Best, most versatile KUIU camouflage pattern yet. Thank you for this detailed explanation. Understanding the design intent really helps me appreciate the advantages of this pattern. As always, the best camouflage to wear depends on the environment, but since I generally can't afford to buy expensive items several times to have them in different patterns, I tend to make do with a versatile pattern that works well across seasons, especially for smaller items. This is immediately my preferred KUIU camo pattern for year-round use, though the others certainly are preferable in the environments they're intended for.
I still generally prefer more popular modern high-end commercial and military patterns, and I'd still be willing to pay a little extra for a non-proprietary pattern that matched my non-KUIU equipment (like Multicam or derivatives), but I'm now significantly less grouchy about the limitations of KUIU camo options.
Valo will probably play pretty well with your Multicam. We'd be interested to see how it works for you!

Still on the line on buying valo lol. I love my verde camo here in the southeast. But fall brings a mix of colors in my woods. I think valo will be effective in the late season when I’m up in a tree in my saddle. I also think it might be effective in the spring when I’m in the ground turkey hunting. Awesome job Kuiu as always!!!

Because Brown colors are found everywhere, forest floors, trees and deserts, I chose the VALO pattern for my Yukon rain parka. As you can see in this video VALO seems to fit most environments.

With the desert camo work for Arizona hunts?
Absolutely. We see that as one of the primary use cases for this pattern. We tested it in both Mexico and California's Sonoran Desert.
I live here in California, so what are the benefits of this new pattern over the Vias pattern? Seems like Valo is really for the Eastern states for the Fall and early Spring. I only have the solid and Vias patterns and it works perfectly with the terrain here in California and all Western states. Thanks.
I think they explained that in the video. There is a video made by them that goes into great detail about each pattern and what it was intended for. Outside of that, if what you have is perfect for your intended use as you said than stick with it.
Here in California, Valo will work great in the yellow grass and oak hill country coming into the summer months. Basically anytime the vegetation is on the dry side. It really depends on what kind of country you're hunting in--Vias is still incredibly effective for outline breakup in broken terrain, but Valo will be great in areas where there's less cover and contrast. I bow hunt all over CA and live in SoCal, I'm from Iowa and hunt back there often and also east coast as well as SW for elk. Because I wanted to go with just one pattern, I went with Valo. Really am happy how well it seems to take on surrounding colors and shades. Overall, just one....Valo from what you said in your statement.

If I were to use only one pattern which would be the most versatile? I hunt from high mountain pines and shell rock down to pinions in the desert.
I would say for those use cases Valo would be your likely pick, assuming that your time in the high mountains isn't necessarily during really green springtime weather. Valo will definitely be your best choice for deserts.
What would you say the best pattern is for Missouri woods whitetail and turkey if you could just pick one for all season early to late?
Hmm, there are a few things to consider here. As far as we're aware, turkeys see color pretty well, so spring turkey hunting in green conditions would probably favor Verde. But Valo would probably work better for the rest of the year, when the colors are less bright and contrasty. Valo will pick up and reflect some of the green tones, so it is probably your most versatile choice for that region. But ultimately, YOU will be the best judge--you know the conditions you hunt in better than anyone. If you need the green colors and more outline breakup throughout the year, Verde is the way to go. But if your primary hunting need is for conditions where there's less contrast, and you need to minimize movement detection, then Valo will be your choice.

What pattern do you suggest for sheep and moose hunts in Alaska?
It depends on the vegetation; I doubt you'll hunt moose in all-rock environments, so Vias may not be your best all-around choice. If you'll be hunting in a mixture of rocky terrain for sheep and dead brush for moose, then Valo will be your best bet. But if the sheep you're hunting are in a greener area, or you're hunting moose when veg is still green, then Verde will be best for that.
Would valo be good for the badlands in western north dakota early to late season for deer and elk
You'll know the terrain you hunt better than we ever could; choose Valo if the vegetation is predominantly dead during the times you hunt. If it's green and higher in contrast, Verde is the best choice. If it's primarily rocky, then Vias would be your best option.

Hey Adin--we think Valo will work well as a camo pattern for many waterfowl environments. It's perfect for grasses and reeds where the contrast is usually lower. We're located in the Pacific Flyway, and the hunters in the office bag tons of ducks and geese wearing KUIU gear.

Wish you guys would make a camo for eastern/southeastern whitetail hunting, treestand hunting and general close range. I’ve tried Verde down here, stands out like a sore thumb with those giant black spots. Last I looked, more money was spent on hunting gear in the southeast than any other demographic. Not sure why you guys would ignore the market.
Valo is made for exactly those purposes.
This new camo pattern doesn’t work well for where I live. I like that KUIU is creating more options for hunters in different areas. I’d like to see at least 1 more option.
BC_Hunter, your name implies that you're in British Columbia--if that's the case, Verde is probably a good fit for a good part of the year. What kind of country are you hunting that our patterns aren't covering?
KUIU Ultralight Hunting You’re right. I own mostly all Verde 2.0 and love it for my environment. I feel it’s the better option of the three.

Quality, material technology, leadership and not even close to being the most expensive.
What K EE said ^^. We're using materials that are too expensive for the retail market--if we were selling in stores, the prices would be 40% higher. We think we're hitting a decent balance in value--there are plenty of retail brands that are priced higher than us, and some of that is only because of the retail markup, not a quality increase.
@@kuiuultralight did your prices drop when you started having it made in asia? Or was that cost-savings just for the company itself?
Great question--and the answer is yes, but not for the reasons you might think. It was primarily a volume-oriented decision. We were originally working with a cut-and-sew operation in Vancouver, but we were not able to get as much capacity as we wanted from them, and it really lengthened our supply chain, which was adding a ton of lead time. At the time, we wanted more capacity, but we were being squeezed out of their factory time by another manufacturer who already had the majority of their business (I'm sure you can guess who, given the location).
So, we started exploring other options. Toray, who makes the majority of our fabrics, offered us the chance to vertically integrate with some of their cut-and-sew operations. Their factories are not cheap at all; they run a tight ship and care as much about quality there as they do in their fabric development and manufacturing. The cost was about equal with what we were getting in Vancouver, and it provided the added benefit of a shortened supply chain.
So yes, in one sense, we did save some money by shortening the supply chain. And because Toray allowed us to scale our capacity up, we were able to get some volume discounts. At the time, we did actually drop our prices when the transition was complete: ua-cam.com/video/RqMKYIWIVJk/v-deo.html

There are some similarities, but Valo has a bit more contrast and larger macro breakup areas than Multicam.
