The laptop sleeve on the old one was the #1 complaint of the Farpoint 40. You never want heavy items far away from your back. It causes back pain. Also, I would have liked to see you fully pack it out and maybe show what all you were able to pack into this. Other than that, this is a well done review.
I owned the older version previously but I sold it due to the laptop compartment position. I've got the newer version in grey and this is a fantastic bag. thanks for the upload.
Yes, there is. The new model has a laptop compartment on the back where your spine is. The old model has the laptop component in the very front of the back. Thanks for watching.
You can also tell by the front water bottle pockets being of mesh netting in the older model, while in the newer one (as of 2024) they're made of the same material as the rest of the pack
Hello there! Your video was useful! Thanks a lot! Is this allowed in the UK/Europe as one small cabin bag on flights such as Ryanair/Easyjet? Any idea?
For Ryanair it would be a larger second cabin bag, for the overhead locker, if you pay extra for Priority. It wouldn't count as your free under seat bag.
Nice view mate, I just bought one in Perth Australia to try out, bought the daypack (seperate) too. What colours did you go with? Looks like black bag and grey daypack? I borrowed my dad’s Porter 46 and it was a little bigger than I wanted for carry on (regional airlines Australia). I really liked the laptop compartment with a seperate section for iPad, and all the pockets and sections were good, and the straps oh so comfy. I’ve always loved 5.11 tactical back packs (havoc30, rush24 and lv10). But after no luck with finding stock of the LV18 I found your video and thought I’ll give Osprey another try. Thanks for the great video 👍🏽
I was originally glad when I heard that they put the laptop area in the back of the bag as having it in the front is a terrible design idea for several reasons, but I agree that the execution of this design was not optimal. I feel like the Osprey Farpoint has always been on the verge of being a great travel bag for my needs, but is just a few tweaks away from getting there.
Farpoint 40 vs Porter 30. I could use some advice. The Porter seems more organized but it is supposedly smaller yet the main compartment looks about the same as the Farpoint, especially the way the laptop sleeve intrudes in the Main Compartment on the Farpoint.
I checked out both and think the Farpoint 40 is better just in case you need to carry additional items. Personally, I rather have more space and not need it than to have less space but need more of it later on. As I said in the review, the 40 is allowed on most airlines overhead cabins. So having an additional 10L wont be too bad to have. Also, it comes down to your physiology. If you're a smaller person, then the Porter 30 may work best for your frame but I've met people with smaller frames have the 40L and have a positive experience with it. Hope this helps.
@@dvampofo Thanks for the info. The funny thing was that when I opened the Porter 30 and the Farpoint 40 side by side I didn't notice much of a space difference in their main compartments except the Farpoint was slightly longer. I think the reason is because the laptop sleeve intrudes into the main compartment on the Farpoint where in the Porter no other compartments intrude on the main compartment. I've traveled with the Porter 30 and depending on how it's packed, I can actually fit it under the seat in front of me. I like the Farpoint I just got, but truthfully if I knew how the laptop compartment intrudes into the main compartment I probably wouldn't have gotten it because it really isn't giving me the extra space I thought it would to justify the money spent when I already owned a Porter 30.
@@dvampofo Search the bag on youtube most of them have 2 zippers on the laptop compartment.. its frustrating.. I contacted Osprey and they say it only has 1 and to link the video's.. I linked 4 video's of the same bag all with 2 zippers..
Some has two zippers but the most up to date one has one zipper and a hook on the top so it’s still lockable however I wouldn’t call that fabric hook secure at all.
@@danielpeti3885 Yeah it's just lazy.. not even lazy it's trying to earn that extra buck.. it pissed me off so I send it back.. They already cut all the organisational features and they still downgrading the bag to earn a few more dollars ridiculous..
I own this pack. Holds a lot of things well, but it is extremely uncomfortable for more than 15 minutes with any weight over 10lbs in it. Im looking for a new pack.
Hi Sergio, I think the Farview 40 (designed for women) may not be the best for men depending on your height and weight. From my research, "The hip-belts of the Fairview are shorter and deeper than Farpoint because Fairview is designed for women. ... The hip belt of the Fairview is a bit shorter, and also has a deeper curve. This allows the belt to hug smaller body frames tighter, sitting perfectly under the ribs on the waist. Second: The shoulder straps of the Farpoint are a little bit thicker and straight than the Fairview" I speculate that as such, these features could cause an imbalance in weight distribution and could cause some back discomfort.

Osprey does great work. I've been rocking the Porter 46 and a Daylite pack as my travel solution.

Hi, when I was in Europe, it was allowed in the cabin overhead compartment and no fees were charged for doing that.
Thanks for watching.

You also only have 1 zipper.on the laptop compartment.. why do some farpoints on youtube have 2 so it's lockable but ours only have 1??
I dont think there are 2 zippers for the laptop compartment. The older model and this updated version only have 1 zipper.
Thanks for watching.

Feels like it is a downgrade from previous model.
