I love the frame machine videos
This video was very detailed
There are not enough frame pulling videos on UA-cam for students to learn from. Great content!!!!
Thanks for the support DC - glad you like them :)
How strong is that machine? I mean how many ound does of pressure does it pull? Does that make sense. I have a similar issue with my car. I know machines are expensive but I am just curious. Fascinating @LakesideAutobody
Thank you brother for explaining everything while showing us on how you tight the chains. I work on a different frame machine but this is what I'm trying to buy soon for small jobs at home.
It's portable, cheap, and has done everything I've done will regular fame machines, Kansas Jack, EZ Liner, etc.
@LakesideAutobody I really appreciate it. You're taking the time to respond. There is one with 4 clamps instead of 2. And it's like V shape, that's what I'm trying to buy. But your is awesome 👌
Great work Jerry! I have seen many straightening jobs in real life over the 24 years I did subcontracting work with about 20 body shops. Always nice seeing it done right. I am not sure I would have the patients to do that as a living! Obviously a skill to it.
Thanks Uncle Mark - always a pleasure hearing from you - have a good weekend :)
You just can't get it to specs, straight with that rustic dozer , you need a Car-oliner bench and computer 🖥️ ,
Done this trade over 45 years . 😂😂😂
Good job Jerry...good to know somebody can fix cars like this. Here in N.C. they would have totaled it and been done with it.
Thanks for the support Gary - fixing damage like this is a hot topic and I'm sure there is money to be made by scrapping a car in this condition but they can be repaired and driven for years to come. My stance on it is, sheet metal doesn't protect no matter how the companies design it. These front ends fold like tin foil in a serious accident. The best thing to do is slow down and drive as safe as possible. Have a great weekend my friend :)
Nice work Jerry. I enjoy the Friday night delivery times!
Glad you like the Friday night thing - I appreciate the support my friend :)
Thanks for the video, it inspired me to buy a dozer rack for the side sway I have. You make it look easier than it is. I spent about 20 hours but finally got it straight. Most issues around pinch weld clamps slipping
Gotta crank those suckers down 🥴. Hope the dozer rack works out for you my friend - glad to hear you purchased one - it's a great tool to have. Would like something more versatile but I don't have a lot of room or land to make room :)
Amazing to watch this process! I see the importance of solid rockers.
Yes - I'm pretty amazed at the strength of the pinch welds - I've never seen them fail or bend. I'd hate to try it with rusted Michigan rockers though :)

Hi, thanks for a wonderful video working with a dozer. I tried it without a pulley block and the clamp which was clamped to the sill came off. Any advice on this please. Thank you
The clamp on the rocker panel pinch weld should never slip off. If it does, it's because the nuts were not tightened down enough or the pinch weld clamp is not a quality clamp. That being said, you can run the chain around the dozer post (around the back) and pull it that way but it does help to have the pulley. Let me know if you have more ?s - Jerry
Great vid. You left out one insignificant item from your shopping list, the small floor mount you use for tension on the left side? I did a brief search for something similar but have come up empty so far when looking for something rated at minimum 4000lb
Sorry - here's the item (color changed) - www.ebay.com/itm/152890495158?hash=item2398fbd0b6:g:RVEAAOSwzatizPt2&amdata= Should have pull pots in the floor but it worked for that job - don't think there was a ton or force on it so it held just fine :)
Awesome job Jerry. I was wondering if you could maybe do a series of vids on diffrent primers, diffrent paints, and diffrent clears. There is so many of them to keep track of. I think it would be a real great learning experience. And then maybe get into the diffrent reducers and catalysts
Absolutely - thanks for that suggestion. I'll try to get to that soon - been real busy lately and the summer heat doesn't allow for long work days. Have a great week my friend :)
@@LakesideAutobody Thank you Jerry !
..What happened to the homemade door stretching jig video you made I now can't find it did you remove it ?... Another great video really interesting
Is it this one? It's old and done on a VHS but has some good stuff in it :) ua-cam.com/video/0vDCpeZjp8g/v-deo.html
4:23 Jerry. why is the blue hook hold by a chain and a winch at the same time. are they two connected together at the floor anchor? whats the purpose? seems like the winch is doing all the holding and the chain always got slack. Peace
I actually need a chain binder to keep pressure on the chain to hold the hook in place. The winch was there just to put tension on the hook to hold it there - not a perfect set up. With a traditional frame machine - pull pots or drive on frame rack the pulling from the other side would keep that chain tight. Hope that makes a bit of sense - have a great weekend Petar :)
One arm bandit. What I kind of learned on. Are you going to replace those rails? At least on the left? Seems you didn't give too much heat. I like the beating of the rebar and the aluminum flying. Old school!
You're right about the heat - didn't get it too hot or as hot as a real torch. If a frame has a kink or is bent it should be replaced but I'm keeping it so it's staying just the way it is :) It's got just over 100k, all wheel drive, good gas mileage, clean in and out - it'll be a nice driver. Have a good weekend Bill 😊

Hi, will hitting with hammer harm the ECU of the car ? Because it happened on Kia grand carnival 3.8lit so I had to change ECU kit which includes key, key reader, immobilizer and ECU. Here in Australia it is called Grand carnival but there it is sedona . So my question: can that happen? Or there was another reason? Cheers
I always undo the negative cable on the battery first - which I should have talked about. That being said, anything can happen I guess but I've never had things break from using a big hammer other than maybe a radiator start leaking, cracking plastic trim parts, etc. Haven't damaged any sensors or computer parts though. I suppose if the computer was very close to where you are using the hammer, you may want to remove it :)
got any tips for straightening a 85 Camaro? its been hit right near the hinges by a Gard rail. looks like it shifted the a pillar and the wheel base is about 9/16 shorter on the damaged side
Might be something in here that can give you an idea or two - ua-cam.com/video/MT2qarFo_nM/v-deo.html You can bolt something to the hinge plate and pull from that too. Maybe this would have something too - ua-cam.com/video/ENgdswDe1Fg/v-deo.html

What’s your strategy for pulling on unibody frames as a posed to body over frame
Aside from the different ways to anchor the vehicle - the principles are similar. I like pulling unibody frames actually - clamp them down with the pinch welds and start pulling. If a pull fails or something is not working then you just have to try something else. Even though sometimes you think you're not going to be able to fix it - with enough thinking and work, it always works out. You'll break some stuff along the way but that's par for the course as they say 😊
I wonder if using like a big Bosch electric jackhammer with a custom hammer bit would be effective in place of a sledgehammer? Shit, goanna give it a try!!!
👍💯
This is a case where a bigger hammer really helps!
Yep - that was a 10 pounder - need a bigger hammer for sure :)
Are those "frame" rails high strength steel? For as much as you were hitting them with that sledge, I'd have expected them to deform.
They probably are but they bend really easy if they get hit by another 3000+ lb car or truck :)
I take it that you are heating the frame where it buckled? Do or did you have to heat up the drivers side at all?? Or you don't have to?
I "warmed up" the buckles or kinks - you're right. Probably could have pulled it w/o heat but I'm not real worried about using heat as I don't have a really hot torch. There were on kinks in the drivers side so that was OK. Glad you enjoyed the content GM - have a good week :)
My car that I'm getting ready to paint, has tight gaps at the bottom between the door and fender, and wide gaps at the top. I've seen a few Neons with the same issue, and suspect it's because they were jacked up in the wrong spot. (The pinch weld is also folded over in a few spots). I saw this video and was wondering if a setup like yours could fix something like that. More than likely, I'm just going to cut the bottom of the fender and open the gap up, and add some welding rod to the edge to close it up at the top....But I'd be curious how something like that would be fixed. It seems if you pulled back and up (from the front of the car) you'd have to pull the support box down at the same time.
You can add shims to the front of the fender to close that gap. You have to raise the hood bumpers and latch to match the hood to the fenders. That's one way. Another way is to close the gap on top and just force that bottom gap open while tightening the bolts at the bottom - even bending the fender or forcing that gap open on the bottom works. Let me know what solves the problem for you :)
@@LakesideAutobody I thought about that. But it's probably 1/8" or less (the door doesn't rub...but it's CLOSE) at the bottom and about 3/8 at the top. I feel like if I shim the front of the fender enough to get the bottom gap right, the fender won't line up with the headlights/front bumper quite right. A little at the back would equate to a LOT at the front. And I worried that if I tried to just force it at the bottom, it would twist the bottom of the fender. I think I'm going to drill some holes in a few spots and use clecos to locate it...then I have a reference to try different things, and I can go back to cutting a slit vertically at the bottom and adding material if neither of those options work.
@@jayinmi3706 Let me know what you end up doing and how it works out - interesting 🔥🛠
@@LakesideAutobody I took the fenders off and I tried just pushing tthe bottom forward and it seemed to work fine. Glad I tried it, would have been a lot of work other wise. There was a shim on the driver's side that might not need to be there. I'll let you know.

Takes patience to pull i have seen so call techs just pull till the ram goes nomore i was tough to pull and pressure relief
hi, where are u locate.,. I need a training., jjij
Michigan :)
If your hook ups are strong enough, ya, don't heat it. High carbon steel doesn't like it.Loosen up the cradle bolts before pulling. There is some slack from the factory in the cradle. Remove the hood latch so you can see better how the hood lines up without running back to release the hood that can have a bent catch anyways.
Good tips Johnny :)
Heating knks in frame rails is not permitted nowadays as it is not longer "safe" to do so. My 30 y/o MR2 is ALL mild steel, so you can heat it and beat it, no problem, but OEMs, pressured to meet higher and higher fuel economy standards utilize stronger and lighter High Strength Steel (HSS) and Ultra HSS (UHSS) in order to lose weight and still maintain the strength of the chassis. These alloys of steel are cured and formed using heat, vacuum & pressure under very controlled conditions to reach their maximum strength. Bodyshops have software to look up every OEM car on the road which specifies which portions of the car are made from which type of steel alloy. When you work it, you notice iHSS & UHSS doesn't yield like mild steel, not as malleable or pliable, much more brittle in the way it fails - cracks, tears, sharp kinks. Heating it with a torch and pulling it straight takes a lot of the strength out of it. How much? I don't know; I'm neither a metallurgist nor an engineer. This is the main reason why modern cars that appear to have minor "fender bender" damage are written off as totalled. The proper fix when dealing with HSS or UHSS that is kinked is to use the damaged portion while pulling to get the adjacent panels as straight as possible and then cut out and replace the entire damaged member at a mfr approved location utilizing a mfr. approved method - like back at the firewall, if at all. Heating and straightening a modern chassis rail is no longer considered a proper repair. A kinked UHSS member should never be put back in service; OEMs vary on what can or can't be done with tweaked HSS. The concern is that member will never have the same strength as when it was first built. For the motoring public, this is progress - lighter, stronger, etc.., but for the shadetree and project car guys, the price of that progress is that it makes any damage beyond the front crash bar a bit of a deal breaker.
You make some very good points - thanks for the input. All the OEMs have a guide to what type of metal/frames you can heat and straighten. It's so confusing though that most probably don't follow it. I'm sure a lot of straightening is going on in shops across the nation. I also think the OEMs are covering themselves a bit too. They should really make some type of rules that guide all body shops on this topic because some I'm sure are straightening and some are not.

How much this kind of work usually costs?
Frame time in a body shop is actually quite expensive. It varies from place to place but usually around 70-100/hr. Once you figure the time and materials, it can easily break into the thousands. That's way vehicles become a total loss to an insurance co very quickly.

Frame time is expensive and depends on the body shop that you go to. Frame time is right around $75/hr. I restore or fix up my own clean title repairable vehicles or do rust repair on cars that I flip so I can't really give you an accurate picture of today's cost :)

@@georgegirgis6435 Which direction did it get bent? Towards the interior of the car, front, back or away from the interior?
@@LakesideAutobody toward interior of the car.... it is passenger door front lower hinge so if you facing the passenger side door the hinge instead of being 90 degrees with frame (door panel ) now it is about 60 degrees on the angle towards the front of the vehicle
@@georgegirgis6435 Got it. Usually the fender would have to be removed and you might be able to get to the hinge. Sometimes you can grab the hinge in the right spot with a pulling clamp and frame machine but other times you have to mig weld a piece of metal on the hinge and pull from that. If it happened because the door was opened to far, you might be able to use the door itself to fix it by putting a block of wood in the hinge like a nut cracker and close the door on it. There's all kinds of ways to go at it but generally you have to pull it. You can use a come along too if you don't have any other way to pull it. A tree and a come along can work real well :)

These high strength steel cars these days are springy you have to pull beyond center more than the low strength steel cars of the past and let it spring back to the zero alignment. The chief easy liner with two extra towers was my choice and the insurance companies would pay us repair labor for marks left by the clamps on the pinch welds clean up because the clamps leave marks on the pinch Welds.

I think within the next two weeks will be to paint my car after my parents get done with garage sale. Am waiting on God to give me the ordain place he wants me to live at. Place recently called me yesterday about a house but not just looking for any house want to be living what God wants me to live. A reality company called me this week I did look at apartments and apply to one though but none called me back. Then this week got a call from the reality company. They were trying to get me more in the process of buying a house but I know will know when the ordain house from God will come because I prayed on it already. But once I get the house I wanna quit my job to work for God's kingdom and do what he wants me to do and that will show God I am really relying on him because I will have left the job am doing now. I know my dad won't like me doing it this way but he is realizing now even though am in 43 that he is letting me make my own decisions. Which I have to live my own life and do what God wants me to do not my family, relatives, friends and parents. In the end God and Jesus the ones that did everything in my life and I have to go through Jesus to get heaven one day. Plus am gonna have to account for what I did for Jesus and God one day and I don't wanna live the rest of my life and had did nothing for God's kingdom. I know I have to make smart choices in life though which in the past honestly did make the wrong choices. This guy I watched on UA-cam that I believe tells the truth named Tireo but he has a real relationship with Jesus and he can hear God voice for himself watching his videos have given me a new outlook in life on what I have to do for my life and think.
In life you need a job and a place to live. What if you just made the choice yourself on your job and your house THEN let God guide you. For example: If you fail utterly at work and it's just a complete disaster that could be God saying, "Time to move on guy." or if you move into a house and you find out that you are miserable there, that could be God saying, "Time to move my friend." Paul the Apostle was a tent maker for example (not sure if he liked that job) but he earned money by making tents, in order to support himself in his real ministry to Christ. That can be a model to live your life by and let God guide you along the way.
Good job
Thanks 😊
