Maybe a collar for Carl that you can give him a mini shock when he chases chickens will break him. Not anything that would hurt him but something that would catch his attention when you yell at him to stop chasing chickens

He can't be REtrained when they haven't trained the puppy to begin with. Everyone in the family has to use the same words for training Carl, he'll never learn if one person says 'get down', another says 'don't do that', and another says 'quit it Carl', etc. This holds true for anything you are teaching him.
Check out the collar that Kyle & Shannon are using on Doss Acres. Also he needs to learn NO! Stern, not screaming loud but firm and everyone needs to use the same tone of voice. At one point we had 10 dogs on the farm. That was the first command my dad thought them as they grew.

Carl will teach the others bad habits. It’s possible to get him to stop but you have to be consistent, every time . We’ve had to let one go, for its sake & our own.
I would like something like that with a much louder volume as I am hearing impaired and can not hear those detectors. I would suggest putting him on a least while outside and train him to leave the chickens alone, when the chickens are close by and he gets excited pull on the least to distract him each time until he finds the chickens uninteresting. Then still keep it up for at least another two weeks if that doesn't work put him on a least again and leave it on for a longer period of time with the pulling for distraction.
Dutch may have to get a shock collar for Carl for his bad behavior (jumping & chasing chickens, at least). They do no harm if worked properly and they train faster.

Carl does have a lot of energy he needs to burn off. You may want to redirect that energy with some training geared more to what his breed is. Getting the girls involved also will help strengthen his bond and curb his mischievous tendencies. Definitely zero in on his recall command immediately. Get that down pat and usually the rest should follow. Years ago we had a Corgi for my son to start 4-H with. He had gotten hurt during training and after that wouldn't herd anything that much bigger than he was. Except for the occasional group of service members out for a group run for PRT. He was too smart, figured out how to get out of base housing. We had sought out help with retraining him to not "herd" the humans. He actually got really good at keeping the wild geese away from base housing when the small children were playing outside. Wild geese on their migration path are not something to mess with.
CONSISTENCY on your commands. Have the family know which commands are used on which behavior example. Sit,down no, stay, leave it...leave it is a good one for when he is on something thats a no no. God bless and happy training.. Dogs want to please you. You just need to let them know when and what that looks like.
That's probably why they aren''t laying eggs. I know they lay less eggs in cold weather so between winter and the dog tormenting. them they are too stressed. And worse yet, if he catches and kills one, he'll keep doing it no matter what. My city dogs catch birds and eat them so I know what I'm saying.
Maybe have Carl on some kind of leash or run until he is trained. When he is playing he’s not listening to you. He’s a puppy. He doesn’t understand the commands yet. When he jumps turn your back on him. He doesn’t understand STOP or the other things you say. He jumped and then you petted him. You just rewarded him for jumping. Petco and Petsmart have basic training classes. They aren’t that expensive.
I love Carl, I would take him on in an instant. I have a Pom that acts crazy, she is so mean to my big guy a Lab/Shepard mix. She adores my Shih-Tzu, and my 5 month old kitties. Before I got her she had puppies 2 different times when she was only 1 year and a little over 1 year old for her second set. She loves the kitties, as if she gave birth to them--LITERALLY washing them up. Long way around to say we never know what they have or haven't gone through first. So training will happen, no matter how you choose. I have a direct line fire alarm, but have ordered 4 new fire/carbon monoxide alarms.
Immediately when chases chicken grab him up say no no the put him in kennel. When he gets out after 30 minutes you let him run some then if he chases the chicken grab him say no no put him in kennel for longer time. It might take awhile to help him see.
K& S get out. Uses a shock collar, that they only uses 1-2 times . Then only a beep warning. The beep warning was enough to stop the in appropriate behavior. They haven't needed to shock again. But every time they take him out the collar is on if needed, for the sound not the shock.
Maybe you should try one of those special callers for him. Eventually this puppiness will get out of him but he doesn't need corrected. Dude, when I was a little kid we had a rat terrier. I think that's the one think that's the 1. Anyway, the chicken got killed in my dad tightened around her neck and she carried that for several days around her neck and she never killed another chicken after that she hunted a lot of other stuff, but not anymore chickens.

Good luck y'all have a Blessed weekend stay safe stay healthy stay positive always make it fun Love from Tucson Arizona 💗🦎🌵🌻🦉👩🏼🌾🌵🦎
Do you need carbon monoxide alarms if you don't have gas.
Shocking collar! ❤ god bless!
CONSISTENCY on your commands. Have the family know which commands are used on which behavior example. Sit,down no, stay, leave it...leave it is a good one for when he is on something thats a no no. God bless and happy training.. Dogs want to please you. You just need to let them know when and what that looks like.
❤❤❤❤❤
😮yo! That's alot! 😢
Howdy
Yes if he keeps up on them hens they will stop laying completely.
You should try adding V8 juice to your chili it makes it taste really good.
Shock collar might help
That dog is terrorizing the poor chickens.
That's probably why they aren''t laying eggs. I know they lay less eggs in cold weather so between winter and the dog tormenting. them they are too stressed. And worse yet, if he catches and kills one, he'll keep doing it no matter what. My city dogs catch birds and eat them so I know what I'm saying.
lithium ? 🔥
When a dog jumps on you lean into it. It's dog speak for my space back off.
Carl is a mess😂
❤
Carl thinks its okay. Because you are petting him after you scold him.
Electric shock collar with remote
How about a shock collar, so when you give a command and he doesn't respond, he gets a rebuke/shock.
Put him on a chain leash then find a big ball like a softball size it will keep him from chasing it works on our 60 pound dog
💕🙏
Immediately when chases chicken grab him up say no no the put him in kennel. When he gets out after 30 minutes you let him run some then if he chases the chicken grab him say no no put him in kennel for longer time. It might take awhile to help him see.
chasing chickens will often make them quit laying.
K& S get out. Uses a shock collar, that they only uses 1-2 times . Then only a beep warning. The beep warning was enough to stop the in appropriate behavior. They haven't needed to shock again.
But every time they take him out the collar is on if needed, for the sound not the shock.
You all have such a kind heart.
You just cut him at the knees he's not going to win another chili contest cuz you just gave away his secret😂
🤣😂
Get him a shock collar.
Is dog training collar
Maybe you should try one of those special callers for him.
Eventually this puppiness will get out of him but he doesn't need corrected.
Dude, when I was a little kid we had a rat terrier. I think that's the one think that's the 1. Anyway, the chicken got killed in my dad tightened around her neck and she carried that for several days around her neck and she never killed another chicken after that she hunted a lot of other stuff, but not anymore chickens.
Get a shock collar and when Carl chases the chickens give him a buzz. He will soon stop chasing the chickens. Its not cruel or mean . Its a tool
Put a shock collar on Carl, when he chases the chickens give him a little jolt, he’ll learn pretty quick not to chase any more😁
