, when I think of delay, I immediately think of Buckethead. Something like Big Sur Moon, one of those songs that's build entirely around the delay effect. Absolutely spectacular stuff!
Glad you included Rob Scallon, "Rain" is an amazing song
That first tribute was beautiful Sammy g
Ain't talking bout love intro always gives me chills, not really sure why
rain is such an amazing song and rob's stuff is what inspired me to pick up a guitar in the first place
fun, educational, entertaining and wonderfully enjoyable
Great video. Delay is a mistery to me. Can't really use it properly, even though I love the way it sounds coming from others. So nice to see you putting it all on your playing.
I wish he had more views as he does with his #shorts. He deserves more🙏🥰
Maybe toss in some background music in your videos 🤔
But man you really do great 🙏
Sorry for the Delay, but I agree with you on Robs song rain!
Really great video!
Killer video!
Great video
your playing on the king tubby one made me cry from joy
this list was exactly what i was expecting, especially those last three. might i add, excellent david gilmour impression!
5:26 That was incredible.
Cool video!
With my overdriven solo tones delay really plays a key role. Back when I was new I sucked with delayed, everything I dialed sounded messy, I almost never used it, instead I used reverb for that wide spacious feeling. When someone recommended delay instead of reverb as feedback I spent some time and found the sweet spot. Not only adds this atmospheric huge vibe but since what you play is repeated it kinda acts like double tracked recording and it thickens the sound.
Another delay moment that I feel deserves a mention is the use of Meazzi Echomatic multi-head drum echo by Hank Marvin from The Shadows. It and the Binson Echorec sounded different from all other delay units.
Bill Bailey has an excellent delay-based bit about The Edge! lol
Man as someone who hasn't played the guitar, 7:30 is a magical moment. To have so much music, and sound, and brilliance come from one instrument. It's not the rapid movements of the piano nor the meticulous bow strokes of the violin; rather its an embodiment of of the instrument itself. Making it sing by knowing exactly what it can do.
Rob Scallon - Rain tribute was such a pleasant surprise
Whitewash by Buckethead is definitely on my delay list
I have a 25 year old DFX9 that just keeps getting more and more valuable as time goes by. I've loved delay since Reptile by the Church.
I can't believe you actually mentioned King Tubby !
Sammy G is my favorite Canadian guitarist that isn't in Rush.
RUSH!
Dude, I feel it, you can't play reggae without grooving like that
Delay is a pretty big part of the revival of garage/psych/surf rock in the 2010s as well, all the great bands mainly from LA and Australia. That burst of delay sound that bands like King Gizzard and Oh Sees use a lot is probably my personal "great delay moment".
The King Gizz delay is soooo cool; it's like their signature thing lol.
