I've been memorizing the notes on the fretboard for exaclty 5min a day, everyday without any day off and learned all of them after some weeks. People underestimate the power of consistency.

I’ve been practicing finding all twelve notes15-20 minutes M-F. I started at 60 bpm. In about six months I’m at 107 bpm. I have to find each note five times at that speed. If I fail, I stay at this speed until I can go three days without a mistake. Then I speed up. My goal is 120 bpm. Where this helps me with actual music is finding my triads. So I thank you for your videos. They’ve helped me think about the process of learning.

So, how do you start? With A, A#, B, C...? Or random? I really like this idea, thanks in advance.

When I first started, I used the circle of fifths but no accidentals. So I started with FCGDAEB. Later, i brought in Bb & F#. Within the last two months, I’ve completed the circle by adding C#, Ab, Eb. Lastly, I’d recommend thinking of the accidental that you see most in your playing. For example, when I find Bb I never consider this A#. Bb shows up way more in the music I’m learning. Just a thought to make your practice more effective.

The point is clearly made but I suggest most guitarists confuse speed improvement with quality improvement. Could you speak about playing slower but with more accuracy during a practice?

Exercising the brain has so many similarities to physical exercise. New stimulus/information, increase in intensity, and quality form. Direct focus.

Tommaso, I agree that your method for learning the notes on the guitar fretboard actually works. 💡 Folks, give it a chance... The reps go quickly and make a good warm-up exercise. Small gains do accumulate.

So my beautiful wife asks me, "is this the class on listening?" and I said No. This is the class on reminding yourself that you do know that there are 12 notes in Western Music - there are 12 frets on the board (on each string = important).
So lets say B; there are only 4 B's on the fingerboard but there is actually only 1 B on each string. My understanding of your Lesson Thomas is that by drilling the B today, the C should be easier tomorrow even though today I will only practice B.
Wow, your takes on music and music theory are truly the most enlightening points being made in this space on youtube. I follow Vocal coaches, studio/producers, Bass instructors, virtuoso musicians, and the Common Folk cover artist but your points connect synapses my brain is making from this education I am doing by myself in youtube land. All musicians from beginners to experts could learn from your way of thinking; Thank you so much.

Today I practiced a walking bass line of I IV vi V in CM and looped pretty darn close to 80 bpms. Tomorrow I will do this again but will walk between frets 5 - 9. Thanks Thomasso And the E took about 15 seconds. My math says about 1.3889% do you mind checking my math?

It took me about three months to learn the notes on the fretboard following your video. What mattered for me was having a realistic goal for the day. Day one: I'm going to learn a note really slowly. Day two: I'm going to learn another note really slowly. Day 15: I'm going to practice all the notes really slowly. Day 30: I'm going to speed up 5 BPM, and so on. One day, I just did all the exercises and found out I had learned the notes on the fretboard

Hey! thanks for the video. I have a question regarding the fretboard memorization exercise. What is exactly the process through which I am supposed to find the notes? Is it through the diagram? I don't use the diagram. What I do is, knowing the note of the open string, play the interval corresponding to the note I want to play (e.g. I have to play an E on the third string, so I play the 9th fret because I know that's a major 6th from G, the open string note), but I don't know if that's the thing I'm supposed to get fast at. What's the intention of the exercise? Thanks

Strangely enough, it does not matter what process you use to find the notes: any process will work. I was thinking like you when I started.

IDK, this math looks suspect to me. OH NO! The reverse!😱😵 I'll just keep practicing. That's easier than the reverse.

You only have to be 10% better than 90% of everyone else to be in the 1%.

And you don't have to be in the top 1% to improve your skills by 1%.

3:47 If you put it like that, it's actually 37 ~ 38 times as good.

To Southern Cross Vids. The brain works in small increments. I leaned the 1st and 3rd movement of the Prokofiev Piano Concerto #3 and Performed it while in college. Taking the time that i could get 5 min there 10 min there 15 min again 1/2 hour hear and there. But you would be surprised what the mind is studying while you are away from the guitar or piano or instrument of choice. You are memorizing... Your comment is full of SH*T. By the way, there came a point while learning that I started to see that all the composers that created their Concerto are to be played for fun. So take MTFG and learn from his wisdom. It will all click sooner than you think

while I'm grateful for the motivation about consistency, I'll disagree with the linear way of improvement. Some difficult (let's say) tasks need a lot of time to mature and some of the practice leads to sustaining that level instead of improving it
