Comparing a Transparent Faceted Ruby to a Star Ruby by GIA. In this video, learn about two beautiful representations of red ruby as they are compared side by side. One is a faceted ruby gem and the other is a star ruby. The star ruby has a bit of a blue shade to the stone and shines with a star in the middle. Several factors affect the cut and proportion of faceted ruby gems on the market. A ruby’s crystal shape dictates its suitability for certain cuts. The most common shape is a flat tabular hexagonal shape, but ruby crystals from some sources can be elongated. To accommodate ruby crystal shapes, the most common shapes of fashioned rubies are ovals and cushions, with brilliant-cut crowns of kite-shaped and triangular facets, and step-cut pavilions with concentric rows of rectangular or square facets.

1 ct is it worth star ruby pink
Hey
Do you know if these gemstones with asterism stars can be cut and turned into glittering jewels or should they only be used in their natural form?
if you could choose half a kilo of stone, would you prefer a half kilo ruta ruby gem or a half kilo star ruby?? which one is worth more?
No, its hard enough to find star asterism like you see in this video
What is difference between fissure filled Ruby and glass filled ruby
Both Glass filled and fissure filled rubies are inferior in quality to unheated rubies. Google for actual detailed descriptions. While most rubies undergo some heating, fissure filling vastly reduces quality.
Price please
i gott 1 ct and it's shinin crazy
which is more beautiful ? transparent faceted or star ?
is it possible to have star in a transparent faceted ruby ?
thanks
Both transparent faceted and star stones can be beautiful. It is a matter of personal preference which one you choose. Gems that display a star are never completely transparent because the star is caused by light reflecting off of inclusions inside the gem.
Official GIA Channel thank you. So it is different by the treatment or something ? Heat treatment maybe ? I prefer crystal clear 😊 more like diamond quality
The star is like transparent flat silk layers in the rough gem. The shape of the gem, the curb if the stone brings out the star. If it were cut flat and faceted like the square ruby then the stone would show the silk as if a veil in the stone and would not be transparent. I like stars better but I like all kinds of stars or silk in gemstones.
Amazing
I'm confused. Is the star Ruby's "star" made from inclusions or light reflection? It seems like the "star" doesn't move when you moved the gem? So I'm guessing it's an inclusion/lines in the stone??
