Jim Carrey knows how it works, he uses his voice as an instument. He doesn´t just look at the lyrics and sing them, he creates his own version of the song.
Yup. Lennon had one of the great rock n' roll voices, and you can't cover this song without a strongly emotive voice. The beat is repetitive and it's a only a two-note melody, so the timbre of the voice carries the song. It doesn't have to sound like Lennon, but it MUST convey his smart-ass punk attitude. Mission accomplished.
As a professional vocalist for over 20 years, I can say with certainty that there was no bad note there, or anywhere else in the tune. Although he definitely styled it differently, he absolutely nailed it! Great tune, great expression, great freedom.
As an amateur vocalist for 40 years even my unprofessional ear can hear his voice crack on the word "pigs" in the second line, about 8 seconds into his vocal. But it's not a bad note to a professional ear, l suppose.

I can really picture him performing in albums like Foxtrot, singing 'Supper's Ready', with its impressive range of different voices, impersonations and theatricality.
