I just wonder who at Mattel was sacked after the Thomas WOOD train wreck. Whoever thought a downsizing and total design change with track that worked with nothing else was ever going to fly needs to be locked away from ever making decision for a toy company. I dare say the bean counters at Mattel swallowed the blue pill because they could see Thomas Wood would lead to better profits because parents needed to buy the whole toy over again to make little Johnny or Jilly happy. Just about everyone in the Thomas community who knows the merchandise said it was a fail from day one, yet Mattel took years to work that out. They thought the problem was the lack of paint. It really shows how out of touch this major toy company was in this awkward era. Thank God it looks like the new TWR is headed in the right direction AT A PRICE.

These are a huge impovement and I love them, I think if possible you could fit the old wheels on them as well as maybe the faces! Ima be honest I think heneh looks really good, apart from the extra part on the firebox it’s really good!

I'm really digging the new Thomas wooden railway remakes, highly detailed and very expressive, glad Mattel realized this and put an all in for these Wooden Railway items, I just got Rosie last week, and her model looks amazing, defiantly gonna get Gorden Percy, and Edward.

I haven't touched my Thomas wood trains in years now and honestly these look like a improvement. My only complaints would be the faces and the wheels. I wanna see what these models would look like with the old school wheels and faces. But all that aside these models look like something you'd like to display rather than play with.
I would’ve simply bought Bigjigs’ GWR engine and made that into Duck! (I’d need to buy or borrow a 3D printer for the face, but still!)
These really big improvements and to me feels like a renaissance for wooden railway, I’m happy the track it also getting more detail than before, although the faces could be better they look great!!!
I love them. The only brand that hasn't turned into AEG. so I'm forced to buy them and I love them.
I hope BoCo gets a model. along with Donnie and Douglas

I didn't know what to think of this series when I first saw it, but the more i look into just how detailed and faithful they are to the characters, the more i really appreciate them.
It may sound silly, but my mind is still blown that we're actually getting more accurate wheel configurations.

These new wooden railway engines look really quite good, I especially enjoy the fact that Thomases Splashers are now actually Splashers instead of some painted print under Neath his side tanks they are actually jutting out like they should kinda like the original wooden Thomas except they’re not on the side of his running board. And sure the space between his Splashers and side tanks (that little triangular shaped hole) isn’t an actual space but the way they’ve designed it it looks like you could fit something in there like it was an actual space and it looks fantastic. I also like his cheeky face, it really captures his personality, as long as they’re a cheaper option doesn’t cheap out the face I am completely fine with it that’s how cheaper option should work; less money and it looks great.
I grew up on wooden railway, mainly the ones from the 2000s. While that version will have a special place in my heart, I will admit that the level off detail on these toys is truly an upgrade and while the wheels are a bit bulky, I believe it's all done to make them run better on wooden tracks. Even if the show sucks now, at least some of the merch is good.
After 20 years being on this planet, my childhood toys make a triumphant return!
I am pleasantly surprised at the return of high quality wooden Thomas toys, I never thought of seeing this at my age. The toys would be perfect to me if they actually had the front cab windows…

I appreciate that this line finally gave Edward an accurate wheel arrangement. I can’t speak for the last 15 years or so, but every wooden Edward when I was a kid had only 2 wheels for him and 2 wheels for his tender. Furthermore, they also have 2 sizes of wheels which allows alot of engines to be better portrayed. I never liked wooden Oliver as a kid because his rear axle wheels were the same size as his front two axles.
Great video! I'm glad that there is some good Thomas merchandise being made again. I had Thomas wooden Railway as a kid along with the Ertl Thomas toys, Take N Play, and Tomy Thomas Blue track. The Tomy Thomas merchandise was my favorite as a kid. I still have them stored in my upstairs.
The only thing I dislike about the new wooden trains is that the faces aren’t the smiling default faces like on the (best) original models
I have to disagree personally, I find the smiling faces kinda typical when every engine has one. BUT I totally understand I just like engines to be more emotive myself

A lot of people seem to be confused as to what era of Thomas they’re trying to represent. In my opinion, they’re going for a very neutral style. It’s made to where it can represent both AEG and the CG era. Not just one. And while this may confuse some people, I love it. Because it goes back to the days of the OG wooden railway from the late 90s/Mid 2000s. Hand drawn graphics that didn’t specifically represent the model era. It did it’s own thing. And that’s exactly what this new Wooden Railway is doing. It’s own thing.
I’m personally not a fan of the different facial expressions though as it makes the models inconsistent. I’d much prefer standard smiling faces.

It’s a huge improvement but I’m just not too crazy about the wheel design. Like the spokes on the older version were actually molded and 3D, now they’re just like A sticker. Other than that it’s awesome
I think the sentiment that this is the one time they've redesigned a line and it's actually good is what makes this all the more impressive. Year after year each line got downgraded, I'm a big Tomy fan so the new trackmaster designs really weren't my cup of tea. Take N Play was fine until the dumb magnets and then it got a slight upgrade with the coupling system, but then pretty much got thrown out the window with Push Along. It's so impressive that they're making toys that are just suddenly THIS good. These might be the first toys since the Mattel take over I may actually buy because I love how they look and not just buying it because it was a character I don't have.

I really like the new designs for the new Wooden Railway toys, I remember growing up playing with Wooden Railway toys when I was little
The Gordon one looks the best to me, sans the wheels. There's also ones of Henry, James, Emily, Edward and Toby out now. Henry and Emily look just as great as Gordon, Edward and James are good, but Toby's body is too small compared to his cowcatchers. One other detail I love in the tender engines is there's a little orange glow representing their fire.
Can we appreciate that the video wasn’t a April fools joke and a actual video

I still prefer the originals, but these are pretty cool. In fact, they are a huge step up from what they had going there for a while. Wonderful reveiw.

I find the smile faces not on all the models very unsatisfying. If they get re-released with smiling faces, that's something I'd like to get.

I'm gonna have to wait until the items hit the store for children's wish lists, but im really digging the new wooden railway. And I can sence customized models not to far down the road.
the wheels are super jarring to look at but I understand why they extended them out like that. if you've ever played with the original and tried to make a long line of cars, going over curved tracks would usually cause them to just topple over, so with the new wheels grounded on the track that wouldn't happen nearly as easily. I think it's pretty cool actually

I like the chassis on Gordon. That was always something that bothered me as a kid, I'm fairly sure when I was into wooden railways the big tender locos were all just 0-6-0s with tenders, and later on they had those little floating wheels at the front that were somehow even worse.
2 years later, and I've only now realised Trainboy's "phone" was a diesel (I think). Also, I'm very disappointed they never brought these to Ireland and the UK. All I wanted was the Edward model 😢

Dude ur hilarious the last Wooden Railway characters I got were Henry and Murdoch around 2003 or 2005.
I just ordered Henry earlier today on Amazon and I can’t wait until it comes. These models look snazzy (no sarcasm).

I'm not big on the faces, or the wheels, but not for the reasons you've stated.
The faces: they're too animated. For a kid getting their first Thomas, his face is gonna be stuck in that expression, rather than the kid getting to put their own feelings on Thomas, which is easier with a non-emotive face.
As a part of a collection, though, it rocks.
The wheels: they have the mounting point for the side rods on them, but they do not align with each other unless you make them. That bugs me.
They are also very large, I do agree.

The Gordon and Percy have to be my favourite TWR versions of both characters they're both incredible. As for Thomas my favourite will always be 2002 Thomas but this Thomas is awesome still
If they ever release Rebecca, I'm probably going to buy her just for the sake of modelling my own take on Rebecca in Trainz lol. That, and for collection purposes.

However I'm hesitant about the faces because now you're forced to write a story where Gordon is alarmed and Percy is shocked

The face design allows for easy paintovers for custom faces
So, I am going to say something about the wheel debate. I don't like the wheel's either, but discovered something about them. If you have Original TWR Wheels, they will work just fine. The wheels will fit on perfectly.
If they come to my country Australia, then I should be able to see them at stores like Big W

I do not about anyone in the comments, but the new Wooden Railway wheels really bother me. They really hold the TWR revival back.
That aside I love that Gordon and the other tender engines have bogeys again, I love how small Percy is, and the faces seem interesting.
