If you asked me, yes Chuggington did start off as a Thomas clone, especially in terms of merchandise lines as seen in this video, but as a fan of Chuggington myself, the reason why Chuggington did that little bit better than Thomas was because at the time Chuggington had better writing than Thomas. And by better writing I meant in terms of stories, I can excuse the fact that the engines bounce because it was its own thing and the characters didn't talk like babies and had more interesting personalities and variation in terms of the types of characters that appeared as opposed to the Steam Team getting most of the spotlight. You'll be happy to know that since those early days, Chuggington's range of merchandise has evolved into it's own thing. They have die-cast toys with different couplings to Take N' Play, they replaced their Plarail and Wooden Railway lines with small bath toy like toys and the show is becoming more original. Anyhow, it won't be getting better than Thomas anytime soon because apparently it is failing financially in recent years, quite like the Thomas range was last year, so there may be hope for us yet.
I do agree that the writing on Chuggington was better at the time. I did forget that Chuggington's entrance was around 2009-2011 when the Thomas TV series had abysmal writing and poor stories so that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing!

I would be lying if I said that I've never considered picking up any Chuggington items myself, but my heart is still set on Thomas, and my goal of collecting every TWR item out there is what drives me. I saw that the chuggington magnets on my toys were taller than my wooden Thomas and friends engines so I got an early engineers engine and connected them and the chunggington magnets were still taller than my early engineers Henry or James
Chuggington did have normal track. This track system is called 1, 2, 3 track, and it's kind of like chuggingtons version of the early engineers line. The 1, 2, 3 track system was made for younger children and made to be easier to use. They did have normal track though.
Or make that the plot for your next movie Thomas and The Chugginiers where chuggington is planning on taking over sodor alongside diesel 10 and the other diesels and Thomas has to spy on them so the sodor engines can prepare to defend the island from them
i've gone out of Chuggington now. It's very robotic and feels alien like Cars. they do have humans are eh. However, Underground Ernie looks a bit more appealing than there CGI and realism. nice Cast Away reference.
Chuggington actually was made by a company founded by the former ceo and coo of HiT Entertainment. Chuggington is coming back with a new season next year.
The Chuggington franchise doesn’t make anymore episodes, of course you still see reruns on Disney Junior but after that episode with the Diesel engines running out of fuel, chug patrol and the steam locos go to the docks to get the fuel for the diesels, but after that no more episodes which I fond strange, no actual ending or anything
If I could stayed an idea, perhaps if you show off a scrapyard in will it be episodes of your series you could put some of the rolling stock from these sets and then the scrapheap?

Basically the Chuggington engines in the show go by themselves on their terms. The only reason why their doors open is because in a few episodes like for instance is if…let’s say Peckham the puppy wants to go for a ride to the quarry with Wilson or Eddie(one of the background characters needs to get somewhere but it’s too far of a walk so he would hop inside Zephie’s (another Chuggington engine)cab…. But unlike the engines in Thomas and Friends who need their drivers or someone to be operating them…the engines in Chuggington go by themselves. They power themselves but if someone wants to hitch a ride or needs to hitch a ride….
I think that the main reason that Chuggington failed is character reconition because I remember when Chuggington was popular leokimvideo did a test on his son to see if he could remember Chuggington characters names and Thomas characters names and he couldn’t remember and Chuggington names and that tells me that kids didn’t know who Chuggington characters were and didn’t buy them at least that’s my theory

I actually haven't bought much since the Toys R Us closing sales began. Any "desirable" items that I was interested in were picked over really quick and the discounts weren't that great. What's sad is that even with the 20-30% off discounts, the internet was still cheaper than Toys R Us, which is probably one of the big reasons why they are closing. They can't compete with the online deals.

Around the time you made this video, the Chuggington property was acquired by Herschend Enterprises, and have begun a revitalization of the franchise since then. New toys (motorized) have been available on Amazon, UA-cam content and new episodes are still being made (very slowly at that), and it is still kinda popular now.

Yes, but there was no need to change the Wood track in the first place. It's the same gauge as the old wooden railway track so why the redesign with different connecting points? Now, without those new adaptors, you can't connect to the old TWR track, Brio, Chuggington, Imaginarium, Melissa & Doug, etc. The only reason Mattel made the change is so that you'd have to go out and buy the Wood track packs if you wanted more adaptors. It was a scam by Mattel to make more money and differentiate themselves from all of the other wooden railway brands and now their tracks don't work with the rest of the world.

So most of my life i have only had Brio in The stores. For Track that wasnt a problem. But if you want destinasions or pieces or Engines. You have to order it from another country, then you have to pay shipping and customs fee wich is at 25%. And some other small fees. Soooooo thats sad. I love thomas. I have quite a big collection but thats mostly from before 2010.

To be some ChuggingTon characters are American and some are British so it kind makes scene in why they bigger then Thomas Characters.

What are you doing in chuggington
I will never get why a show full of Diesel Engines is called Chuggington, and I'm not willing to watch it to find out. Still doesn't explain why they make steam engine sounds
Now Mattel trying to be more like that's enemy by making the trains more human like .
I totally hate chuggington because the chuggers are the most ugliest trains also the chuggington series are a thomas rippoff
Wilson was never a Chuganeer... He was chug patrol. He even has the two way radio on his cheek. Brewster is a Chuganeer, and Koko is speed fleet. Love it when manufacturers screw up their own products.
Chuggington is for babies. I'm glad that Thomas and friends won the war and Toy r us is going bankrupt :-(
