I have played the game at least a dozen times, & I can say that this show is the best videogame adaptation ever! You can see she's just done the maths of how screwed the entire city is and the fact that the virus spread through flour and factoring in Countries most likely buy that very flour from indonesia which is now infected with the virus that the whole world is also screwed Joel, Sarah and Tommy got lucky because they didn't have anything with flour for breakfast at the beginning of episode 1 So they didn't get infected
I really like the beginning expansion with Jakarta and that female professor. You can tell she knows the world is fucked. I have mad respect for her because she suggested to bomb the city. 1. She’s not a politician or military member that has to make ‘life-and-death’ decisions on a daily basis; she’s a freaking scientist. So she knows the gravity of what she’s suggesting; and 2. She does not try to buy her or her family a way out because she’s an expert. She is willing to stay and die, mostly because she doesn’t know if she’s sick or her family is sick and she’d rather stay with them and die. Love this show; can’t wait to see more.

Yeah they couldn't really use the spores method of transmission because in REALITY there's no way you are gonna wear a gasmask literally for every second of the rest of your life, so literally nobody would survive unless they are immune. This method of transmission actually leaves room for survivors even making sense to exist. It worked for the game because it is a video game and suspension of disbelief, plus they did it for gameplay reasons too. I'm glad they have the freedom to actually color outside the lines on this, it has already added multiple multiple layers of depth and atmosphere to the lore. Literally everyone eats food with flour in it, or grain, and it explains how it went global so quickly. Fantastic additions.
The thing that killed me about Tess' death was her begging Joel to take Ellie, saying she's never asked him for anything, not ''to feel the way I feel.'' Like yes they're a couple but Joel is so obviously broken over losing Sarah that he doesn't want to risk opening his heart to anyone again (except Tommy), and Tess had to be content with whatever affection Joel could give her.
Yes, Tess said it so fast, "to feel the way I feel," breaks my heart. What a great performance and I really wish we could have seen a lot more of Tess.
One of my favorite parts of the editing is 9:13 Joe to Ellie: From this point on we have to be silent PWHustle: we going to the quiet place Joe to Ellie: .. not quiet… SILENT
@@rodneyramos2433 I can really only fit in so much (that's what she said) but actually, I will try to add Louise and MAC at the very least (didn't know they were reacting to it). Normies are cool but their videos take forever to edit and there's like 30 of them lol
Tess' death in this show is a lot different than how it was in the game. Also, they did an incredible job with recreating the Clickers from the games for their debut in this episode.
@@Francis... in the game it's not the infected that get tess, but it's FEDRA. If memory serves me right I think FEDRA finds out about the plans that the fireflies had and they come looking for them. Tess does get infected, however instead of blowing the place up she stays behind fighting FEDRA in order to give joel and ellie some time to run. She dies in the gun fight. There were no infected in this portion of the game, however we do get to see the clickers at around the same time as in the show (i think, it's been a long time since i've played lol)
True, it is different but this does make more sense for the story told here. It would be very weird for FEDRA to come back here for no reason all of the sudden to kill them when FEDRA don't even know who Joel, Tess and Ellie is.
What I like especially about this Tess is that she feels very much more human. She didn't go down fighting like a classic action hero badass, but that's not a bad thing, she stayed and sacrificed what little time she had left for the sake of Joel, Ellie, and a "hope" that none of them were 100% sure of but nevertheless put faith in. Her death was dark, tragic, but genuinely so much more human in the series.
The set pieces in this episode were breathtaking, I can't believe we're actually getting to see these characters explore an abandoned city like this, they could have easily set the show in one of the safe zones and centered it around a different story but instead they're going all out and it's awesome to see.
I posted this on New Rockstars account about that whole zombie kiss (I shuddered at it too, don’t worry) and on why that scene was so tragic. It’s a perversion of the hero’s sacrifice. I thought it made sense looking back. Think about it, Tess is doing the hero’s sacrifice, laying her life down for the one she loves. Usually before that, heroes get a whole dramatic kiss before they break away to make their sarcifice but Tess, doesn’t. Because of the infection, or because Joel doesn’t feel the same (which I disagree too? I just think he was scared of feeling the same because he knew he’d lose her) she doesn’t. She doesn’t even get the last confession that rested on her heart. She has to die now, with a monster infecting her with a poisoned kiss as her last memory, not her in the arms of her beloved. That’s why it works. Such sad irony, I feel for her. In a sense, Tess dies terrified and violated. In the Last of Us world, there are no heroes, and there are no happy endings. It’s just, sad.
I assumed it did that to her because it could sense she was infected and the "kiss" connects her into the fungal network more rapidly (or accelerates the process). We've never seen them behave like that but it's just my head canon. I might just be rationalizing because it's such a disturbing scene. I love stomach-turning body horror but that shot made me cringe Thematically, it still works exactly as you described it-- a violation
As Sean Tank Top called them "Blooming Onion heads" It also seems some people dont understand the fungus was taking over her inhibiting her from moving away. All she could do was try to light the lighter.
Yup, the fungus knew she was already infected, the kiss just sped up the process. In the TLOU podcast they mention the lighter finall flicking was Tess’ last fight against the infection.
Cordyceps being able to sense someone miles away is a shout out to another real-life fungus, Armillaria ostoyae, which covers nearly 2,400 acres of land in Oregon 🤯
I respect that Indonesian professor for how she handled the situation. She knew the world screwed and her suggestion to bomb the city was objective. She knew as a scientist that it was over. And those clickers were freaking scary! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. This makes me not want to play the game lol. Tess went out like a gangsta! Respect! ROP.
That opening scene is exceptional. The scientist basically choosing the extreme option and the soldier hopeful for a peaceful solution, genuine chills up and down watching that. I think we’ve finally found a winner in this game adaption guys, girls and everyone in between.
Those Clickers are AMAZING! I’m sure more veteran TLUO gamers have more to say. But as a simple watcher they truly bring me fear. The fungus through their shattered skulls, the haunting sounds they make and their movements. It scares me
Fun fact, the people that did the acting for the clickers in the show are the same people that originally did the motion capture for the game. That's why they look and move so absolutely perfect
@@Nick-mp1zh that's freaking AWESOME!! I'm loving how they're incorporating all the people that worked on the game into the show. Like, we got Tommy's voice actor on screen last episode in a totally different (and created!)l role, that's soooo cool! Can't wait to see Troy and Ashley!!!

I’m glad the directors understood the early 2000s on the episodes so far! All the destroyed cars in the city match the time period before everything went to shit and in the first episode you can see that Bush is the most recent president.
The show forces you to keep up by planting little details and not necessarily spelling them out, which is amazing for both audience development, appreciation, and rewatch. One of those details I didn’t realize until after was that Tess was having issues with the lighter and couldn’t avoid the tendrils because her spasms started. It almost would’ve been a scarier / crazier outcome if she never got the lighter off because of them.

LOVE THIS SHOW, as a fan of TLoU for years since the first game came out and I’m so proud of the makers of this show sticking to the plot and making this amazing, can’t say the same for the Halo TV show
That KISS was AWESOME!!!!! Real horror!! It was good for reasons, 1. it showed you a little more of how the zombies work, and 2. YOU WILL NEVER EVER FORGET THAT!! If they just blew her up, that is a death that happens to all characters, 30 years from now you will remember that!! That director made sure of it!
i wont lie i didnt have high expectations for the show but I'm very glad to say that they have been blown out of the water. its very faithful to the game so far but I also love the extra context/storytelling they add.
I actually spent time watching the entire episode after watching an easter egg video. I don't do tv shows with this theme; just not interested. But I love the way they opened this episode. As with many commentators and reviewers, this episode (and the first) provided an explanation as to the cause and if there's a cure, the knowledge behind what actions were taken, etc. I can appreciate this. Thanks for weaving another beautiful narrative.
the kiss is definitely for the creepy factor, BUT, a few things it does give us: if an infected sees you and your not actively running or fighting, it will move slowly, 1 likely because the fungus knows to try and preserve the soon to be host as much as possible, whereas clickers cant see, they just swing with some biting, resulting in more deaths instead of tackle bites into infections without death. It makes sense from a standpoint of like this isint the walking dead, they arent going for the kill, they want to pass the infection as harmlessly as possible. And 2 is that this gives people the opportunity to buy themselves precious moments to grab a weapon slowly or something when in tess's position against not as many
I love to see that these content creators react almost exactly like I do. When I watched this episode, it was 10:00 at night and I woke up everyone in the house with the jump scares. Mr. O'Dell, thank you for making these compilation videos. I love them.
I don't know if this was intentional or not. But I liked how when they first meet the clicker it's through that dirty glass almost reminds me of "listening mode."
10/10 Amazing tension!! This was another amazing episode just like the first one! Once again it manages to capture the vibe and atmosphere of the game! There were multiple scenes where i got the same feeling as if i were playing the game! They really did a great job of making it intrigueing just to have the characters explore! Once again the actors are amazing! They have some great chemistry and interactions that makes it very enjoyable to see them on screen! This episode also had some great intense moments where i think i holded my breath a couple of times! The design of the infected is also solid! I like how the show also tells us more about the disease!
Great context all around. Just watched the show except saving last episode for my Wife and I. In the meantime this is FANTASTIC, its like getting to re-watch with all the feeling I felt. This is also a great show to clear out your tear ducts.
Thank you for this! I truly hope someone at YT comes to their senses and understands what it is that you do. I've often wondered if you're being picked on because you're "the little guy". I've subscribed to every iteration of your channel since you left Skybound and I was loving your vids before I knew you'd done their reaction videos. How is your channel supposed to grow if YT keeps interfering with it? You've certainly got talent and content worthy of a larger following. I really hope the show gives us glimpses of what happened in the past 20 years, even bit by bit. I also heard episode 3 would be a blast and I'm looking forward to next week.
I'm so glad someone mentioned the glasses still standing because I said the same thing when I was watching. I also thought those clickers sounded like velociraptors
As someone who knows nothing about the video game, I'm traveling blind here waiting to see what happens. Bummed about Tess!! she was a great character .
Interesting fact: There was much civil unrest in our world's Indonesia in 2003, including a bombing that killed up to 188 people. The Indonesian government was at war with a separatist group in what's known as the "Aceh war" and the military was known to show up and kidnap civilians and for them to never show up again. So when the doctor sees military personnel show up for her, she's terrified she's next. The level of detail this show gets into is amazing!
Never heard of the game heard the hype from co workers about this show gave it a try and love it. I actually just finished the 2nd episode and came here to see my favorite reactors.
I had a hope that I might have a good chance of surviving a walking dead type scenario but I would have definitely given up if the situation was like the Last of Us. The fear generated by this show gives me chills but I can't really look away from my screen. The makers of the show really nailed it 😎
Fun Fact: The lighter that Tiss uses in this episode to blow the museum is the same lighter Nathan Drake used in Uncharted 4, confirmed by Naughty Dog.

People give this show so much hate and never appreciate the fact that so far this has been one of the best video game adaptation that came out in a long while since Sonic and Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist
I think its because of they know what will happen after TLOU 1. I mean if this show plays out just like first game you can bet that everyone will hate it if there's a season 2 And I would feel real bad for abby if this show gives a tease like hearing her name or give her a short screen time because if that happens.... oh boy... For me? this show is not that bad.
Not many are giving TLOU hate to be honest. I never heard of the game so this is all new to me (and tonnes like me) so it's all good it's a brilliant show 👌
"The Last of Us" is really reminding me of "The Walking Dead" when it was at it's best. I LOVE TWD and always will so I'm not comparing them like which is better or anything like that but it's just giving off the same type of vibes when TWD was the biggest thing on TV. Never played the game but I heard of it and I was familiar with the concept but damn is this looking good. Will be tuning in every Sunday just like I did for TWD.

Glad you like them!
I was literally fussing at Ellie for talking so damn much in the museum like girl STFU! 😭😭😂
Goddamn solid second episode!
This episode was just like the Clickers: gross, intense, creepy and amazing.
Can't wait for the Bill & Frank episode this Sunday!
The opening scenes were amazing. I love how the professor acted. She’s phenomenal.
8:21
"Museummmm oh no museum" 😳
LOVE THIS SHOW, as a fan of TLoU for years since the first game came out and I’m so proud of the makers of this show sticking to the plot and making this amazing, can’t say the same for the Halo TV show
Kudos to Johnny for busting these out so quickly! Kudos to the reactors as always!
Soundgarden vinyls, soundgarden shirt.
ALL HAIL 8TRAC BROWN! 🙌🏼
*literally just a random creaking and clicking noise*
“Oh my god, the clickers..!”
“It’s foreshadowing.”
YESSS I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, another great video!! can't wait for episode 3 🥰🥰
THESE REACTIONS ARE HILARIOUS!!! 😂😂😂😂 SUBSCRIBED* 👍🏾
Woo thanks for the sub!
1:00 😂I love his singing
the kiss is definitely for the creepy factor, BUT, a few things it does give us: if an infected sees you and your not actively running or fighting, it will move slowly, 1 likely because the fungus knows to try and preserve the soon to be host as much as possible, whereas clickers cant see, they just swing with some biting, resulting in more deaths instead of tackle bites into infections without death. It makes sense from a standpoint of like this isint the walking dead, they arent going for the kill, they want to pass the infection as harmlessly as possible. And 2 is that this gives people the opportunity to buy themselves precious moments to grab a weapon slowly or something when in tess's position against not as many
11:00 that’s the same reaction that happened to me 😂
I love to see that these content creators react almost exactly like I do. When I watched this episode, it was 10:00 at night and I woke up everyone in the house with the jump scares. Mr. O'Dell, thank you for making these compilation videos. I love them.
Can we appreciate the thought process:
‘Museuuuuuuum-🥰….. oh no. museum.’
I don't know if this was intentional or not. But I liked how when they first meet the clicker it's through that dirty glass almost reminds me of "listening mode."
Beautiful edit.... looking forward to future episodes.
10/10
Amazing tension!!
This could be the best live action video game adaptation series ever
8:53 that freshly dead guy was definitely that loud ass scream we heard earlier when they were outside...
I've been waiting for this, THANK YOU!!!!!
Great context all around. Just watched the show except saving last episode for my Wife and I. In the meantime this is FANTASTIC, its like getting to re-watch with all the feeling I felt. This is also a great show to clear out your tear ducts.
“Chicken my ahh it’s probably a cat” took me out 😭
Thank you for this! May 2023 be the year all obstacles to your growth and prosperity are removed.
I really hope the show gives us glimpses of what happened in the past 20 years, even bit by bit. I also heard episode 3 would be a blast and I'm looking forward to next week.
8:20 Museuuuuuuuum😃😃😃.... oh no Museum😰
“Chicken my @$$ it’s probably a cat!” Killed me 😂💀
I'm so glad someone mentioned the glasses still standing because I said the same thing when I was watching. I also thought those clickers sounded like velociraptors
As someone who knows nothing about the video game, I'm traveling blind here waiting to see what happens. Bummed about Tess!! she was a great character .
That comment about getting “demonitized” was hilarious 😂 5:13
3:37 “chicken my ass, that’s probably a cat” :))))
Shoutout to Tess! She was a real one. 😔😔
1:39 my favorite reaction
Interesting fact: There was much civil unrest in our world's Indonesia in 2003, including a bombing that killed up to 188 people. The Indonesian government was at war with a separatist group in what's known as the "Aceh war" and the military was known to show up and kidnap civilians and for them to never show up again.
So when the doctor sees military personnel show up for her, she's terrified she's next.
The level of detail this show gets into is amazing!
Never heard of the game heard the hype from co workers about this show gave it a try and love it. I actually just finished the 2nd episode and came here to see my favorite reactors.
Finally the best comp maker dropped.
It’s crazy to think instead of spores from the game, it’s the cordyceps vines trip mine, both very terrifying
I had a hope that I might have a good chance of surviving a walking dead type scenario but I would have definitely given up if the situation was like the Last of Us. The fear generated by this show gives me chills but I can't really look away from my screen. The makers of the show really nailed it 😎
6:19 "tHe FrOg Is PlAyIn' ThE pIaNo!"
9:11 bro that was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
7:02 best line ever in reaction history
This is filmed in Calgary - Canada. My city. So to see our landmarks is really cool
Fun Fact:
The lighter that Tiss uses in this episode to blow the museum is the same lighter Nathan Drake used in Uncharted 4, confirmed by Naughty Dog.
That kiss man I still think about it 😿
Yeah that scene still sticks with me and I still cringe
'Looks like I hate it...'
😂😂😂 I've been singing this for weeks!
The largest flower mill in the world is in Jakarta. There ya go
I really liked watching the last reaction video, I’m so glad you uploaded one again!! :D
Here are some timestamps I collected throughout the video :)
6:18. “ThE fRoG iS pLaYiNg ThE PiAnO!!!” Lmao love that sentence
6:52. Collective screaming from the jumpscare :D
7:50. Again, it feels like these people are reacting on each other, while actually all watching the video alone.. It’s just perfectly cut to feel like they are talking to each other lol
16:49. Collective “Euughblehhh?!?!” Lmao
17:29. Everyone takes a breather
I swear, coming back to these always give me one hell of a laugh no matter how serious a show is 🤣🤣 these mfs are hilarious
I have played the game at least a dozen times, & I can say that this show is the best videogame adaptation ever! It does what any good adaptation should do; be mostly loyal to the original source material, but change just enough so there's something new yet still enjoyable to watch. About 80% of what we see in the 1st 2 episodes is from the 1st few levels of the game, but the remaining 20% is things like expanded backstory & more development for certain characters we didn't originally get.
People give this show so much hate and never appreciate the fact that so far this has been one of the best video game adaptation that came out in a long while since Sonic and Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist
I think its because of they know what will happen after TLOU 1. I mean if this show plays out just like first game you can bet that everyone will hate it if there's a season 2
And I would feel real bad for abby if this show gives a tease like hearing her name or give her a short screen time because if that happens.... oh boy...
For me? this show is not that bad.
@@High-Pie_Chop ohhhhhh ok I get it
I mean that's not saying much
Not many are giving TLOU hate to be honest. I never heard of the game so this is all new to me (and tonnes like me) so it's all good it's a brilliant show 👌
Amazing editing, again. Thank you!!!
9:21 knees weak arms are heavy
There's vomit on her sweater already. Mom's spaghetti.
The game also released the same year when TWD was in golden age as well (2013 not to mention Telltales TWD SS1 about a year before that)
4:36 funny, because she has her knife. And we all know she is damm good with it
Man, those clickers were really the best. It made me feel like shitting my pants fr
Thanks for the add Mix Master J! No naked Grandmas this episode. 😂
The lighter isnt working because its a movie lighter. They're designed to light at the very very last second.
I bet you have a lot of friends
16:38-16:40 "What is happening" "Why is it not working"
lack of Naphtha
"Chicken my a*s, that's probably a cat"
Reminds me of siopao
@lnboxontele_gramJ2OYT no
Love the video J20! I saw first one also. Keep them coming!❤️👍
Rest in peace, Tess ❤️
I hope someone makes a meme where in the museum, first time the clicker makes their sound and then Jared Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad appears.
