  • Cheap brake upgrade that includes drilled & slotted rotors with beefy brake pads. This Power Stop Extreme package ended up costing $400 total & included all parts needed to complete the install. The upgraded brake package includes both rotors and pads for much better stopping power over stock setup. I have looked into Baer Brake kits, Brembo Brake kits, Ebc brakes which are all amazing options. Power Stop though

      Luke Gargano lol and the unsprung weight you adding with that kit is so heavy. You’re better off getting a big brake kit and calling it a day. Especially since it comes with 2 pice rotors which are lighter than the factory rotors and don’t warp or shutter.

    I did a brake upgrade on my 99 Dodge ram using Power Stop but I also upgraded the calipers. They are now better than new. The brakes on my 2018 Chrysler 300 seem to over heat too fast and are only good for one emergency stop. After that, it does not want to stop. I was going down a steep mountain in Wyoming when the brake fade so bad, I had to pull over and let them cool down. I only had 8,000 miles on the so called high performance brakes that came on the car . Thanks for the video.

    I had those brakes at one time on my first challenger they were ok and the rotors made it look better but the performance was not much better compared to stock it was just looks, I learned not to waste time on minuscule parts like that and fast forward to my R/T now being cammed and putting down 430 I knew I needed big brakes so I did the wilwood 6/4piston set up and what a major major difference even in terms of unsprung weight from 2piece rotors to actually being able to stop with no fade or shuttering. It’s costly but so worth it down the road! Plus way less brake dust! I really recommend you get rid of Those 3/1 calipers on a nearly 4000lb car they put tiny brakes in the back it’s crazy

    • @turtle6455
      @turtle6455 5 років тому

      I Got an rt and worped two sets of factory rotors in two years. I completely agree with the cars weight and itty bitty breaks being crazy af. No matter how much power you have, because of the weight, the car needs a better breaking set up than what the factory is putting on! So... You say you had these on your first Challenger. Just to be sure did you still experience rotor worpage, fading, shuttering, and all the nasties that come along with the factory turd? Because I really need an cost effective upgrade but can't afford to waste money on these if they're not much better.

    • @DJGRoc
      @DJGRoc 5 років тому +1

      @@turtle6455 To be honest, they'll probably hold up better than the factory rotors; but upgrading the calipers is what'll really give you better stopping power.

    • @hemihooning1889
      @hemihooning1889 5 років тому +2

      Turtle yeah they still would warp and shutter under hard braking or fades during high heat on the rotors and pads. They’ll probably last a tad bit longer than stock but no really gains. 6/4 pistons are really the way to go, plus the 2pice rotors are much lighter and doesn’t have shuttering or fading what’s so ever. If anything the unsprung weight has made a huge difference in handling and brakes now like the car has lost 500lbs. I wouldn’t sell myself short on those powerstops not gonna feel much difference it’s worth it going with a big brake kit on these big muscle cars 👍

    • @turtle6455
      @turtle6455 5 років тому

      Dam, bummer. Talked to someone in another comment, who swore by these z26's. And I was getting syked to get a set. My deal is, once my breaks and rotors heat up, I start getting pulsing and vibration in my break peddle. I took it to the dealer and they said my rotors were worped. I said gimme new ones at $450. Less than a year later and I've got the issue back. They work fine at lower speeds but one slow down on the highway or an exit that snuck up on me and they're shaking like a who'haw rattler until they cool down again. So, how costly are we talking here, for the wilwoods? Thanks for the replies by the way! 👍

    • @hemihooning1889
      @hemihooning1889 5 років тому +1

      Turtle not gonna lie they’re pretty expensive but so worth it since my car is modded and puts down more power than a stock rt very close to srt numbers. I paid 4K for the brakes and install, labor included. It’s definitely something worth getting as you’ll use them to slow/stop yourself everywhere you drive. They’re definitely track ready if I want to do some laps/auto cross. They definitely don’t fade like I said the unsprung weight is incredible in handling. By that I mean the wheels feel lighter and turns much better along with being able to slow down quickly. Just makes driver confidence go up and the car is more capable. Being able to accelerate fast is one thing but big brake kits are a game changer! I couldn’t sell myself short on a powerstop kit since it’s so similar to stock and the gains are minimal. I know everyone swears by the z26 they’re great on a budget but 6/4 piston set ups are amazing. Plus adds some eye candy looking at the wheels.

    If you don’t track the car you don’t need to upgrade the brakes. I’ve always put the best rotors and pads available on all my cars, but the stock rt brakes literally caused mild dizziness hard stopping from triple digits. They pull a lot of gs. Unless you’re jamming on them constantly and don’t have to worry about overheating they’re fine. I’d still put the best pads and rotors available when I change them, but no need to change calipers. Braided stainless lines never hurt. Akebono pads and some good slotted premium rotors are plenty for street driving.

    It took me less than a couple hours to replace mine and it was super easy. The only thing bad I have to say is I was “driving behind a BMW” on a mountainous road and at a point the brakes were too hot and wouldn’t stop my car. It was the most uneasy feeling I have ever had driving. I did the “break-in” just as instructed too so it wasn’t to do with that. I got some rear caliper BRACKETS off of a cop car, which allowed me to still use the my R/T caliper, (same part there, bracket is only difference). The cop rear rotors are the same diameter as SRT rear rotors, just a little thinner, but still thicker than stock RTs. This makes your rear brakes the same diameter as your fronts and when you brake, it really squats the car down, instead of nose dive. I didn't notice how bad the nose dive was until I swapped the smaller rotors back on for testing. Big difference, small $$$.

    I didn't see the guy installing the brakes clean any of the hubs or the caliper brackets. It's really a must do because you need a clean flat surface for the new parts to seat against. I use hi temp anti seize on the hubs, and synthetic brake part lubricant under and on top of the stainless pad shims. The caliper alignment bolts need silicone dielectric grease or synthetic brake lube to keep the caliper floating freely.

    "Let's not draw attention to my little baby brakes." So damn funny. I was thinking "baby brakes" the whole way through. Bro. There are ways. I just put together a BBK for my Audi project car. I found some brembo fronts off of an S8 on fb marketplace. Came with slotted rotors, Apikol adapters, and even Yellow Stuff pads for $425. There were 3 coats of crappy paint on them, but I got them stripped down, and sanded in a couple days. For the rears I'm running with drilled and slotted rotors, and calipers off an S4 for now with an eye toward going to brembo rears later. Still, my rears will be as big as my fronts are now. I got the rear calipers for fifty bucks from a part out on marketplace. Shipping was like $20. They are prepped, disassembled, and out for powder coating as this is written. I'll have $700 in the whole she-bang when I'm done including new dust boots, and seals. Took about 4 months to find everything. You can do searches on fb marketplace by entering major cities in your region as a starting point (to keep shipping costs low) and typing in the model of your car + "Brakes." stuff will pop up that other guys have put together for upgrades. It's amazing. You never know what you will find. Happy hunting...

Since this is a "Street Warrior" setup I have to conclude that the braking advantages are seen (will be seen) in normal street driving and won't require some aggressive driving to heat them up for best performance. Some people(mistakenly) buy too much brake that is stilted toward track days and don;t work well on the street.

I too wanted to go with Brembo's at first, but that would've required changing out the front spindles. Eventually I'm going to get the Baer 6-piston set for front & rear. It's about a third the cost of the Brembo's.

I've found out that you only get 4 or 5 slow downs over 80mph on the factory rotors and they're toast. Since you've upgraded too, I assume we share a similar experienced. So my question is: have your rotors ever worped and how is the upgrade holding up?

      Turtle yeah I switch to Z26 because I went through 2 sets of rotors and pads in 2 years; the Z26 is pretty awesome! Really low dust, and I’ve slame the brake 80+ and it’s still completely fine, and I do mountain drives, hard brakes around the corner, the rotor is still good; really satisfied with it. Agreed, plus you must make sure you install drilled rotors (well drilled and slotted really but drilled more importantly because of the holes just by nature of perforating the blank) DIRECTIONALLY or they WILL crack, it's just a matter of time. I know it seems like a stupid comment but you have to make SURE you know what directionally means, it has less to do with the holes and slots and EVERYTHING to do with the rotor's VENTS (it should be included in the directions). I've used drilled, slotted and drilled AND slotted rotors on multiple high HP vehicles so far and I agree with this statement regarding rust. Slotted are fine enough to get rid of rainwater and offer some cooling and those calipers are not going to squeeze those brakes hard enough to build up crazy (like warping crazy) amounts of heat. They may look cool, but drilling is really unnecessary. My SRT came new with Hellcat everything (except the supercharger) including the 2 piece Brembo rotor brake package and they're just slotted. I am so heavy on my brakes that my rotors are thin after only 5500 miles and I'm still going to go with 2 piece slotted but I have a buddy at a Dodge dealership who just happens to be the Parts Dept Manager so I'll get them cheap enough. Relatively.
      But your mechanic didn't bleed your system OR spray your rotors or pads Bro?!

    • @mrhyde0705
      @mrhyde0705 4 роки тому

      My slotted didnt care whichever directoon they went, i went with the lower portion of the slot facing forward to keep resistance down still stops on a dime, im going through my second set of pads in a year cause the damn gaskets for the guide pins collapsed under the heat and stick now xS

  • @ShovelMonkey

    How much do the new rotors mass compared to the old ones? I don't imagine it's a good idea to try to get the girl to weigh less in the brakes department. She needs them big *firm* serious rotors up front to stop a man in his tracks.
    I weigh every upgrade I do on the Barracuda as I'm doing everything I can to put her on a diet as long as it doesn't compromise performance. Going to be losing a LOT of weight when I get the entire front clip replaced with fiberglass. This modern sheetmetal is impressive. I'm amazed how little the hood on my '16 charger weighs. On the subject of hoods, I'm up in the air about how I should change it's color. The car is white, I want to go with a satin black. I'm leaning towards paint vs doing a wrap, I am skeptical of this newfangled vinyl wrapping... How is the wrap on your car holding up?

      Shouldn't really have to if the pads are quality. The vents and the cross drills are definitely more for cooling but the slots are there to help divert brake dust so it doesn't create a sandpaper on sandpaper situation. The drilled and slotted rotors are on average put on aggressively driven cars but if they are kept in good condition they actually should help extend the life of the pads.

      I can't understand how you can have your car sit there like that. Lol. I don't have another vehicle, it just the rt, so I don't have a choice but if I did, I'd ... I couldn't help myself. I throw studded snow tires on in the winter and put on the miles. Hahaha. You must have the 392 or better don't you?

    Should have painted the calipers while they were off. Just painted mine and the center caps of the rotors. Ive been eyeballing these for a break upgrade though. Takes alot to stop when your flying lol

      Cross-drilled rotors do have a higher potential for stress cracks, but these being slotted as well I think helps. Plus you'll probably never run into that problem unless you're into autocross or something.

      @@jaypatricksei8428 To go to Brembo's, you'll need to replace your front spindles with SRT ones. The cashier mounts don't line up otherwise. Baer's fit perfectly though, & cost less. Also heard that they have better stopping power than the Brembo's.

    • @meangreenrt7608
      @meangreenrt7608 5 років тому +3

      Danny Galvan - For brakes, replace them whenever you hear squeaks or you notice the braking power isn’t there. For rotors, check for cracks, warping, and bumps. They need to be flat so the pads can have the most contact surface
